Strange smell in a/c unit when turned on. Fan blower wasn't blowing high enough, then eventually stopped working. Took vehicle to mechanic. Stated the fan and resister had burned up. There was a recall on manual a/c but not on auto. The same problem happened in my auto a/c as happened in manual a/c why is my vehicle not covered under the recall when it is the same problem.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

My truck as dual ac controles, while driving the driver side air blows hot air while air conditioner is on. If you turn the truck off and then back on it fixes the problem for sometime 2min and sometimes 30 min. I know multiple people that have the same problem as me, I have seen hundereds of people on forums that have the same problem with the same truck and others such as the tahoe, avalanche, suburban of same year and different years. Some forums that I have read stated that the truck could catch fire, I am very concerned about the situation, most people say that the parts to fix the problem are around $500 - $700, but this is occuring in hundereds if not thousands of gm vehicles.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2011

2005 chevy Silverado 1500. After my vehicle was towed the speedometer stopped working. It reads 16 mph while stopped and stays 16 mph over whatever speed I'm traveling. Chevy needs to do something about this. Too many people are have the same issue.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2011

1. Speedomoter stopped working creating unsafe driving condition. 2. Appears to be permanent breakage. 3. Gm agreed to replace faulty part, but I still had to pay for labor. They agreed that the part is faulty yet still hold the customer financially accountable for their unsafe mistake.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2010

Last week I smelled something burning in my truck. Investigated and found insulation was melting off heater blower wires at plug under dash. Three of the wires had a half inch of exposed conductor showing at pigtail. At same time, my heater fan switch quit working at the two highest speed settings. After researching this problem on internet, I had to replace blower resistor and wire pigtail. Fan switch works now, but vent selector switch doesn't work now. Melted wires could have caused truck to catch on fire. I have old resistor and melted pigtail.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2010

As we were driving down the street black smoke started to come out of the air conditioning vents. Then I noticed flames and melted plastic coming out of the bottom of the glove box area. We pulled our child from the burning truck and called 911. Fire trucks were there in less than 4 minutes but by that time the entire passenger cab was engulfed in flames and there were at least two separate explosions that blew out all the windows, my husband thinks that the airbags exploded. The truck is a complete loss and we are lucky to have escaped with only minor injuries. We could have been killed or seriously injured.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2010

It seems I have the same issue as most the blower works randomly. I have also smelled smoke. The blower stays on after the car has been shut off and I have exited the vehicle. Second time I have had issues first time was covered by warranty.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

Electrical fire hazard that affects the heater, air conditioner, cruise control, abs, and brakes on 2005 Chevrolet silverado model trucks. A short in the electrical system is common on these vehicles and know by the dealerships to effect multiple points as a direct result of a short in the electrical system which could lead to an electrical fire or serious injury from system failures. Items that are affected include but are not limited to fuse box, wire harness, wire connectors, the heater/ac blower motor, fuses, relays, and many other parts. The system short that occurred in this vehicle was identified by the dealership without even seeing the burned parts.

I own a chevy Silverado 1500 z71 extended cab and the speedometer sticks and says im going 100mph when im barely even rolling it seems to happen when the outside temp got below 30 degrees f that my speedometer would stop working. When it warmed up 10-15 degrees it would start working again. Gm needs to recall this due to it can result in a accident and can be fatal if I don't know how fast I am going as well as it is illegal! if it does result in a ticket gm will be paying for it- gm claims they stand by their product and so be it they need to fix it! this is a safety problem. And needs to be covered 100% free of charge!.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2009

The wires leading to a/c blower are shorting out one at a time. It started with the climate control set on hi stopped working then went on down to 4. Could possible short out and cause a fire. I have not yet purchased the new parts to replace looked online first to see if there had been a recall for this problem.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2009

I have a 2005 Chevrolet silverado that has 2 main issues with truck. The first on is dealing with the air condition system. The relay for the fan motor directly under the dash burnt, and after doing research on the computer I found that this was common with this year model chevy. I called the Chevrolet hot line number and there were no recalls on this part. I then went to the dealership and found out that they had replacement parts in stock due to the frequency of the part being purchased. This part was replaced and 2 months afterwards the air conditioning and heat went out again, but was not the same part. This time the fan motor was diagnosed as the problem. I have not fixed this part due to myself not feeling it is my obligation to spend several hundred dollars fixing stuff that is common throughout truck of the same year and make. This part that was replaced got very hot and smoked when going out. There is definitely a safety issue with this part catching on fire and my child not able to ride in my vehicle during hot summer months due to parts messing up constantly. By the way no fuse every burn up in this process until after fan motor went out. The second issue I have is the instrument cluster on my truck. The engine hours meter has reset twice now which wasn't a big deal, but the gear selection on the dash is now starting to not work properly. I recently went to leave from work and went putting the truck in drive the indication on the dash stayed in park. The truck was in gear though because I didn't realize that this had happened until after getting on the road. I pulled over and went back to park with the shifter. After doing so the indication worked. I am afraid that this will start happening more frequent along with the engine hours clearing. I am sure something else is to follow that could be major to the drive train due to the excessive electronic technologies on vehicles now. Thank you for looking into these problems.

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

I am the owner of 2005 chevy Silverado 1500 truck. About a month or less ago my speedometer quit working stays on 120 or 0 whether it is parked or while driving it. We called the dealer that we bought this truck new from and the maintenance man said it was under warr up to 70,000 miles which my mileage is 46711. The next day we recv a call saying it is not under warr because of our VIN # is not covered. The dealer gave me a # to call gm motors and I have talked with several people there and all are saying the VIN# is not good only some VIN#'s are under the 7 year or 70,000. I drive my truck to work only,do monthly maint on it through walmart, I feel this is a safety concern for me since I feel it a defect on the truck and either gm or the dealer needs to replace this part@ their cost not mine. They can not give me a reason why only some VIN#s are covered. I have checked on the internet and it shows alot of people with the same problem as mine. Hope you can help me with this thank you.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the dual climate control on the air conditioning/ heating system failed on an intermittent basis; when he had the heat on, one side would blow hot air and the other side cold air and the same failure occurred when the air conditioner was on. He had to drive onto the emergency lane, turn off the engine, and re-start the vehicle. The dealer refuse to inspect the vehicle since the warranty was no longer valid. The electrical connector on the floorboard would also fail causing the fan to stop working; the heating system/air conditioning system would not function without the fan. He replaced the connectors at his expense twice and the connector failed again. He called the manufacturer and a representative told him that they could not assist him. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was approximately 61,000. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that the speedometer would malfunction intermittently. While driving 20 mph, the speedometer would indicate that she was driving 60 mph. When the vehicle would be parked, the speedometer would indicate that the vehicle was being driven at 120 mph. The failure would usually correct itself or reset after a couple of hours; however, it recently became stuck and failed to reset. The dealer could not assist because the vehicle was outside of the warranty. The manufacturer has not been notified. The current mileage was approximately 64,000 and failure mileage was approximately 63,800.
