Chevrolet Silverado 1500 owners have reported 24 problems related to adaptive cruise control (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Chevrolet Silverado 1500 based on all problems reported for the Silverado 1500.
These incidents are unrelated: 1) multiple times the adaptive cruise brakes when no object is in front of the vehicle. Almost causing the vehicle behind to rear end you. 2) engine failure while driving.

On 7 or 8 occasions while navigating parking lots/driveway turnaround, I bumped the resume switch on the steering wheel and the truck took off accelerating rapidly from 2-4 mph speed until I disengaged with the brake. Someone with slower reactions or unaware of what is going on is going to get hurt by this. I believe it's tied to collision avoidance system and the adaptive cruise control mode. This system will allow cruise to stay engaged even as it slows you to a halt in, e. G. A rush hour slowdown, but if it slows you to some speed just greater than zero, and the traffic ahead speeds up, it will speed back up to the cruise setting. Similarly, when cruise is disengaged by brake action, but there is still a stored value in cruise control, if you accidentally hit resume at slow speeds the logic is treating it like a traffic situation. So the old 20 or 25mph minimum engagement speed no longer applies. As for why I inadvertently hit resume, it has to do with the raised momentary rocker switch at the 9 oclock position on the steering wheel. If you make a turn with your palm against steering wheel. For example, on a left turn, if the wheel is turning counterclockwise and your left palm is in the 9 o'clock position, it can rub against the raised cruise control rocker triggering the resume function, and off she will go! a flush or recessed button/switch would have been a better choice here. At this point, a software change would be the best solution to ignore the resume function below a certain speed.
The airbag module is not connecting to the rest of the modules. There is a recall on this module in other vins but not mine.

While driving, engine stop and dash had message to put in neutral and hit start button to restart, but dash would gest go dark and did not restart. Vehicle towed to wilson and bell automotive. After get engine reset I was told engine has loud knocking sound and needs to be replaced. I been going to this shop for over 30 years and trust there description. New engine was ordered. Then found out several days later that gm is going to recall my vehicle 2021 Silverado 1500 6. 2 engine due to engine failure.

The afm system is a faulty system that starved my lifters of oil and they ended up collapsing causing a flat spot on my cam. The engine code would come up as a misfire but the code is caused by the flat spot created on the cam by the lifter it's a faulty system that cost me $7,000. My 8spd transmission also has a hard shift from 1st to 2nd pushing the vehicle forward and jerking it when it shifts. The dealer and gm said this was natural with this type of transmissions which we now know is a lie.

The steraring wheel shutters, after a few transmission flushes , it went away but still kicks hard when going through gears. The lifters failed in my vehicle 2 times , rods were bent.
My truck has a 6. 2 liter engine the engine lost power. I have had the adaptive cruise shut down and start back up with no blockage that would cause it, I have had issues with the radio/gps around seven or eight times the gps almost sent me the wrong way on a one way street. The truck is still in the shop.
1. The automatic tailgate opens by itself randomly. It appears to be malfunctioning. I am unable to open it from the tailgate now. When it’s open it continues to attempt to unlatch making the noise. It’s opened while driving. 2. So far I lost a cooler on the highway due to this problem which would cause a road hazard to other drivers. 3. I brought it to the dealer they said it’s not there problem due to my VIN not matching the recall even though there’s a recall for this problem with same year trucks. 4. It has not been inspected due it not being an official recall. 5. No warning lights regarding this issue.
There is an electrical problem in this vehicle. You can be driving down the road with your high beams on, and they will start flashing. Or they will stop working altogether. Dashboard lights will go out until a restart of the vehicle. ( speedometer or tachometer. ) the overhead light can just come on driving without you having touched it. The steering wheel controls will stop working. Until you restart the vehicle. The radio has gone out until restart. I have already had to have the transmission replaced in this truck at 24,000 miles. The dealership keeps telling me about these new issues. That unless they find a code. There isn’t a problem. This is not what I paid 62,000 dollars for. The dealer I bought it from is telling me that they will possibly do a buyback. Yet they keep telling me they will get back to me and they don’t. I called the woman who was supposed to call me back. She says she had a family emergency. Chevrolet needs to back their vehicles.
While using cruise control on freeway at approx 70 mph when headed up hill and the vehicle reaches approx. 2500-3k tach, the cruise will disengage and speed will drop immediately with no warning. Dealer says manual states one may have to use throttle to maintain speed but does not mention cruise dropping off. This is an extreme safety risk when a vehicle is behind you accelerating on the same incline and you suddenly drop speed with no brake lights illuminating.
This weekend while traveling on i95n I got into a wreck with automatic cruise control on. I had been in stop and go traffic for about 20 minutes and was following behind a gatormade hauling trailer for well over a mile with no issues. Suddenly, from a dead stop, the truck attempted to accelerate to its preset speed of 50 mph. I was only one car length away from the trailer and wasn't covering the break. By the time I got my foot on the break, I slammed in the back of the trailer. At no point did the emergency brake warning or any alerts pop up.

On our road trip back home driving on the highway using the adaptive cruise control set to the speed limit and it’s night. Clear night and no traffic or rain. The truck applied brakes hard and dropped about 12 miles per hour. Another hour later same thing happened. I was fortunate to avoid the car behind me. There was nothing on the road ahead of me.
As also reported by another owner in NHTSA id number: 11602844, I have found several times that while driving on I-80 at or near speed limit with adaptive cruise control on and no traffic, no weather, dry pavement, that the truck suddenly applied the brakes hard. There was nothing on or upcoming in the road, the sides of the road were desert and near the road was clear. Over the course of the past year this has happened probably half a dozen times.
While vehicle is in motion the brake system will automatically start to lock up the brakes and then the stabilitrak light will light up on the dash. As well as if cruise control was set to whatever speed the brakes at some point will begin to slowly lock up causing cruise control to disengage and stabilitrak light will turn on. Relating NHTSA campaign 20v603000 gm's number for this recall is n202300860.
It shakes violently and shifts violently.

I was driving eastbound on highway 150 on my way to work. I have adaptive cruise control in my truck and have used it many times before on this exact road with no issues. Traffic was moving slow and the adaptive cruise control was following the car in front of me exactly how it is designed to do (acc can be turned on at speeds as low as 5 mph in this vehicle and can come to a complete stop and restart movement from a complete stop). I drove through a section of this road right after the lake crossing where the morning sun was pretty bright directly facing us for a few seconds. During this time my foot was off of the accelerator and brake as instructed by the vehicle manual for safe operation of the acc system. In these few seconds the truck unexpectedly accelerated aggressively with no warning and before I had a chance to react the truck rear ended another vehicle, pushing it into the car in front of them as well. I have been found liable so far by insurance. I am trying to argue on my behalf. I firmly believe I am not personally liable for this accident. The system in the truck is supposed to fail safe (meaning when meeting uncertain variables, such as low camera visibility, the vehicle should disengage the acc instead of aggressively accelerating with no information of what is in front of it) and it did not in this circumstance. As stated, I had no input to the accelerator or the brake at the time of the accident according to the owners manual safe operation of this system. The vehicle failed to disengage the acc system as it was supposed to and caused an accident I had no time to react to by aggressively accelerating without any warning. The vehicle has been appraised for repair by the insurance company and was found to have $7000 in damages.
Still haven’t received any information on when the retrofit process will be completed.

The adaptive cruise control does not maintain a safe gap to the vehicle in front in order to slow down or stop to avoid hard braking and/or collision. This is especially true when approaching a stopped vehicle, the adaptive cruise control continues at the speed selected and brakes really hard causing the collision warning to activate.
One week prior to the incident my engine had a loud ticking/knocking noise when starting up especially on a cold start, one night before thanksgiving driving to California I had my truck on cruise control 80mph when suddenly without any warning the engine shut off! my touch screen and speed gauge were still on I tried pulling over as quickly as I can with my emergency flashers on, I was almost side struck by trailers passing by me doing so! my truck got towed to the nearest chevy dealer where I was told it was an electrical issue at first, then 3 hours after that call the service team called again telling me they have found metal engine shavings and pieces in my engine while draining my engine oil. Service team told me they contacted gm for a new engine replacement and my truck will be in their shop for a month waiting for delivery and working on my truck. All this damage because of the afm dfm feature in v8 engines and it happening at 7,000 miles it’s unacceptable.
I have a 2016 silverado which was purchased new, the vehicle has now 35k miles. Recently the radio display which contains the intelink and other adaptive controls began randomly going through multiple screens on my dashboard, and touch screen radio screen including digital speedometer turning off and going to random music stations, the radio flickering as if searching for different signals , and going through different screens, blue tooth, ac, radio volume going extremely loud, driver info screen going blank , etc. . . Causing a horrible distraction , and will not turn off a search on the internet shows multiple gm vehicles for the years 2016-2020 with the same problem I have contacted local dealer who states car is not under warranty anymore. This is definitely a safety issue on this vehicle and I would like to report this to the nhtsi.

Having issues where steering will lock up while driving at slow speeds. Air conditioner will stop radio will go out will get a message about stabalink and driving assist may have stopped. Will be like this for a few minutes and then I get control again. Also while driving on the highway I notice this to.

Hearing unusual powertrain winning , lugging on a hill to the point of shuttering before it downshifts, and then very harsh shift. Very harsh shift from first to second gears, and then again on downshift from second to first. Today 11/19/2020 I had the cruise control set at 70 mph, and once it started lugging down it downshifted and took off like the engine kept running wild. I tapped the brake pedal to cancel the cruse control, the brake pedal had no effect in canceling the cruse this vehicle just kept running wild. I even pushed the main cruise power button on the steering wheel foe what seemed like an eternity, still run as if it was possessed. After about 45 seconds, and just as I made up my mind that I had to kill the ignition switch, it calmed back down to the normal harsh shift, but didn't run wild. I also noticed that the engine rpm's gauge is not steady, and moves radically I have contacted my local dealer in the past with my concerns of a harsh shift issue, as well as the shuttering and luging down on the hills, and they assured me that they haven't had any issues with their transmission. These trucks need to be looked at very closely before someone has a catastrophic accident. I have an appointment on the 5 of December 2020, and you would think with the safety factor of my concerns, that they would try getting me in sooner, rather then put me off over two weeks.
Transmission shudder.
