Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problems of the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado

Two problems related to automatic transmission gear indicator have been reported for the 2002 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2005

: the contact stated after exiting the vehicle with the engine running and the shifter in the park position, the vehicle began to roll down the driveway. The contact was able to get in the vehicle and stop it. The dealership determined the vehicle was in drive, although the gear position indicated park. The dealership replaced the cable. Updated 2/21/2006 - the shift cable broke causing the vehicle to roll away while a child was still seated in the rear of the vehicle.

2 Automatic Transmission Gear Indicator problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2002

Gearshift linkage loosened preventing transmission to go into park.
