4 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2021

# 1 is the 4l60e transmission that sits on the exhaust and runs next to it on the opposite side the heat from the trans itself and the exhaust overheat the gasket which causes weak spots that leak along with burning up the 3-4 clutch. Lost everything but 1&2,r,n on trip to illinois on way back went to speed up to pass and all sudden the engine started tacking out and leaking fluid. I applied fluid all the way home at a speed of 45mph in a 70 mph limit which caused a major safety hazard with traffic. Took to trans shop said the 3-4 clutch was fried and was no good due to overheating and loss fluid from damaged gasket that's split on the stamps from ac delco. 2nd issue arises out 1rst, even more dangerous to point of dragging me down drive way and cutting into my leg leaving a small scar. When wheels are chalked , e brake applied the vehical should not move, so after doing so I climbed under and unhooked the shift cable from the trans instantly with dog in truck it began rolling right over me I grabbed the frame and stopped it for a few sec then boom it went again I had spin around or my legs or head would've be smashed to oblivion. At that point it just kept going as it cut into my leg, I let it roll over me hopped up and tried trow it in park yet no cable attached it wouldn't stop and just kept going till it hit a small ditch at end my drive and half way in the road. My leg was cut and I was scratched up in many spots yet dog was ok. The trans quitting lead to the unhooking of the cable then the e/p brake not holding due to worn brake shins in the rear which have calipers so if the calpier would've held with the brake it'd been fine but under everything is a set small and thin pads that hold the truck when brake applied. There was a recall (#05042). Yet my VIN was not included, chevy was called yet denied any responsibility of either matter or action to cure it. These defects could've killed me, decapitated, or killed my service dog!.

5 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2021

Vehicle was being driven when "service brake system" appeared in the dic. Vehicle was safely returned to owners home where it was discovered a master cylinder failure had occurred. The master cylinder contained no brake fluid, the booster was covered in brake fluid, and fluid was dripping from the undercarriage to the ground. The master cylinder and booster were replaced. In the process of bleeding the brake lines, a secondary leak was discovered in the brake line to the left front caliper. An inspection revealed a failure of the brake line due to rust. Inspection of the other brake lines revealed rust which will require replacement of all the brake lines. In this instance, the vehicle was actively being repaired when the failure of the brake line occurred. Had the brake line not failed during the repair process of the master cylinder and booster, a failure would have occurred while the vehicle was being operated possibly resulting in a crash with injury or death to the occupants or other drivers.

6 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2020

When you apply the parking break through a foot pedal on this year of truck and then pull the handle to release it the parking break will only come back a little until you have to manually reach down to the floor and pull the parking break foot petal back up to operational height where the parking break (emergency break) is no longer applied. This has happened multiple times and the cable is still connected and will only bring the parking break back up around a inch until you have to pull it the rest of the way back.

12 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2015

I was leaving the house with my boat hooked up and got on the highway, we had gone for a half mile and the brakes went to the floor and found out the line was rusted. Then the second time it happened again and I was told that most of the lines were badly rusted and had to replace them all. It is a shame that the lines are faulty and could kill many others this is a serious problem in any vehicle-don't you think so!.

13 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2015

When applying brakes to avoid another vehicle, the brake pedal went to the floor and there was little breaking effort available. Avoided a severe accident by swerving into the opposite lane nearly colliding with another oncoming vehicle. Slowed vehicle with emergency brake and transmission downshifting. Cause was ruptured break line due to corrosion. All lines are severely corroded.

14 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

Was driving down busy highway when I went to slow down to stop at upcoming traffic stop light. Put foot on brakes and went to floor, no brakes, no warning. I was in a heavily congested traffic area and in the middle of a 4-way intersection that was getting ready to go down a hill, was able to turn up a street that was a hill and had to hit the emergency brake to get stopped. Had to have the truck towed. This could of been a deadly catastrophe considering the nature of failed equipment in the middle of this very heavily congested intersection. I have had several problems with this vehicle since I have purchased it on 04/25/2014. Have had to take it back to the dealership several times for repairs. It seems the problems never stop.

15 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2014

Driver side rear break line rusted through and ruptured during operation causeing loss of breaks and run stop sign was able to stop vehical with e break.

16 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2014

I was driving my vehicle and was attempting to come to a stop to turn into a parking lot when my lines blew. I went to repress the break pedal to find no pressure. I went to rely on my emergency break when that also failed after 3 presses. Now I am being quoted $1,500. 00 for a repair that I shouldn't have to make do to faulty material.

17 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

The brakes have stopped working on this vehicle, which is not particularly unexpected given the vehicle has 155,000 miles. However when we tried to purchase new parts we were advised that general motors no longer supports or manufactures the necessary parts ( rotors, pumps, etc) for the year of vehicle. How can they simply stop making parts for a vehicle that is just 10 years old? we were told to go to a scrap yard and see if we could scrounge the necessary parts there ! should they not be required to support any vehicle they manufacture? and not simply decide not to make parts any longer because it may not be profitable? what is going on at gm? what else don't we know about their business practices on top of the other gm scandals that we see lately, leading to death and mayhem for innocent car owners?.

18 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2013

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the instrument panel malfunctioned and all of the gauges provided inaccurate readings. In addition, the anti-lock system would engage independently and without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the anti- lock braking system needed to be cleaned and the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 42,000 and the current mileage was 44,800. Updated 3/28/cn.

19 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2013

Transmission will not shift out of 1st gear. Took to shop had been told speed solenoid, replaced both, flushed tranny & changed oil. Only to find out that need a new transmission. This truck has been nothing but trouble from the minute we took the plastic of the seats. Brakes, bearings fuel lines, springs water pump etc you name it have receipts for all of it. Under warranty & after. This truck is a lemon. GMC will do nothing, dealer just puts head down & walks away because he knows major issues in the first 90 days of owning & continues to this day. This pickup has never left the blacktop. No offroading, not hunting or anything else, no vacations in fear of being stranded. Junk junk junk & now I get to try to figure out what to do when christmas is 10 days away. I don't think my children want a new chevy vehicle ever.

20 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2013

I had to stop to wait for a vehicle making a left turn and as I applied the brakes they at first worked and then the pedal went to the floor and I had to go off the road over a small ban into a ditch. If safety is such an issue why are the car manufacturers not made to put the best quality brake and gas lines in their vehicles as there are better lines available than what they put in such as stainless.

21 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2013

I was driving pulling a trailer when a vehicle pulled out in front of me I applied the brakes and they immediately went to the floor with no stopping or slowing down. I geared the transmission down while swerving to miss the vehicle.

22 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2013

I was moving my truck into the driveway and went to push the break down and it went all th way to the floor. The break lines are rusted and one sprang a leak. Luckely I wasn't going real fast. I took it to the shop and just to replace the back break lines cost $800. The service guy told me if I wanted to replace the front break lines they would have to remove the front clip and take the cab off the frame for a total cost off $2,300. 00.

23 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2011

2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4 wheel drive. Abs system activates when coming to a normal stop at about 5 miles per hour. This causes the brake pedal to push back your foot back and the brakes to release slighty. It happens intermittently and you never know when to expect it. No accidents yet, but I can see where this could cause many. There are also numerous complaints on the internet where other drivers of like gm owners are experiencing similar problems.

24 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2010

I have a 2004 chevy silverado I have to plan my stop or I will crash I have had to swerve in on going traffic to keep from hitting people my truck has extremely poor stopping is there a recall [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

25 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2009

Abs activation upon low speed stop on dry pavement.

26 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2009

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 with 58,283 miles on it. I took it to the dealer for state inspection and found that the rotors are all rusted and have to be replaced. In checking these at the dealer, I discovered that the steel has a lot of carbon in it. The manufacturer is using an inferior product for these rotors. In checking the on line, I discovered that this seems to be normal for general motors, that they are aware of it and it doesn't matter if you have 100 miles or more this is happening to these vehicles. General motors is using inferior materials.

27 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2008

Soft service brake pedal. Pedal travels to the end of travel with minimal effort, and without full braking force. Taken to dealer 4 times and they cannot figure it out.

28 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2008

2004 Chevrolet silverado abs breaks pulse at low speed when stopping on non slippery surfaces, greatly increasing stopping distance and control characteristics of the vehicle. This sudden change in breaking performance and vehicle to pulling to the left, almost resulted in a collision. This condition is known to NHTSA as id# 10004310 or TSB# 030525007 I strongly believe that this safety defect should be corrected by recall. As I understand it earlier models have a safety recall for this condition which is caused by metal corrosion.

29 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2008

My 2004 chevy silverado has low speed abs activation even on dry pavement. The pedal locks up and you cannot stop the truck. Earlier trucks were recalled for this but not mine. Gm does not want to assist in the repair of the vehicle. The problem is a well known problem that greatly affects the safe operation of the vehicle. It has almost made me crash many times, it is now parked in need of repair. My other complaint is that the emergency brake will not hold the vehicle. It is a very poor design that is also well known. The ebrake is useless, this is also a large safety concern. Couple these two problems together, and its deaths waiting to happen.

30 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2008

Normal daily driver one day the abs pump motor started running and would not shut off even with the key shut off. The only fix is to buy another abs module (faulty ).

31 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2008

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that his brakes had to be completely replaced at 18,000 miles. The rotor was rusted, corroded, soft, and spongy. The dealer replaced the brakes for free. Currently, at 28,000 miles, the brakes are in worse condition than before the previous repair was performed. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer for repair; however, they wanted to charge him for the service. The contact feels that he should not have to pay since the brakes were not properly repaired the first time. Instead, the contact took the vehicle to a private mechanic for repair. The failure mileage was 28,300.

32 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2008

Brakes became weak. Upon inspection, I discovered that the inside of the rotor was wearing in only a 1" wide circle around the rotor. The rear of the rotor was rusted over inside and outside o where the pad should have left them clean and shiny. Pad was almost worn out, but still serviceable. Outside pad was like new.

33 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

Brake rotors rusting out ,this truck has 38,000 miles on it, brakes do not work well like this. I had to have rotors replaced, could not turn because to much rust.

34 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2006

The brakes on my 2004 silverado k1500 are very poor. I have had it in 3 times, but each time I have been told the brakes are fine. The 3rd time in they told me the brakes were in gm specs, but then told me how to fix them. That tells me there is a problem and they are ignoring it.

35 Service Brakes problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2005

Rear rotors fail at about 30,000 mile interval replaced once under warranty --after that it was out of my pocket.
