Fuel Pump problems of the 2001 Chevrolet S10

Five problems related to fuel pump have been reported for the 2001 Chevrolet S10. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2006

My fuel pump went out without warning. The high cost was unexpected. After making comments to several people, I have found out that about 50% of the people that I have talked to had the same problem throughout the entire gm line.

2 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2006

I have an 2001 s-10 extended cab 4x4 truck. I have had to have this truck towed 4 times & 4 or 5 fuel pumps put in also a wire that goes to fuel pump & a new gas cap also. I bought this truck in June of 06 & drove it 3 days before the first break down. It was down for 2 months. The place of purchase led me to believe that the truck was in perfect condition with no problems or any wrecks. When the truck was towed to a chevy dealership for repair it cost over 500$ just in labor alone not to mention the cost of the fuel pumps & full diagnostics. I am still having problems with the gas tank. When I fill the truck up it runs out the top of the tank itself under the bed of my truck . Isn't this a danger to my safety ? the chevy dealership doesn't want to stand by their work now so I'm stuck with a deadly vehicle. I plan to file any complaint I can & if possible I will get it on the news as well. Within a few hours of my buying this junk the auto dealer where I bought it sold my contract to a finance company so now the dealer is not responsible for the things that were & are bad. The truck bed only had 1 bolt holding the whole bed on & the gas tank only had 1 strap on 1 side holding the gas tank up. . . The finance company won't help with this problem either. I have been researching this type of truck & have found that way to many people have the same problems as I do when it comes to the gas tank & fuel pump. Shouldn't someone be held liable for this problem ? would the makers of the s-10 truck allow their kids or family to ride in a truck that could possibly one day cause their death ? when a gas tank leaks fuel from the tank under the truck what would happen if at a stop light someone throws a cigarette out & it hits the gas that's leaked out ? my opinion the truck would blow up. If there is anyone who can tell me where to complain I'd be ever so grateful for that info. Cathy in ky.

3 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2006

Filled my s-10 truck up with gas in the evening and the next morning the fuel pump failed. This is the second vehicle that this has happened. The first one was my 1997 chevorlet lumina.

4 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2003

There are 40,000 miles on my 2001 s-10 and the fuel pump went out. I filled the tank full of gas and 8 miles down the road , the fuel pump went out. I had the vehicle towed to a Chevrolet dealer and it cost over $900. 00 to replace the pump. $500. 00 for the pump, $60 for the diagnostic, 400. 00 for the labor. This is unacceptable! .

5 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2003

My 2001 s-10 pick up stalls when driving down the road. Acts similar to investigation pe02-066. Took vehicle to dealer and explained problem. They could not find anything wrong. I still have the problem. Truck was out of warranty when taken in had 44,106 miles. Shouldn't the dealer been aware of your investigation and possibly looked at this filter?. I think you should reopen this case, I think that there is a severe defect in their design. Tomorrow I am going to dealer armed with information from your website and I am going to put up a stink about this. Please take another look at this case. Thank you. Sincerely, robert a. Wright.
