1 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2012

Brake lining has premature rust, in which, caused it to leak and failed to stop vehicle. I was the fourth vehicle to pull up to a red light, when I noticed that I didn't have any brakes. The speed limit is 45 mph at this road location and I was trying to slow my acceleration to come to a stop. The brake went to the floor on my first attempt to slow down and come to a stop. I did not have time to stop my truck before hitting the smaller car in front of me! I swung my truck to the burm of the road and passed all the vehicles stopped at the red light, eventually going through the light by way of the burm of the road. My driver side mirror was broken in this incident. The brakes did slow me down and allow me to come to a stop with the use of my emergency brake but, it was after my vehicle passed all the cars stopped at the red light and me stopping in the middle of the intersection. Lucky there was no cars in the way! the brakes had some stopping power but, were not enough for this size truck and the pedal did not engage till it was just about to the floor. Broken lining has been replaced by inspection mechanic but, stated he will not inspect this vehicle until all the lines are replaced. He has stated that all the lines have premature rust and could break at any time and will not take the responsiblilty to say they are okay to pass inspection. I also, had to replace all 4 factory brake rotors at 14,752 miles. The brake pads wore out prematurely and when I had my mechanic replace them, I was told that the rotors were rusted and pitted prematurely. I still have them, I can't beleive how bad they deterorated! I was surprised with such little mileage that the rotors and brakes went bad.

2 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2009

2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd, 6. 0 4wd LS. Current mileage: 94,000 miles. Vehicle is well out of warranty. In iowa. 1st owner. Brake failure or really spongy brakes. Requires multiple pedal pumps to slow vehicle down or applying brake pedal to the floor to stop at stop sign in city driving. I removed the front tires and inspected the pads and rotors. Front pads had 75%+ material on them. The inside of each rotor had 50% contact surface on them. I took them into o'reillys in council bluffs, iowa where they turned them down enough to clean up both sides of rotors. Rotor were rusting and flaking. I have not inspected rear rotors or pads as of yet. Was told by technician that Chevrolet had problems with rotor. After replacing turned rotor and installing new pads brakes go unchanged. Inspection of rear rotors and pads will occur 22 June 2009. With numerous complaints concerning a major safety issue, gm/Chevrolet should invest in dealing with correcting this issue to avoid losing their loyal customers. I understand that a few here and there, but when multiple chevy site say the exact same thing. . . . How many of us silverado owners haven't posted on here??? I love my silverado and will try to keep it until the wheels fall off. . . Ok wrong choice of words. . . . But if there is a means to correct this, whether if it is on the 1500 to the 3500hd, especially brake system, gm/Chevrolet needs to roger up and fix this! having brakes are important, unless your a crash test dummy!!!!.

3 Brake Disc Pads problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2008

Smoke from right rear wheel. Took to dealer stated axle oil seal leak onto brake pads and rotor. Stated left rear rotor needs replacement due to corrosion and being too thin. Problem these brakes and rotors have never been replaced with 41000 miles. How can the rotor be to thin turn when it was never turned before. Dealer stated will have to buy a $380 dollar rotor out of pocket. Contacted Chevrolet assistance they stated not covered on my extended gmpp warranty. Why are other vehicles like this getting there rotors replaced under warranty? vehicle sat at dealer from April 10 to April 25 with no work done.
