Two problems related to diesel engine have been reported for the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Engine knocked very badly at cold or hot start ups, it sounded like a diesel engine. Knocking lasted for 3 to 4 minutes. Dealer stated there was nothing wrong with the engine . 2000 Chevrolet Silverado experiencing problems with engine knocking during start ups. Engine knocking last for 3 to 30 seconds. Consumer took vehicle to dealer and no problem was found with the engine.
When accelerating about 1700 rpm engine will sound like a diesel engine when it is a gasoline engine. Dealer stated that noise was coming from balance shaft.
