Six problems related to steering have been reported for the 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Doors continuously locking/unlocking, all dash lights continuously turning on/off, clock reset itself to 12:00, engine cutting in/out which also resulted in the loss of power steering and power brakes, all of which occurred while at freeway speed. I purchased the vehicle approximately a year and a half ago from a Chevrolet dealer in sacramento, CA. Since I've owned the vehicle there have been multiple occurrences of the clock resetting itself to 12:00, complete power loss when attempting to start the vehicle.
A few days before the incident my left front brakes were making a slight squealing sound when going straight. In a turn or when the brake was applied it would go away. Very minor. Then when traveling on the interstate at 55 mph I got a severe shutter in the steering wheel and the left wheel was shaking like crazy. I hit the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. After I downshifted I got it stopped on a hill. Had it towed home. The left wheel bearing had melted!! the wheel was literally hanging on as the driveshart u joint came apart. The front half of the driveshaft was bent and the brakes were shot. Turns out the (sealed) hub was rusted so bad it froze up. Then it fell apart on the road. Luckily I got it stopped with wrecking. Chevy wanted over $2200 to fix it. I did it myself for $330 from napa after watching youtube on how to do it. It was easy as pie!.
Hydroboost lines leaking/seeping lower transmission line leaking.
2007 z71 Chevrolet had to have the steering repaired. Cost $350. 00.
Driving down road and thought driver side tire had blown . Was able to stop on the side of the road around a bend but not control the truck . Got out and the front driver side tire ,rim and brake rotor were ripped away from the hub.
The contact owns 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. While driving 25 mph, the steering wheel broke while making a left turn. As a result, he crashed into an embankment. The dealer stated that bad modification mold caused the failure. The contact stated that the failure occurred a second time and the dealer stated that the steering wheel was designed that way. The failure mileage was 57,800 and current mileage was 58,800.
