Gm special policy 06020 tailgate support cable replacement. I own a vehicle in the years covered under this recall. Go Chevrolet in denver colorado refused to fix this as they stated I did not qualify. In short another dealership was willing and is going to fix the issue for free under the recall. My complaint is that go Chevrolet management and service technicians are not trained or not willing to schedule the appointment to fix a defective part as they are worried they would have to pay for it. I have also filed a complaint with the dealership. Sincerely, pat.
Tailgate cable broke. Cable was rusted.
While deer hunting in maine in Nov 06 I was taking the deer off the roof of my cap when the cables both broke and sent me flying to the ground. I was very lucky and only twisted my back a little but it hurt. When I looked at the cables they were both rusted completely. I have owned 3 blazers and their system for the tailgate was great. Never a problem. General motors should repair this for all of us S10 drivers. Right now I have parachute cord holding up my tailgate.
Tailgate cable broke on r/s and cable is ready to break on the l/s. I just purchased new ones after I was told by a parts man at faulkner Chevrolet bethlehem PA that the s-10's are not on a recall to have these cables/latches replaced. My cost for the parts was $98. 83.
Both tailgate cables for 2001 chevy S10 broke.
: the contact stated while opening the tailgate, the passenger side cable was fractured. The dealership determined the cable needed to be replaced. Updated 07/03/06.
In June 2006 I was loading a small table and chair set into the bed of my 2000 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck. I was in the bed of the truck, walked from the cab to the back and stepped onto the tailgate. I reached down to pick up a small, light-weight chair and both tailgate cables snapped letting the tailgate drop down quite unexpectedly. I jumped back to avoid injury to myself. The tailgate was slightly damaged. I'm told by my local dealership, holler Chevrolet in winter park, florida there is no recall or special bulletin issued for my truck concerning the cables. There are recalls for other models in the same and other years. If the cables on all models general motors pickup trucks are the same, I believe all models should be recalled for repair. I have an appointment at holler Chevrolet December 7, 2006 to have this repair done at a cost to me of $75. If or when there is a recall, I believe I should be reimbursed this amount of money.
(1) factory installed non stainless steel tailgate cables. (2) tailgate cables rusted into and snapped causing tailgate to suddenly drop. (3) nothing has been done yet to correct the problem.
Had 2 large (5 gal) paint cans setting on tailgate (which was down). Walked into bed and picked up another item. When stepping on the tailgate the cables supporting the tailgate snapped and I was thrown to the ground.

While unloading pieces of a cast iron tub, as I slid the tub onto the tail gate of my 2000 S10, one of the tail gate cables failed. The tail gate moved slightly but the other cable was able to take up the rest of the weight. The cable appeared to be very rusty inside. This appears to be similar to an issue remedied on the larger trucks but not dealt with on the smaller size trucks. (the day listed below is an estimate. ).

Tailgate cable corroded and broke.
I stepped up onto the tailgate of my 2000 Chevrolet s-10 zr2 and both cables snapped in the middle. I only weigh 150 lbs and they should have not snapped like they did. When I looked at the broken cables, I found that they were rusted on the inside and that is what caused them to fail. Luckily the tailgate was not damaged when it broke when it hit the bumper.
The tailgate supports (cables going from the truck bed to the tailgate) got pinched between the bed and tailgate causing them to corrode and eventually break when weight is put on them. One of these cables broke while an 80 pound boy was sitting on the tail gate. The cables have not been replaced and are available.
Tailgate cables on 2000 Chevrolet S10 broke the tailgate dropped down causing two people to fall off. Called Chevrolet dealer and was told there is no recall on the cables for the S10 and would cost $40. 00 plus to replace them. We have the broken cables.
In normal use, one of my 2000 s 10 tailgate support cables broke in two. A recall was implemented for 1/2 ton trucks with the same galvanized wire cables that these s 10's have. After inspection of the unit I determined that the cable was rotted. This just happened so I have not corrected the problem.

Manufacturer told caller to keep receipts. Caller felt manufacturer should tell public of problems so they can be more informed.
The right side tailgate cable on my truck broke while loading a wood log. Thankfully the other cable did not break or the log would have fallen on my leg causing injury. I have inspected the left cable and it has signs of corrosion under the plastic covering as well. I have a 1983 S10 p/u that uses steel bars that have a pivot point so they can hinge when you close the tailgate. I have never had this problem with that design, and they still work properly. I have heard about the recalls for the full size trucks for this very same problem. It looks like it needs to be extended to the S10 family as well.
The tailgate straps are broken.
T: the contact stated both tail gate cables snapped while unloading items from the vehicle. There has been a recall for a full size truck, but not for the s-10 pickup truck. Consumer did not have the recall number. The service dealer did not state why the cables snapped. But the vehicle was not under the recall and was no longer under the warranty. Consumer replaced both cables and the bolt. The bolts kept coming out because consumer did not replace the components correctly.

Tailgate cable broke.
1. I was unloading my aluminum canoe from my Chevrolet S10 pick up truck, and tailgate cables broke, lots of rust and corrosion on the cables, causing the tailgate to suddenly drop 6 to 10 inches on the back bumper, causing me to lose balance. I fell off the tailgate and fell onto the canoe , bumping my head and hurting my chest and shoulder. I went to GMC dealership in rochester, indiana 46975, and was told they had no recall on these items, and I could order them for replacement.
2000 Chevrolet s-10 zr2 4x4. Cables on tailgate rotted and broke while loading a tv into vehicle. For some reason this is not included in Chevrolets recall for tailgate cables.
I have a 2000 s-10 pickup that I purchased new in October 2000. Both of the tailgate support cables have rusted and broken in half. The first one broke as I was stepping down from the bed. But luckily, the other held at that time and no injuries happened. But the second one soon broke.
Tailgate was down, and was pulling container of dirt out of bed of truck. When the weight of the container snapped the tailgate cables on both sides of our 2000 Chevrolet S10, caused damage to the tailgate and spilling container.
I own a 2000 chev s-10 zr2 truck. My complaint is reguarding the tail gate cables. I have a 110lb rottwieller who was standing in in box of the truck with his front feet on the tail gate when the cables broke. The dog came out ok, the tail gate was damaged. When I checked with gm canada I was told the recall was only for the full size trucks and to date there were no other cases of these cables breaking on s-10 or sonoma trucks. I hate being lied to. . . I have found hundreds maybe thousands of complaints on various forums. Please don't let up on gm. To replace these parts I'm looking at $170. Plus labour. Thanks to gm engineering the whole assembly must be purchased, not just the cables.
