Two problems related to engine failure have been reported for the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Engine knocks very badly at cold or hot start up. Knocking lasts for minutes. Chevrolet says they know about problem. States that the piston skirts are too short causing piston wobble. They also start they can't fix at this time. Engine sounds like a diesel at start up noise is so bad. I am nervous to take truck out of town for fear of engine failure.
5. 3l engine developed a knock at approx 17000 miles. Complaint made to gm dealership, they acknowledged the issue and stated that "gm is aware of problem and working on a fix". Gm now claims it is normal engine noise and no fix required. If it's normal why don't all the 5. 3's do it ? gm has issued me an "extended component warranty" for the engine only for an additional 2 years and 64k miles after expiration of factory 3/36. If they won't fix under warranty now what good is and extended warranty?? gm needs to resolve this engine problem now before customers start seeing engine failures and abnormal oil usage because of it. Nhtsa, as well as state attorney generals offices needs to make gm resolve this issue of consumer fraud for not honoring the warranty and to resolve the issue.
