20 problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
1999 Chevrolet Silverado, VIN#2gcec19t7x1160147 transmission serviced at 72,000 miles. At 82,000 miles internal failure of transmissions reverse failed completely. Complete replacement of transmission made.
Consumer states that the overdrive and reverse gears completely went out. Had vehicle towed. They repaired the transmission at that time. The same thing occurred again, but it caused more damage. Consumer was going to have the transmission replaced.
While driving 70 mph vehicle stalled. Consumer restarted the vehicle, and towed it home. Driver will contact the dealer in the near future.
1999 Chevrolet Silverado shudders at take off between 1st and 2nd gearonly after driven 15 to 20 miles.
My truck has 68000 miles on it and I am now on my third transmission. I have the 1999 lt model with the 4 speed auto. One failure was while on vacation trans failed while stuck in traffic. It would not hold pressure. Next failure was only 4 months later lost reverse and 1st gear completly car had to be towed again. Now 3rd trans is not shifting correctly something is not right in these transmissions.
Chevrolet siverado extended cab, 1999 ;abs system failed in June 2003! (transmission broke in summer 2002. Couldn't back-up anymore!).
Good morning, I own a 1999 Silverado, long bed, with an automatic transmission and I am having a few problems, any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. . . First the abs motor continues to run after the engine has been shut off, I had to disconnect the abs fuse so the battery will not get drained. Second the automatic transmission is shifting hard from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd, I am forced to shut the engine off for a couple of minutes and when I restart the engine the problem disappear, I have read your safety bulletins and gm is aware of these problems. My truck looks and acts practically like new except for the intermittent transmission problems and the abs. I had babied my truck since I bought it, and I have owned gm products all my life and I don't think is fair for me to spend thousands of dollars for gm's manufacturing problems. . . Please advice. . . Thanks. . . !!!.
I own two (2) Chevrolet Silverados 4x4's - both have the same issue. Everyday the service 4x4 light comes on. I have taken both trucks to dealerships and they state that the computer is not indicating that light coming on so just ignore it. Just a computer glitch. Other transmission problems is loud clanking when placed in any gear from park.
I have had problems with my transmission intermittently slipping when starting to accelrate from a stopped position. This occurs on an infrequest basis and has been happening since I bought the truck. Gm has replaced the transmission and the problem still happens. I went back to the dealer who refused to do anything because they could not reproduce the problem. I then contacted gm's corporate office and I was asked to bring my truck in again for them to replace the kickdown cable. The problem still persists today.
Vehicle will not go into drive after it sits for a while. Vehicle will start up, but once it goes in drive engine will rev, but no movement. Problem seems to be intermittent. Dealer couldn't find anything wrong with vehicle. Consumer is considering getting a second opinion. When hitting bumps and applying the brakes, there is a noise. Accelerator pedal sticks, dealer replaced the throtle body. Plastic bezel at tailgate handle came off, delaer reinstalled.
5 service calls on transmission / replaced twice & still venting fluid.
When placed in 4wd mode the truck makes a groaning/moaning noise at approx 9 mph on. If the steering wheel is turned the truck jerks and shudders. This happens on dry pavement and sheet ice, we drive on both a lot up here in alaska. I have a lot of prior experience with 4x4 vehicles and this is abnormal to the point of being dangerous. I have taken it in to the dealer and they have contacted GMC. The service mgr told me that he had talked with a "bob" at "tan" and got no assistance, but was told that this was normal for all 4x4 trucks. The dealer agrees with me that this is not normal and they told me that mine is the third truck in the last few weeks to have this problem, all with no help from GMC. The dealers solution is to not use 4wd unless absolutely vital. But 4wd is absolutely vital driving on the roads here in alaska most all winter, and part of spring. The erratic control feel is very bothersome and I believe a serious safety issue!.
Reprogramed pcmwith update. Overdrive comes in at 51mph. Fuel milage down to 12mpg. This is just a quick fix by chevy.
Vibrations have occurred since the day of purchase. Have not been corrected in 3 attempts at dealership. I requested from the Chevrolet customer assistance that the regional service manager be involved in repair of my vehicle, Chevrolet denied this service.
On 3 occasions, once around 1200 miles and twice at around 5500 miles, went to accelerate from a standstill, and the truck did not move. Engine revved, then slammed into gear, and then truck was able to move. No specific pattern to this, just random. Dealer "cannot duplicate the problem".
Front ends shakes at 64mph/vibration in rear when you take off. Air sound when you press brakes. Jerks when you get to about 10mph. Been in shop 4 times with no repairs made at all.
A piece of metal fell out of steering column. Also, front end needed alignment due to drifting/pulling right/ 4-wd light keeps coming on. When shifting into gear, rear end would pop, and abs brakes went out when applied. When vehicle is turned off it would still be running. Would restart it and it turned off.
Transmission is shifting hard when shifting from first to second gear while driving in low speed. Dealer can't determine the problem.
Drive train vibration problem is getting worse.
Abs module continues to run, abs & brake light on in dash. Many others like this. Chevy has started installing a different unit, but has not recalled the older units that have failed.
