Power Train Driveline problems of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado

Four problems related to power train driveline have been reported for the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Power Train Driveline problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2004

Drivetrain "clunk or thunk" as the dealer called it. I have a 2000 chevy Silverado z71 4x4 truck. I noticed the clunking about 2 weeks after owning the truck. The dealer replaced the yoke but the problem still persisted. The tech acknowledged the problem but said it was normal for a 4-wheel drive. That is wrong, I have talked to many people that have 4x4 trucks and they do not have this sound when stopping and starting. I have talked with people that own 1999-2001 chevy's and most of them have this clunking. My motor also knocks when it is started. The dealer tech said as long as the knock stops in a given time, that is also normal. In cold weather it knocks right up to the time limit, so nothing can be done about it. If you try to drive it shortly after this time, the condition is worse. Again, the tech said that is normal. This is the same on the 1999-2001 trucks. This is outrageous for a $30,000 vehicle to have these types of problems. I am afraid there will be failures after the warranty period is up. There is a bulletin from Chevrolet that says these things are normal so I am assuming any chevy dealer will say the same thing.

2 Power Train Driveline problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2001

We've had this drivetrain vibration almost since the truck was purchased. Gm service dept. Has replaced 1 tire because they couldn't balace it. All the other tires have been rebalanced, all 5 tires have been rotated. The truck had the rear end parts replaced due to some type of failure. We've had the truck to gm's service dept. Several times for the vibration problems. We went through the bbb to have gm buy back which we lost. Gm refuses to do any more vibration related work on this truck. The truck also has the firestone steeltex a/t lt 245/75 r 16 tires, and I've asked our local gm service dept. If these tires are on the recall list, which they don't have an answer for. Sooner or later there is going to be vibration related parts failure and hopefully not at hwy speeds. Our truck is not the only truck with these problems. Gm has these problems with the '99,2000 and 2001 truck lines which they won't/can't fix. Please help us us and all the other people with the $30,000 lemons. Thank you.

3 Power Train Driveline problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2000

Driveline - transmision or driveshaft or rear end has exteame slack. Vehicle hesitates when taking of in forward or reverse causing the vehicle surge (or jump forward or backward)creating a situation that is unsafe, seriously imacts the driveablity and dramatically reduces the value of the vehicle. When the vehicle is "cold" this problem does not "show as bad as it does after the vehicle is driven for 30 minutes or so. The dealers service department (ron hue mgr. ) will not acknoledge the problem although the dealers sales manager (jeff sauer, sales mgr. ) did drive the vehicle and has acknoledged that the problem exists. This problem is one that is at it's worst when trying to park or menuver in tight spaces. A $32,000 truck should not do this and the manufacturer should do whatever it takes to fix the problem! after numerous trips to the dealer and countless phone calls - nothing has been done!! please help!!.

4 Power Train Driveline problem

Owner took truck to have suspension lifted. In doing so, mechanic placed faulty rear shock mounts on truck, which broke while driving. After repairs were done on shocks, driveline started vibrating. Mechanic did a partial repair of driveline, not resolving failure completely. Please describe details.
