Engine Failure problems of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado

Two problems related to engine failure have been reported for the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

Fax fwd ltr fm (mo) re 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck uncontrolled engine failure, constituent's vehicle VIN was not included in recall notice but consumer experienced similar recall issues, reply to kansas city, mo ofc. The consumer stated in the summer of 2008 while driving, the vehicle suddenly stalled. He was able to get the vehicle to the side of the road and eventually it started again. There were no more problems until April 2009. The consumer was driving home from work, when suddenly the vehicle stalled again. Finally, a minute later the vehicle started again. The consumer took the vehicle to aamoco and upon diagnosis, the consumer was instructed to take the vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer, because a code displayed, which directed them to a safety recall. The recall was in reference to a crankshaft position sensor that could intermittently, or fail completely. The consumer went to the dealer and explained the situation. The dealer did in fact agree the problem was a defective crankshaft position sensor, but Chevrolet refused to pay for the repairs, because his VIN was not included in the recall. Updated 10/06/10.

2 Engine Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2004

The consumer stated the engine failed while driving through an intersection. As a result, the steering failed as well. Please provide additional information.
