While driving uphill in my 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, I experienced a sudden and dangerous loss of power, accompanied by a flashing check engine light, ticking noise, and loss of oil pressure. The engine began to shake violently and I nearly rolled backward into another vehicle before I was able to shut it off. After restarting the truck, it began jerking and misfiring, making it completely undriveable. The issue occurred without warning and required a tow. Symptoms observed: •low oil pressure warning •ticking/knocking noise from engine •engine shaking and loss of power •jerking and severe misfire when restarted •flashing check engine light •diagnosed failed/stuck afm lifter in cylinder 6 •engine misfire isolated to cylinder 6 (confirmed by unplugging ignition coil with no change) •oil consumption and burning smell over prior months •possible camshaft damage due to lifter failure shops involved: 1. Pep boys (north clairemont, san diego) – charged $400 and claimed to fix the issue, but symptoms returned immediately. 2. Rosecrans automotive (san diego) – confirmed the issue is likely due to afm system failure (collapsed lifter/cam damage). Estimated repair cost: $4,500+. Additional impact: •required towing after complete loss of drivability •rental car for over a week (ongoing) •potential lost income due to inability to commute to work •total cost between diagnostics, failed repair, and upcoming repairs is significant safety concerns: •sudden power loss occurred while climbing a steep hill—nearly caused a rear-end collision •jerking, misfire, and engine instability made it unsafe to control •no prior warning; failure happened instantly why I am reporting: this is clearly a systemic issue with gm’s active fuel management system, especially in 5. 3l v8 engines like mine. It poses not only a major safety risk to drivers and other vehicles, but also an enormous financial burden on consumers. Based on online forums an.
T ruck left my wife totally stranded in the middle of a busy intersection. It was running but would not accelerate. I ran the codes and 2 codes that has never popped up before was p1682 and p2138. One said it could be the ignition and the other said it could be accelerator position sensor on gas peddle. My mechanic said this is a communication problem where the wires go into the ecm. Bad connection or moisture getting in. I have had a few wonky codes pop up that we believe to be bad connections. Gm needs to get this recalled and resolved. Trucks just stopping in the middle of the highway and in traffic is super dangerous. After I pushed on connection going into ecm, it started and I have not been able to duplicate code. We will see once it rains if it comes back. Way too many computers running these cars. A computer should never be involved with the running of engine, acceleration, braking or steering. Keep the computers for the entertainment systems!.

2008 chevy Silverado 1500 fire on 11/20/20 I was driving 3 miles to my friends house and as soon as I pulled up, I smelt fire. I got out to find out that my passenger headlight and everything under the hood was on fire!! as I started to run for help, I tripped over a large size curb and landed on my face. My neck, shoulders and back have been difficult to move since this happened. I tried to lift the hood but that was too hot to do so, I ran into my friends house screaming for a fire extinguisher!! as I was running back to remove as much as I could out of the truck her husband came out with the fire extinguisher and she came with the hose. I now I can barely move my neck, my back is in severe pain, and my ribs hurt immensely. As I survived this life threatening ordeal, I started doing background checks on this type of vehicle and 124 deaths have occurred because of this gm problem. How is this not a class action law suit?!!.

Air bag light is in and I had a lifter failure on my motor. Bed and rockers are rotting out.
5. 3 motor lifters are going out because of the fuel management bad lifters.
Rapid temporary loss of engine power, doorlocks cycling repeatedly, guages malfunctioning, radio shuts off and turns back on with no preset stations and showing 12:00 on the clock ,cruise control disengages. Once vehicle is shut off, no guages nor lights work. . . As if there wasn't any battery in the vehicle. Vehicle won't start until dome light is restored on via jumpstarting. Cleaning battery connections and numerous ground wire connections gives short-lived relief from symtoms but problems ultimately return. Chevy dealership diagnosis shows that ground wires have high resistance. Online research shows that tens of thousands of other chevy owners are having similar to exact same problems, yet no recall has been issued. Problem was "fixed" last year and has returned yet again.
The engine is the 5. 3 and is suffering from excessive oil loss, normally 2-3 qts between oil changes.
At 84000 miles have cylinder 7 collapsed lifter. This is a known and prevalent issue associated with the active fuel managment system (afm). Total repair estimate >$3000. This issue has affected many gm vehicles, especially trucks, with this costly repair. Once this occurs it is only a matter of time that the same problem reoccures.
Vehicle began to knock and idle rough. Noticed while in stationary mode on a city street. Vehicle is misfiring in cylinder 1. Engine has a history of beating up its cam shaft and lifters.
Engine lost compression and started ticking while traveling at 65 mph and came to an abrupt stop in traffic. This caused a safety concern with my 2 infant sons as passengers. The engine light was flashing which resulted in a code p0304.
This truck developed big oil use problem.
While driving at speed door locks will actuate back and forth with all dash lights flashing. Eventually car loses all power, engine dies, and have to pulp to side of interstate without power brakes or propulsion. I was personally almost rear ended by a semi at approx 60 mph. Furthermore, it is know that all door panels in this vehicle retain moisture. This has killed all speakers and I guess it could be a potential cause of the afore mentioned problem.
Motor knocks and is using oil a lot of oil and the dash light flicker with the switch.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving uphill at approximately 55 mph, the engine power reduced as the vehicle decelerated to 25 mph with the illumination of a warning indicator. The engine was turned off but the failure persisted upon restarting. The contact continued to his destination and powered the vehicle off however, once the auto start switch was activated the vehicle resumed normally with the engine warning indicator illuminated. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 50,379.
Was at a red light when vehicle came to no function. Stabilitrak / traction control light kept coming on and off for months. Truck lost driving ability and lights became coming on. Lost brakes, transmission light came on along with stabilitrak, and traction light. Vehicle lost acceleration and did not have ability of power. Sounded like spark plugs miss firing. Brakes became disabled and where grinding. (new brakes) had to push my truck off road as it had no pressure to drive. Mechanics think it is the throttle body sensor. Will see.
Engine lost power, rattling badly. After stopping, engine was still running, but had no power and rattled like a lifter blew. Towed to dealer, where they determined that the camshaft blew and damaged #7 lifter. The tech said it was a "materials defect/failure". 1. 5 months out of powertrain warranty. Gm is giving me grief over taking care of the $3000. 00 repair bill. They are offering only $1800. 00, but a materials defect should be taken care of by the manufacturer. Truck only has 63000 + miles on it.
The catalytic converter had strong sulfur smell after the first year. I complained to chevy dealer and was told there was no problem. By year three I complained for the third time again was told no problem the computer didn't show a code. I asked the mechanic to take it for a drive he returned saying the cat was junk it was replaced and I was told only to run top tier gas I did that but after about 8 months it smelled again my truck is just five years old and I need another converter, my power locks have each been replaced three times in second and third year. Now I need new airbag sensor and my truck has never been hit .
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving at 68 mph, an excessive amount of gasoline entered the fuel injection system. The contact was unaware of what caused the failure to occur. The spark plugs were replaced five times due to the failure; however, the failure occurred approximately fifteen times. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer nine times and the dealer was unable to repair the vehicle. The current mileage was 18,132. The failure mileage was approximately 8,000.
