Speedometer is behaving erratically. Sometimes it will read within 5 or 10 mph of actual speed (sometimes high and sometimes low) and other times it will read 0 or 100+. This has caused me to unknowingly travel beyond the posted speed limits at times and is creating an unsafe driving environment. I have contacted Chevrolet and they are not willing to address this issue.
Speedometer on a 2004 chevy silverado giving false readings, or no readings at all.
Speedometer and tachometer became erratic, then failed completely. After researching, I found that this problem is common in Chevrolet / GMC trucks. It appears that this is a defective part and that Chevrolet / GMC is aware of it. My local dealer wants $500. 00, a cost that Chevrolet should pay.
My 2004 chevy silverado's speedometer has failed to work properly. It will read 120 mph when I'm going 20 mph. Dealer said it needs a new speedometer that will cost about $500. 00. In researching the problem I found this to be a very common in all newer gm vehicles from about 40-50 thousand miles, just outside the warranty. There should be a recall, as this problem can be potentially dangerous-you have no idea how fast you are going. Very disappointed in gm, will rethink when I buy new vehicle.
2004 2500 hd Chevrolet truck crew cab - erratic speedometer behavior. When I "googled" this - I got tons of remarks with people having this problem. To-date, no recall from Chevrolet. This is a safety hazard!!.
On first start in the morning of that date my speedometer went up to 65 mph and stayed there ever since. I have no way to go within the speed limit.
The speedometer on my 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd is not working properly. With the vehicle turned off it is reading 50mph right now. I also do not get accurate speed readings while driving, which could lead to me driving to fast/slow and possibly causing injury to myself or others.
The tachometer registers incorrectly. The rpm indicator will only advance. With the engine off, it registers 5,000 rpms. Also, the speedometer operates erratically. At times it indicates a lower speed than actual or no speed at all. None of these may be a safety hazard, but it makes compliance with posted speed limits difficult.
The needle on my speedometer is not registering the proper speed, some days it just gets stuck at the 120 mph and doesn't move. I have been told by many gm dealerships that this is a known issue for this truck. Why isn't there a recall? this is not safe because I have no idea how fast I'm traveling. I have not replaced this part as of yet.
Speedometer readings are inaccurate. Gm issued special warranty coverage for vehicles with less than 70,000 miles. My issue was reported to the dealer at 58,000 miles, but was not documented in their system. Speedometer readings are erratic. Sometimes accurate, sometimes 50% or more less than actual speed. Inaccuracy has increased over the last year.
