My throttle body went out. Horrible shifting and wheel lockup.
Accelerating getting onto the highway, at about 65 mph I heard and felt 2 clunks and I lost propulsion. I made it to the side of the road and the vehicle went completely dead. I tried restarting it and it wouldn’t do a thing.
Gm has been manufacturing silverado pickup trucks with faulty transmission valve bodies for several years. There has been ongoing issues for several years with the defective valve body part. I purchase a 2023 for my business. It is presently at a dealership waiting on the part. It is my understanding gm has so many of these issues they can't keep up with the parts. I am told it could be weeks or months to get this part. Online you can see countless others who have waiting 2-3 months for a replacement valve body. How can they keep making the trucks with these defective parts. I still have to pay my $1,300 monthly payment while I have no use of my vehicle and they do not pay the full cost of a rental.
Valve body failed - truck currently at dealership the valve body failed as I was pulling out of a gas station - emergency brake immediately engaged and kept re-engaging as I was trying to make it across the street into the parking lot. Truck could not go more than 5 mph and I was stuck and almost hit. Problem has been confirmed by the dealer after it was towed directly there. Unknown if component has been inspected outside of service department. Truck initially would not remote start using key fob, but then made it to gas station fine without any further symptoms. After gas station, car started severely shaking then emergency brake engaged and would not accelerate.
Over the past 4–6 months, the transmission in my 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has repeatedly failed in a way that creates a serious safety hazard. On multiple occasions while driving at highway speeds, the transmission has locked up the rear end, causing a sudden and violent loss of control. These incidents nearly resulted in collisions and could have caused serious injury or death. The truck will no longer shift at all and is now completely inoperable. These failures happen without warning and present a severe risk of total loss of vehicle control. Date(s) of incident: multiple occurrences between approximately March 2025 and August 2025 (exact dates unknown). Dealer / manufacturer response: I contacted Chevrolet customer care and multiple Chevrolet dealerships in my area (including john megel Chevrolet, dawsonville, GA). My most recent case was closed without resolution. I have been denied a loaner or reimbursement for a rental vehicle, and I have been told that the repair could take at least a month before even being assessed, with additional delays for parts. Consequence: this is not only a serious safety hazard but also a severe financial and employment hardship. I rely on this truck for my job, and without it, I cannot work. I am now three months behind on my truck payments and other bills, and I am on the verge of losing my job because I have no transportation. Gm’s failure to repair or provide alternate transportation has left me stranded, financially unstable, and at risk of unemployment — all while the vehicle remains under an extended warranty. Request to NHTSA: I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether this defect is part of a wider safety issue affecting 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 transmissions and determine if a safety recall is warranted.
I was towing my boat, attempting to get on a 4 lane highway via on ramp. Truck refused to shift and went into limp mode as I was attempting to merge. Vehicles behind me on the ramp and coming up behind had to slam on their brakes. Diagnosed as a bad valve body. The issue is very widespread across gm vehicles, gm has a national backorder on the valve body as there are a ton of vehicles waiting for them. Gm has not issued a recall at this time.
Was driving home and truck stuttered three times then went into limp mode, dropped truck off at dealership and was told it had a loose wire so they plugged it back in and charged me $200. Next day it happened again and brought it back when they told me my truck needed a replacement valve body. I've now been waiting over 2 months paying $858. 18 a month for a truck I cant drive.
While driving at ~30 mph the rear wheels locked up momentarily with no warning and without applying the breaks. The back of the vehicle fish-tailed while the tires slid. Following the incident the check engine light came on and the vehicle went into limp mode and would not go more than about 25 - 30 mph. I immediately took it to the Chevrolet dealer. The dealer indicated that the codes showed an issue with the transmission control module. It is currently at the dealer to be repaired. The vehicle has 51917 miles and is still under power train warranty. There was no warning or indication something was about to happen prior to the incident. The truck is a 2023 Silverado 1500 with the 2. 7 liter turbo engine with the gm 8 speed transmission.
This is the third time since the purchase date of July 2023, that my diesel 1500 silverado has gone into "reduced engine power" while driving. The first date was August 2024, while traveling down the interstate. The check engine light came on. My maximum speed was reduced to 50mph, and the transmission shifting was very jerky. This was extremely dangerous with the flow of traffic traveling 70+ mph. I returned to the dealer where the vehicle sat on the lot for approximately 60 days awaiting the part (valve body) from gm. Components were repaired through warranty. Fast forward to February 2025, "reduced engine power" notification came on again with the code p0747, p700. Returned to dealer, and after a week of sitting on the lot, the technician could not duplicate the code. I requested that a new fuel filter be replaced for piece of mind. Today, 3 mos. Later, as I was backing out of my driveway, my truck did not shift/engage into reverse. I was able to roll into the road & put it in drive, however it went into "reduced engine power. " the vehicle will have to be towed, at my expense, I'm sure, to further diagnose the cause. The truck does not move when shifted into reverse, and pressure is applied to the pedal. It is extremely concerning knowing a national recall on identical gm components has been reported, and yet I have had identical issues without resolution. Despite the known problems and safety risks, especially with a child in the vehicle during each failure, I’ve been left without consistent or timely support. I am requesting immediate assistance in diagnosing and repairing this vehicle, as well as a formal explanation of why this recurring issue has not triggered a broader response or replacement. At this point, I’m also considering pursuing further action through gm corporate or a consumer protection agency if a permanent resolution is not reached.
On the freeway transmission downshifted to first, loud bang and skidding to limp mode vehicles behind us skidded off highway and others changed lane causing chaos yelling screaming angry drivers, not a great situation, I had the recall done, it was just a software update that detects a problem and puts it into dangerous limp mode at high speed.
Valve body failure on transmission.
The symptoms since the beginning of 2024 have been that when braking between 7 and 10 mph, you feel a bump or a skid, and when you stop, the engine shakes for a moment as if it's going to shut off. This happens with the auto stop-start off. A sudden braking moment can affect the vehicle's performance, making it difficult to control and increasing the risk of accidents, especially when it comes to a pickup truck that may have a trailer with cargo or objects in the bed that can be thrown. The trailer can even leave the road, losing control of the car. In 2024, I took the truck to the place where I bought it, bomnin Chevrolet dadeland, for a checkup. I explained all the symptoms to my advisor, just as I do here. I had to take it to wait for a loaner. A few days later, I took it back, and they had it for almost a week. When I picked it up, my advisor told me everything was fine. When I left the dealership, I found the same symptoms, so I went back and told him the car was still doing the same thing, and he told me it was normal. After much insistence, he got in the car with me to show him the problem, and the car did it several times, but according to him, it was normal. Now, in 2025, a week ago I took it to miami lakes auto mall to get checked out with the same symptoms and explanation. I started investigating why that couldn't possibly be normal car operation. They found they had to replace the torque converter and valve body because they found an excessive amount of metal in the transmission. The valve body is on back order indefinitely at all dealerships, so I had to take the car in that condition. Before taking it, I spoke with the manager and gm to ask them to give me a car until they fixed mine because it wasn't right for me to drive the car like that. But they didn't offer me anything. I took it back to bomnin Chevrolet dadeland and they told me they were going to change the transmission and torque converter and conveniently they didn't have to change the valve.
While accelerating from a traffic signal the transmission shifted very hard and caused the vehicle to suddenly lunge forward.
2023 Silverado 1500 zr2 19000 miles, motor shut off going down the freeway pulling my sxs at 70 miles an hour no warning nothing alarm nothing. My wife and I were scared to death trying to get off the freeway pulling a trailer and not knowing if the truck would make it. People around us beeping there horns with flipping us off,no warning. 300$ to get my trailer toed back home. Dealership tells me they don't have a loner but would give me a voucher. I have been trying to trade out of the truck after hearing about the truck problems 6. 2 is a bad motor I new it was just a matter of time. Now I am stuck. The scariest part was the timing could not have been worse coming off the freeway. How do I know even when it is fixed it will not happen again. Then we could not get the truck in neutral to toe to dealership so they dragged the $80. 000 truck on to the toe truck nice.
I was in stop and go traffic, the truck engine turned off I could not get it to crank. I was stuck in the middle of a busy road for at least an hour until the tow truck driver got there. Since the truck has electric shifting for the transmission, I could not get the truck into neutral to at-least push it to a safe place. I was informed by the dealership that there is no neutral override unless the vehicle is running. The shifting and fuel system “fuel module” failure is a know problem from gm and need to be recalled. If this would have happened on the interstate I don’t think the outcome would be great. The truck is a little over 1 year old and has under 15,000 miles. Very dangerous situation.
At 19k miles the transmission had a shifting problem and went into limp mode forcing a deceleration while on a highway. Had to unhook the battery and hook it back up to clear the code to get to a safe point for towing. Had to do this 3 times. Once at the dealer they could not recreate the problem. One week later it went into limp mode again. Took it to the deal and was informed that the valve body in the transmission would need to be replace. There is a supply shortage on parts and I am now without a truck for who knows how long.
Valve body went bad. . . Like so many others. No eta on part from gm. Not a good situation from a business owner that needs a truck to conduct business.
At 383 miles the engine started a ticking noise. Around the same mileage the transmission would also start make hard down shifts, especially into 1st gear. At around 27000 miles transmission would also shutter at light loads and low speeds. Attempted to take it to dealer 2 different times, but they had no loaner cars and needed it for more than a day. At milage 28,251 I drove to the dealership an insisted that it needed to be fixed. They were able to provide loaner car at that time. Engine ticking noise was cylinder number 7 lifter stuck closed. Transmission was unable to be checked due to engine needing repair. The dealer replace all 8 lifters on drivers side of engine. Upon the fix they test drove for the transmission problem and noticed noise coming from the water pump. Replaced the water pump and was told transmission needed a new valve body. Those parts were on back order for over 3 months. They found a service bulletin to reprogram the transmission so they could release the truck to me instead of hold months for parts. After more than 30 days in shop picked up truck. After driving around for a few hours noticed engine noise again but different. Like a bearing? dealer had already closed so took it back the next day. Couple days later was informed that the head gasket was installed wrong? really. Went to the dealer's new car manager and asked to be traded out of it and into a new truck. Dealer offered me 10,000 below blue book for trade in! they didn't even want their own product back. Picked up truck couple days later and drove straight to Toyota and traded it in I needed a reliable truck. The dealer's service department was great with the problem. But it's the product that really [xxx] and had the potential to be very dangerous. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I was on expressway with the cruise set on 72 miles an hour I heard a loud clunk the engine, of course shut off I go down to the gearshift in the console. It said neutral so close it over to the side of the road got stopped as soon as our momentum stopped and we are completely at a standstill the truck put itself in park. I then tried to restart it and it wouldn’t do anything. I contacted onstar state in my situation and after multiple conversations with them, I disconnected the phone call and contacted my own towing service because we were 51 miles from our home and they would not tell the people there unless I paid for over half of it. They would only tow it to the nearest dealer. We have been a free customer since 1997. We or a family owned electrical contacting business. My truck is my office. I’m in 90% of my day. I elected to take it to the dealer where we purchased it, and we purchased a good portion of our vehicles over the years and helps that it would be repaired in a timely manner.
While pulling out onto a very busy highway in north dallas, I had to "step" on it in order to make the turn. Immediatley after making the turn I went to "step" on it and the truck shifted into neutral with heavy traffic. Luckily I was able to coast to a turning lane safely. Once stopped I was able to place the truck in park. However, after shutting off the truck it was never able to restart. This night was an extremely cold night with subfreezing temperatures. Not being able to start the truck meant no heater and myself and my girlfriend quickly became very cold. After calling onstar we waiting almost 45 minutes for roadside assistance. However, they were only coming to try and jump start the truck and had to request a second roadside assistance to come and tow the vehicle. The vehicle could not be shifted into neutral and a flatbed truck had to be used and the truck had to be drug up onto the tow truck. When I first stopped the truck and shifted it into park, the engine was still running and sounded normal. It just could not be shifted into any gears. However, the gm dealership is telling me the engine seized up and needs to be replaced and could take 4-8 weeks just to locate an engine. Although no one was hurt or injured thankfully, the safety risk when this happened could have been very bad and deadly. Not to mention not being able to have heat during extreme cold temperatures is a safety concern. Had the truck not been able to be parked in a safe area, and not being able to be shifted to neutral, this also could pose a safety risk.
My truck, which has a 6. 2 v8 l87 engine, seized up on the highway while on a road trip. The engine suddenly died with no warning or alerts on the dash. The mechanic told me that the oil pan was full of metal and the engine was completely seized. The engine needs to be replaced entirely at just under 40k miles. I have been diligent in taking the truck in for regular service at the dealership, and I had no indication of any problem with the vehicle until it died on the highway while traveling at 65 mph.
Transmission shutters and shakes and dealer said it’s normal for the silverados to shake and shutter at highway speeds even though it’s brand new . And then got treated horribly for getting it towed in.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the transmission suddenly malfunctioned causing all four wheels to lock up, causing the vehicle to skid. During the failure, the vehicle abruptly decelerated and veered to the left. After the failure, the check engine warning light remained illuminated, and the vehicle went into "limp mode”. The vehicle was driven to the local dealer who diagnosed and determined that the transmission valve body was faulty and needed to be replaced. The transmission valve body was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 38,000.
Transmission control valve body. Known issue on the 10spd transmission. Gm will not do a recall. My truck was in the shop for 5 weeks in March 2024. Coolant control valve. Known issue on these vehicles. Gm will not do a recall. My truck is currently on its 4th week in the shop. And they are telling me it's 2-6 months out for the part. Gm is continuing to manufacture new vehicles while those who already own vehicles are stuck waiting on a backordered part.
Transmission seal failure caused fluid to leak, transfer case had metal present and had to be flushed, multiple electrical issues where there was no sound and buttons on back left of steering wheel wouldn't function, vehicle put itself in neutral when passing and gave a conditions not favorable for shift change when I tried to put it in park. Eventually put itself in park and I was able to get home. Dash went black, ticking sounds quickly escalated to the motor blowing thankfully close to a dealership on 1/2/2025. Still awaiting a timeframe or information on what will happen. Unable to attach video.
During gear down-shift the rear wheels briefly lock up. This event can be duplicated easily at around 45mph, by slowing due to uphill grade or slowing traffic, then upon normal application of throttle to resume course the transmission shifts to next lowest gear (3 or 4, not sure) there occurs a brief and sudden horrendous jerk as the rear wheels lock & skid. The event lasts less than 1/4 sec, but happens multiple times per day as that speed/load condition is frequent. On occasion, the same can occur in a parking lot ~10mph, but isn't as violent. The first occurrence was at mileage 38,000; the vehicle now has 45,000 miles. This appears to be the same issue as NHTSA recall no 24v-797, which does not include my vehicle's production year.
I was going down the interstate and my car engine turned off and almost made me crashed into another car. Chevy dealership took it and after a month they said the engine is locked up so it needs a new engine now.
While attempting to pull out into traffic at a t intersection, the vehicle would not accelerate as I got into roadway and gave me a "reduced acceleration" notice. I was almost hit by a vehicle that was coming towards me. This has happened 3 times now. I have not taken it the dealer yet.
Vehicle was re-started after running into a store, vehicle made loud growling noise from engine compartment and service engine soon light came on. Took truck to dealer for diagnosis and repairs. Was called and informed that the coolant control valve was defective and that no parts were available at this time, and that the expected part arrival dat was the third week of January. When asked if the truck was drivable was told that it wasn't recommended due to engine overheating concern and vehicle going into limp mode and leaving me in an unsafe situation if traveling on a highway or at freeway speeds.
2023 silverado with 10 speed transmission. 20k miles. On 11/30 received "reduced power" message, quickly followed by "service transmission now unable to shift soon", which was quickly followed by "service transmission". Cel came on. Transmission was shifting erratically, and not shifting into higher gears. Clearly a safety concern. Dropped it off at a local dealer on 12/1. Dealer service advisor contacted me 12/12, saying they were finally able to diagnose the problem and the transmission needs a new valve body. However, the valve body is on back order and there is no estimated time for when it will be available. The internet is awash with stories of the same issue with gm's 10 speed transmission in the light duty pick up trucks, leaving owners waiting for weeks, even months before their vehicle is repaired.
1. Coolant control valve failure 3 times within 125,00 miles causing the engine to run hot without overheating indication, losing heater and defrosting capabilities unable to operate safely with windshield freezing, 2. In addition this also caused the engine to run hot enough to burn manifold gasket and cracking manifold creating carbon monoxide to enter through cab vents. $4500 repair cost-that in order to operate safely. 3. Finally on star safety features not available due to module battery dead only after 2 years gps, emergency call and everything else included in this safety feature unavailable $1,000 cost manufacturer or dealer will not recognize any of these due to warranties and expiration.
Vehicle goes into reduced power mode and prevents safe acceleration in traffic and is a major safety concern. The coolant control valve is the issue which has been a problem in the silverado for a few years. This part is also on national backorder.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet silverado. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact restarted the vehicle, but the light failed to turn off. While driving at 45 mph hauling a trailer, the vehicle locked up. The transmission was making an abnormal clunking noise. The vehicle went into safe mode. The vehicle failed to increase over 35 mph. The contact stated that the failure was due to NHTSA campaign number: 24v797000 (power train). The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed the valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, who opened a claim on his behalf. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.
The contact owns a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while driving at undisclosed speeds, the vehicle lost power, jolted, and then stalled. The vehicle rolled while on a hill. The check engine warning light was illuminated. Additionally, while accelerating from a stop, the vehicle stalled again. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and a transmission-related error code was reset; however, the warning light reappeared. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and assisted with the cost of the repair. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.
In August 2024 my 6. 2 Chevrolet silverado motor blew up. I was driving uphill when all the sudden it made a very loud sound like I had floored it and I had not. The engine revved really, really really high red line then it flashed across my dash to turn off the motor and the vehicle just shut itself off. . It left me stranded in the middle of the road and had to be towed to a Chevrolet dealer. It took them approximately 3 weeks to diagnose it as a catastrophic engine failure. And several more weeks to replace the motor, radiator and coolant lines. There was engine pieces in the radiator. Chevrolet refused to reimburse me my full cost of the rental that I had to get until they approved me a loaner. .
