36 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The brakes failed on my truck and I hit a parked dump trailer. Upon inspection I found that the brake lines had severly rusted and failed. I was unable to stop safely and unable to pump them up. The brake line failure occured under the drivers door.

Failure Date: 06/27/2013

All 5 brake lines are badly corroded, 2 were leaking. Filled the reservoir, and drove it to local shop for repair, {about 2 miles}, using what little brake I had, {pedal on the floor}, and emergency brakes. Could have been very serious and was very expensive to get fixed. Talked to local chevy dealer who told me they replace brake lines on customers cars and trucks almost every day. Gm will not do recall because problem is localized to the "salt area" of north eastern united states. But gm does state that vehicle should stop without fluid. That is not true!.

39 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2013

Truck has an exhaust leak at manifolds. 4 bolts have broken off of the manifold. My mechanic said this is very common with this truck and could cost up to and over $1,000. 00 to fix. Check engine light is on so unless I fix it I can't go to state inspection. Also the brake lines are corroded and also need to be replaced. These are all defects not maintenance issues. . 40 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 12/24/2012

While at a stop with foot on brakes, the pedal suddenly depressed all the way to the floor. A check revealed that the rigid brake line from the ehcu to the drivers side front wheel had failed due to corrosion.

41 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2012

Severely rusted brake lines throughout. Line ruptured while vehicle was traveling at approximately 30 mph on a residential street. No injuries or damage but for a vehicle of this age to look like it does underneath is despicable. I've lived in new england all of my life and have owned and worked on several older vehicles than my current truck and have never seen corrosion this bad underneath. Replacing all lines with stainless steel immediately. How this didn't happen sooner is difficult to believe.

42 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2012

Brake lines rusted and burst front and rear, pressed the pedal to shift from park to drive pedal went all the way to floor, luckily was setting in parking lot.

43 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

On 7/1/2011, my 2005 chevy silverado lost brakes. The loss of brakes was caused by a leak from a corroded section of brake line. I had that section of the line replaced and continued to drive. On 6/12/2012, the same thing happened to another section of the brake line. The corroded line split and brake fluid was gushing out. Luckily, on both occasions I was able to stop my vehicle before crashing into someone or something. When I had my vehicle towed to my mechanic, he said that the brake lines were so corroded that he would recommend replacing the entire line for safety. I also had an opportunity to look at the lines and was in complete agreement with the mechanic. My vehicle at the time of the first incident was 6 years old and had 57,751 miles on it. The second incident occurred about a year later and the mileage was 62,719.

44 Brake Hoses, Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2011

This complaint is to document brake line failures on 3 separate occasions for my 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While bleeding my brakes in June of 2011, one of the rear brake lines burst and the pedal went completely to the floor. Thankfully, this happened in my driveway and the burst was in a section of the line accessible for me to replace. Then, in August of 2013, my brake pedal went all the way to the floor while attempting to stop suddenly after someone pulled out in front of me. I was travelling 25 to 30 mph. With some maneuvering, I was able to avoid hitting the person but drifted well through the intersection before coming to a slow stop. Thankfully no one else was there. Fortunately, I could literally see my house (and my children who were waiting for me to return from work), and was able to pull into the driveway and have my truck towed to a service shop the next day. The shop replaced a section of the rear brake lines and felt the remainder of the lines were still safe. It should be noted that the break was in a different place than the first brake line failure. The third brake line failure occurred on December 5th, 2014 when my brake pedal went all the way to the floor when I attempted to come to a sudden stop when another driver came into my lane without warning. Again I was travelling 25 to 30 mph and nearly ran head on into another driver after my truck drifted slowly to a stop (probably took 3 times the distance it would have normally taken to stop). At the time of the incident, my vehicle had roughly 67,100 miles on it. Roughly two-thirds of the total brake line system was completely rusted and needed to be replaced. Seeing the other complaints filed for Chevrolet silverado’s and GMC sierra’s, I sincerely hope that something is done to address this issue before someone is seriously hurt or killed by these failing brake lines.
