One problem related to steering pinion shaft has been reported for the 2001 Chevrolet S10. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving 30 mph heard a loud popping noise when steering wheel was turned in either direction. The steering wheel became inoperative. However, consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and drove it to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the steering shaft needed to be replaced.
