Four problems related to exterior rearview mirror have been reported for the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Problems with bugs and debris deflected right into the consumer's face while driving. The left and right door rear view mirrors cause bugs and other debris to be deflected right into the face of whoever is sitting in the driver and passenger seat. The has occurred many times. The consumer has had everything from bug to gravel hit him in the face. The consumer feels the mirrors need to be redesigned.
I purchased a 2004 Chevrolet 2500hd Silverado duramax in Feb 2004. The exterior mirrors have been vibrating since I have owned it. The dealership has replaced the mirrors once, which did not resolve the issue. They now state that it is a characteristic of the vehicle. I feel this is a safety issue that gm needs to look into instead of ignoring and stating as a characteritic of the vehicle.
The rear view mirrors that were special ordered for the vehicle did not extend far enough to allow for proper vision when towing a eight foot wide trailer. The dealer and the manufacturer informed and they explained that they could not offer a free remedy. Updated 12/7/2005.
The exterior side mirrors on both sides are made of plastic. When the mirrors are wiped scratches appear. Once they are scratched mirrors become useless. Also, consumer complained that the windshield wiper blades don't stay on when the windshield is washed manually.
