3 Driveshaft problem

Failure Date: 11/18/1999

After having in shop for 6 dys having the driveshaft replaced, 3 dys later, grinding and whining in rear end, differential bad(4th problem in 2. 5 months with this truck!).

4 Driveshaft problem

Failure Date: 11/10/1999

Have taken vehicle to dealer 4 times and each time they say nothing is wrong. Consistently called general motors with no response. When driving vehicle must keep hands in 10-10:30 position to keep vehicle straight. Unable at this time to rotate tires thus causing more uneven wearing. One dealer told me this was just normal for cherolet. This is the second z71 in our family and my son had worse problems than mine. At present rate I will be lucky to get 40,000 miles out of tires. Firestone inspected (visual only) and said wear was normal, however you can see splits and cuts in treads already. ( dot number: w278wma458 tire size: p265/75r16 ).

5 Driveshaft problem

Failure Date: 11/09/1999

Driving on highway and drive shaft fell off. No warning of problem. Bolts remained in and the shaft just fell out. Tow truck driver said never seen anything like this. 3000 miles on vehicle, bought Aug, 23 1999. Also, had vibration and noise from wind shield, had in shop twice for repair, ended up having to reseal the wind shield, dealer had done 3 simular trucks for the same thing.

6 Driveshaft problem

Failure Date: 06/17/1999

While driving a t45mph a lot of vibrations occurs on passenger's side. The side view mirror would shake. Had vehicle in shop 9 days to correct problem. The tires & rims where checked, balanced & replaced. The driveshaft was also replaced. The problem has since returned.

7 Driveshaft problem

Failure Date: 03/07/1999

I took delivery of vehicle on 3-1-99. Noticed front end vibration at 65 mph. Took vehicle back to dealer. I was told it was a goodyear tire problem. They replaced all tires. Problem remained as well as feeling a shaking in the steering on rough or bumpy roads. Took vehicle back to dealer. I was told that it was a drive shaft problem. Shims were placed in the driveshaft. Problem then became much worse. Vibration shook entire vehicle making steering difficult. Took vehicle back to dealer. Shims were removed. Gm knows about multiple problems and their only reply was "in 70 days we might have a fix". In 70 days the driveshaft might come up through the floor of my truck, too. Please look into these problems before someone is killed. Gm sure doesn't care! I have consulted three dealership service departments - two Chevrolet and one GMC. They all admitted to having at least 6 or 7 trucks with these problems. Multiply that by the number of Chevrolet and GMC dealerships in this country and you will see the magnitude of these problems. None of us can take on gm. Please help us. I might suggest that if gm can correct the problems, that they offer a free extended warrantee to all who were affected by these problems.

8 Driveshaft problem

Drivetrain binds up, and will also shake and growl when driving at speeds of 35-55 mph.
