1 Driveshaft problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2006

: the contact stated the accelerator pedal sticks intermittently at no particular speed. The vehicle was taken to the local dealership twice for repairs. However, they did not remedy the problem. Also, there was a problem with the power steering pump. The steering pump fractured which resulted in immediate loss of hydraulic power assist. The hydro-boost power braking was increased after the braking assist was depleted. There is a NHTSA recall, # 05v005000, regarding the power steering pump. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however it is not included in the recall due to the VIN. The vehicle was taken to the dealership for repairs.

2 Driveshaft problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2003

I own a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 2wd lt with towing package. The truck has never towed a vehicle and currently has only 41,835 miles. On December 29, 2003, I was driving home from work when the automatic transmission failed. I really never heard of a transmission failing at 41,000 miles. The truck has the towing package and is heavy duty on the transmission. I never towed a car with this truck or carried less than 500 lbs in the bed. I feel that this problem should be reviewed because I could have been towing a vehicle and going up an incline. I feel that this is serious safety hazard to other drivers on the road. This is not a one time problem, because I have other friends with Silverados that are replacing their transmissions less than 50,000 miles. A transmission by design should last at least 100,000 miles. I have contacted gm about this problem and they say that there is no service bulletins or recall. My incident is isolated and gm is only wiling to replace 50% of the cost. The dealership that I took the truck to had 3 other people with similar problems. I have another local friend with the same problem. . Read more...

At 12000 miles both rear rotors had to be replaced, 2000 miles later both front rotors had to be replaced. A clunking sound was heard in the rear of the vehicle. The consumer believes it either the rear suspension or drive shaft. All four of the vehicle's wheels had to be replaced at 6000 miles because they were rusting. 5 Driveshaft problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2001

Clanking noise in driveline and had it to dealer couple of times. They put grease on the driveshaft yoke and took care of problem for a month or so and no it is doing it again and was told by dealer there is a new yoke that is nickel plated. Of course it cost almost $200. 00 and truck is out of warranty. So now I am stuck paying for the repair.

6 Driveshaft problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2001

When taking off from a stopped position and coming to a stop there is a deep squeeking sound coming somewhere between the driveshaft and transmission. I was told by chevy garage there was a fix for the extended cab version but not my regular cab truck. It will eventually take money to fix because anything that squeeks is rubbing and will eventually wear out. It was a problem when I reached 15,000 miles and is still a problem and loud aggrevation at 61000 miles. It is even bad enough that when I come to a redlight or a stop sign people think I am beeping my horn at them. It has been four years and 46000 miles later and there is no fix for the vehicle to my knowledge. Plus the tires didnt last 40000 miles the brake line had to be repaired the steering linkage is bad and when I had a cracked window replaced the person showed me that there was no seal placed around the window to keep it from leaking. So long chevy hello Ford.

8 Driveshaft problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2000

Well first off 1: vibrations at speeds of 40+ the front end feels like it going to fall apart the sterring wheel shakes violently when slowing as the the vibrating is going on, you have to come to a complete stop and put it park and then proceed and it might go away, it's like the driveline or shaft gets out of balance, and the brake barley work its like they are fighting against you putting pressure on them. #2: when you hit a bump with brakes applied the peddal starts pumping back and forth and you can barely stop. #3: front left suspension squeaks and rattles when making a right or left turn its like your shifting the weight and something is looose. #4: transmission clunks when putting into gear from park or into reverse almost as if a u-joint was bad but noise comes from tranny and driveshaft. And when coming to a stop you can feel the tranny down shifting like its just dropping out of gear the whole truck rocks. Well chevy need to do something before someone dies,, after reading the previous complaints I thought I just had a lemon but I see I'm not alone I took the trk to the dealer for the vibration and was told no problem existed but the vibration went away for awhile do they know something and just are told be quiet. Help me I should have got Ford.

9 Driveshaft problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2000

When driving between 40-50 mph vehicle vibrates. Can be felt through steering wheel/ gas pedal and seat. Consumer thinks it may be drivetrain related. To dealer 4 times, no remedy. Dealer balanced tires, replaced driveshaft and adjusted suspension.

10 Driveshaft problem

Popping noise and slack in front drive train - dealer cannot find problem after repeated attempts. Finally found noise problem around dash - windshield is not glued in and could come out at any time - very dissatisfied with purchase. Dealership refuses to try and locate popping noise any further as they have been unable to locate the problem.

11 Driveshaft problem

Ltr fm audrey wissinger (PA) concerned about the problems she experienced with her 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Both front/rear rotors had to be replaced. The old brake linings were replaced with new ones. The rotors were literally falling apart-inferior metal. Dealer stated this was the result of the vehicle not being driven enough. There was a terrible "kluncking" sound in the rear end or drive shaft. This happened in a downshift or upshift. The dealer stated it was normal play in the drivetrain. All four wheels had to be replaced at 6000 miles because they were rusted. Tailgate strap broke at 17000 miles. When the 4-wheel drive was engaged, it made a terrible growling that didn't seem normal.
