Two problems related to radiator have been reported for the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Had to add coolant over a time. . . . . No evidence of a leak on my driveway or any other place. Started truck one morning and heard clicking noise coming from engine. I observed water coming from the muffler. Tooked vehicle to dealer on April 22, 2014. ( mileage 84241) dealer found blown head gasket and seals, 0ne cracked head and water in oil. Repairs done: complete valve job (replace head gasket, seals & other associated parts), replace broken bolts, replace coolant hoses, radiator & heater hoses and thermostat etc. . Was not advised by service consultant of any recalls or bulletins for 2005 Silverado. This is low mileage for this kind of engine problem. Repair cost: $3683. 92 martin Chevrolet *** torrance, calif.
Truck has 11000 miles, been in the shop 5 times for over heating while towing. Gm technician line has a case # on file, and told the technician who relayed the information to myself that they were aware of the problem but at this time have no fix. I call bs because the 06 models have revised cooling systems and a larger turbo charger. My belief is the fix is to much $$ and they will only take care of the few people that tow and have issues. I have notice a lot of information on the net about 04. 5 and 05 lly duramax truck that tow over 10000 have this issue. The major down side is the trucks inability to maintain the speed limit due to the 234* plus water temperature and the power loss formed a cooling fan that runs no stop when towing. I have made the same pull with my 2001 Chevrolet duramax truck and have not had issues with impeding traffic flow.
