One problem related to engine head gasket failure has been reported for the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The low coolant light went on. The only way to fill the system is to open the reservoir cap. Unfortunately because the engine had a head gasket failure the cooling system would not depressurize, even when cold. It seems to me that there should be a pressure cap that when the engine overheats it allows the cooling system to depressurize. This closed system is very dangerous especially when someone who is used to filling the overflow tank when the coolant is low. Because the lack of an over flow tank anyone that opens the plastic reservoir could became burned.
