While driving at highway speed with cruise control engaged, the vehicle experienced a sudden loss of propulsion. The engine began jerking and the vehicle rapidly decelerated from highway speed (50 mph) to 10–15 mph. The transmission appeared to disengage or shift to neutral around 10 mph, and the vehicle was unable to maintain speed, creating a hazardous situation in traffic. The vehicle then shut down and displayed a message to restart the engine along with a check engine light. When attempting to restart, the engine would not turn over properly and produced a loud clicking/struggling noise, similar to a failed or seized engine. The vehicle was towed and is currently awaiting diagnosis at a dealership. This failure occurred without warning and created a serious safety risk due to sudden loss of power while driving.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. While driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle experienced transmission failure. The contact stated that the transmission struggled while changing gears. Additionally, while shifted into drive(d), the vehicle lunged forward with much force. The contact stated that when the vehicle was first started, the vehicle operated normally; however, once the engine had warmed up, the failure occurred. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 81,600.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly decelerated, lost automotive power, shifted to neutral, and then shifted into park. During the failure, the contact depressed the brake pedal and pressed the start button for approximately 10 seconds to restart the vehicle. The failure had occurred five times, and the contact was able to reset the computer and restart the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil, and the transmission was shifting hard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the contact was informed that the engine in the vehicle was a replacement engine. The dealer had not diagnosed or repaired the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 4,000.
Vehicle developed engine ticking/tapping noise followed by rough running and misfire condition. Independent repair facility performed engine teardown and found cylinder 4 exhaust camshaft lobe severely worn/damaged. Repair facility stated the exhaust roller follower/lifter needle bearings failed and fell out, causing the roller to seize and come off position, resulting in improper valve operation and cylinder malfunction. Vehicle lost proper engine performance and required major internal engine repair including camshaft, lifters/lash adjusters, and roller followers. Failure appears consistent with gm preliminary information bulletin pip5847b for 2019–2024 Chevrolet silverado/GMC sierra 2. 7l l3b engines describing exhaust roller follower bearing failure and camshaft damage. Concern is that sudden valvetrain failure could result in loss of power, engine failure, or unsafe driving condition.
I was driving in a 70mph zone and lost all propulsion. Vehicle said to shift to neutral to start. Pulled to the side of the highway and it would not crank. Had to have the vehicle towed.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, there was a whining sound coming from the transmission. Additionally, while driving, the transmission failed to properly shift gears. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 24v797000 (power train). After retrieving the vehicle, the vehicle hesitated and decelerated unintendedly while driving. The vehicle was then towed to the local dealer. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,000.
Vehicle experienced a sudden rough shift followed up by hard shifting and transmission locking up rear wheels. If I was traveling at a higher rate of speed (over 30mph) a accident could've easily resulted. Check engine light and vehicle went into reduced acceleration mode after 3 to 4 severe shift occurances. Dealer has vehicle and found the valve body of transmission was faulty and will be replacing entire valve body. Still under factory warranty. Mileage at occurance was 45,006 miles.
Truck went in for the recall around Nov/Dec 2025. Passed recall for 6. 2l crankshaft and new oil was put in the vehicle. Today the truck lost power while driving and the check engine light came on to include a message saying the transmission went out. The vehicle is now un drivable and with a Chevrolets dealership waiting to be fixed.
The vehicle experienced a sudden loss of 4wd capability and transmission communication while driving. The dealership diagnosed a defective battery ground cable. Gm has issued customer satisfaction program n252515590 for this exact issue, but they are refusing to cover my specific VIN despite the truck exhibiting the exact failure described. This defect causes the vehicle to lose critical powertrain functions, posing a safety risk on the road.
My l87 6. 2l engine shut off on the interstate while driving in traffic at 70mph. I coasted to the left shoulder and attempted to restart it, but it would not turn over. I had it towed to a dealer where they diagnosed it as seized. Currently waiting for a new engine to arrive with no eta. I had no warning signs or sounds. Two months prior it had the recall completed passing the pico test and changed to the heavier oil.
My coolant control valve has failed, the dealership is saying the radiator is now leaking at a weld. They said this is a know issue, but are refusing to repair it. It is caused by the know failing ccv, causing the radiator to overheat.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph on four occasions, the rear wheels locked up. The contact slowed down and steered to the side of the road, and inspected the vehicle, but found no fault with it. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 101,411.
The transmission valve body failed. Even after the recall software update that it received. There were no warnings or codes, the transmission simply just started shifting hard and would not go in reverse. This type of incident could prove to be very dangerous especially in high traffic areas. There are only 35,000 miles on the Silverado 1500 trail boss. I took it in to the local Chevrolet dealership, and they confirmed that it was the valve body.
While turning left, the transmission stuttered and got stuck in first gear. I did some basic research and learned that this is a known issue with 2020-2022 Chevrolet silverado vehicles. I attempted the suggested fix which worked briefly. I then took the vehicle to my local Chevrolet dealer for repairs. After further research I learned that this is a known issue with my year and model of silverado. Gm further voluntarily offered a 15 year, 150,000 mile warranty for this issue. According to gm, my particular VIN is not included in this recall. I am concerned as to how many other trucks are not included. This issue also cost nearly $4,000 for the repair.
Hi, I would like to report an issue with my vehicle. The transmmision has been experiencing problems, and the dashboard radio display has been flickering intermittently.
Was driving down the road at 35 mph and I instantly lost forward drive. Reverse worked but I could not drive forward. Got the vehicle towed and had to have the valve body in the transmission replaced.
My wife borrowed my truck and went to costco, after backing out of the parking spot the truck sputtered and stalled in the lane of travel. The truck would not start and more importantly she was not able to get it into neutral. The truck would simply state "shift conditions not met" and would stay in park. There is no options listed in the manual to get the vehicle into neutral manually. This "shift conditions not met" bricked my truck in the entrance / exit of a busy costco. What would have happened if this happened on a main road or a freeway?.
February 3, 2026 my 2022 silverado zr2 with 37,000 miles shut off on me while driving at a speed of 45 mph, I was able to pull over safely, I mentioned this to the dealership and they were unable to figure out why. 2 weeks later, my truck began to start making a loud knocking noise from the engine, I took it to the dealership and they stated that it was a failed engine and they would need to start a claim and most likely need a new engine. I have been waiting for a new engine now without a ship date on when the engine will arrive to the dealership to begin repairing my truck. They did do the recall test, change the oil type and oil cap. However, the engine still failed and I have been left without my truck until who knows when. I’ve started a claim myself with general motors to get better updates, but they don’t have one either at this time.
Truck went into limp mode. Would not shift. Stayed in one gear and would not back up. The truck basically downshifted from 8th to 2nd gear, causing me to lock up the brakes and almost lose control. Several warning lights on the dash. It's been at a transmission shop for over 3 weeks. They are having issues being able to get parts from gm. They are having problems fixing it. The blind spot lights will turn on for no reason. The lights opposite of the vehicle comes on. I've almost wrecked multiple times.
Transmission is not acting up just light for service transmission now will stop shifting soon.
One day my truck drove perfect to, the next day while driving it starting losing power drastically on the highway and shuts off that I had to dead steer it to the shoulder. ”engine power reduced/grinding/knocking sound came on. I brought it to my mechanic and he says change the engine he is seeing a common thing with these 2. 7 liter from this truck model, I paid $6,500 to change it and it worked on the second hand motor that was put in. 4k miles later while driving from GA, I heard the same noises and the same message on the dash and the truck shuts off again in the lane and I had to steer it off to the shoulder. I towed it this time to tropical Chevrolet and paid diagnostic fee for them to look and tell me I need another engine that will run me over fourteen thousand dollars with parts and labor. I told them hey I just had this motor changed 4k miles ago can you figure out whats going on this is unsafe, best they could offer me is trade in the vehicle, no discount no recall no nothing. So I refused and towed it back to the mechanic who swapped it, he said I have warranty and he changed it to another motor and charged me $1,000 because the company he got the engine from said the truck overheated so they wont honor my warranty and he had to pay for it out of pocket…. Yeah! any way I went to pick up the truck with now the 3rd motor in it and on the highway 5 minutes and 2. 8 miles later(I have video proof of this) the same thing happened! on the turnpike the message came up and the speed dropped no power, it didn't shut off this time but I pulled over safely, still no overheating, I made some videos and sent it to the guys at tropical Chevrolet and didn't even get a reply, I called the mechanic and he tells me to drive it back to him, I did, they did some test and cleared the codes, I drove to auto-nation Chevrolet but talking with them led no where, I left, while at the gas pump I turned off the truck and it won’t turn back on now, so it’s towed back to the mechanic.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while shifting into park(p), the vehicle indicated that it was not in park(p). The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and then the vehicle began to work as intended. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the automatic shift control and gear shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
They did the pico test they said the engine was good they upgraded the oil months after that 3 time back to the dealer do to loss of propulsion its in a gm dealer shop waiting for the new long block as of 02-16-2026.
Vehicle has a 10-speed electronic controlled transmission that has been identified having issues in other models. The vehicle is experiencing jerking, hard shifting, and shifting delays. I want my model of vehicle to be included in the recall. Recently had the engine replaced due to another recall.
Vehicle lost power while driving on highway 2days in a row dealer syed they could not find any problems.
2022 zr2 silverado with the l87 6. 2l. Have been complaining of shuttering starting at 22,500 miles and a few times after that. Vehicle passed pico recall test and engine failed within 2,000 miles with zero warning. I was merging into traffic accelerating.
4x4 automatically engages and disengages after the 6. 2 engine recall replacement. Dealerships has no solution to the matter. This makes the truck stop operating at normal 2wd speed and limits the turning radius of the truck since it changes to 4wd.
On 09/25/25 at 59,502 miles recall work was completed per NHTSA recall no. 25v-274, l87 engine loss of propulsion. Dealer paperwork shows that my truck passed the picoscope inspection and was given the higher viscosity 0w-40 oil. On 12/10/25 at 63,904 miles, with the oil that was changed during the inspection; while traveling on highway nm-52 towing my travel trailer, I experienced a sudden loss of propulsion resulting in my truck stopping in the middle of the roadway. No prior indications of any issues were noted, no check engine lights, no loss of oil pressure, when loss of propulsion occurred. While in the middle of the road I attempted to restart the truck with no start-up. Using gravity, the truck was slowly moved off of the highway backwards. Upon opening the engine hood, a strong odor of burnt engine oil was present. No oil was noted coming out from the engine. When removing the engine oil dip stick it was noted to be steaming and extremely hot to the touch. Due to the location the vehicle it took 2 days to be taken to the dealer. No local vendors were able to pick up the truck to take to the dealer resulting in it having to be personally trailered to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to bravo Chevrolet and Cadillac in las cruces nm. The dealer evaluation of the truck determine that the engine had seized and was replaced under the extended warranty per the same listed recall. This engine failed after passing the required inspections and while utilizing the newly recommended engine oil. This failure could have resulted in an accident due to the nature of the failure, after being led to believe that there were no longer any issues or concerns after passing inspection. Why would there be a failure at that time if the engine passed inspection per the recall? only cause would be that the remedy action is not properly addressing or correcting the root cause of the failures in these l87 engines.
Engine light is on with dtc p1098 due to a faulty engine coolant control valve requiring replacement. Vehicle displays warning message “service transmission, unable to shift soon” due to faulty component in electronic shifter requiring replacement.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed highway speeds, the transmission unintendedly shifted in and out of gear. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure had not been diagnosed, but the contact was informed that the transmission failure was a well-known failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 47,120. The VIN was unavailable.
I purchased a pre-owned Chevrolet silverado z71, 4wd, off-road, ltz pickup truck (model # c1500 k 1500, VIN [xxx] , naic # xxx) from wally edgar Chevrolet in lake orion, michigan on 3/28/24. It has the v8 – 5. 3 l gasoline engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle was, and still is, in very good condition (no scratches, dents, and a good running engine). However, on 10/29/2025 the vehicle started not being able to shift out of 1st gear. I immediately took it to cruise transmission in rochester hills, michigan to have it evaluated. They indicated that the transmission “valve body” needed to be replaced at a cost of about $3,000. Their problem was that they couldn’t locate that part anywhere, and said it might be a month or more before it would be available! after not hearing anything for a couple of months (checking-in occasionally), I began to try to find out why that part wasn’t available. When I did a google search on “can you sue gm if they can’t provide parts for a [xxx] vehicle”, it came back with the fact that there was a class-action lawsuit in progress for transmission issues on the 2015-2019 chevy silverado pickup trucks with 8-speed transmissions. When I inquired with two of the main law firms associated with the class-action lawsuit they indicated that I wasn’t a candidate for the suit because my vehicle was out of the warranty period. I indicated that I understood that, but that I wasn’t able to use my vehicle because the part wasn’t available anywhere. I also called several local dealerships to see if they could get the part. All of which indicated that they couldn’t get the part either, and also expressed their frustration with the issue. On 1/6/2026 and 1/7/2026, I spoke with Chevrolet customer service who indicated they didn't know when or if the part would be available. I can't afford to throw away an $18,000 vehicle!!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Torque converter needs to be replaced at about 35000 miles. Power steering rack needs replacing at 36000 miles. Both of which would be considered major repairs for a vehicle with such low mileage.
On Sunday October 12th, 2025, we were driving in grand rapids,mn when our truck (2002 silverado [xxx] ) suddenly lost power. We were on a main highway without shoulders. The truck would not restart. The truck would not shift out of park to be rolled/pushed off the road. After about an hour, a tow truck arrived and towed the truck to our home ($200). We connected the odb2 code reader and found code p129f. After a bit of research, this code is related to a failed fuel pump control module (gm 13544060). The module is superseded with gm 13554821. We found this fuel control model is the subject of a recall (n252516900) on various gm vehicles that share a similar body design and year to this truck with this exact module. A semi-local dealer had the replacement part (gm 13554821 - $60) and we were able to replace it Monday morning to bring the vehicle back into service. I am requesting the following - expand the recall to include any vehicles with this known-faulty fuel pump control module information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
We are having 2 problems with this vehicle. The first is the key in the ignition is not always removeable when you turn the truck off. The second is we are told called the chevy shudder. It almost feels like the wheels pause for a micro second. It feels like the there is something wrong in the transmission, drive train area. The truck started doing this when it had less than 50,000 miles on it. It hasn't broke down yet but it wouldn't surprise me if it did any day now.
Issue: (1) was parking truck and as I placed the shifter into "r", it would not stay in "r" I could not engage reverse. After 3-4 times, I pulled straight forward and attempted to shift the vehicle into "r". It finally locked into "r" and I was able to back the truck up. I also experienced a hard shift when I had placed it into "d" to pull forward. Issue: (2) earlier that day, was as I was backing out of my driveway, I noticed my backup video, went out, and intermittently, came back on. At one point it displayed a circle with a triangle?.
