1 Cruise Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 06/21/2018

While driving my vehicle on a city street at approximately 45 miles per hour, I set the cruise control to maintain the 45 mile per hour speed. After less than 60 seconds, the cruise control cause the vehicle to accelerate rapidly to 85 miles per hour. Stepping on the brake at first did not cancel the cruise control. When it did finally cancel, I continue to drive manually. The cruise control then took over again and cause the vehicle to accelerate rapidly, exceeding the speed limit. Once again, the brakes were applied and the cruise control cancelled. The cruise control was turned off at the main switch on the turn signal stem. Later on, the cruise control was turned back on and tested again with the same results. After the third attempt to set the cruise control at 45 mph, the cruise would not set at all. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop. They were not able to find any specific electrical problems. But they did indicate that the cruise control module itself would probably be at fault. If the cruise control switch is left in the on position, but the cruise is not set, it may randomly take over the throttle and accelerate or sometimes hold its own speed for several minutes at different rates of speed. This creates a hazardous situation for all occupants of the vehicle along with others that may be in the path of the truck when it randomly accelerates. As of the time of this writing, a solution has not been found to correct this situation.

2 Cruise Control problem of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 05/07/2017

While driving the vehicle the check engine light comes on, the stabilitrak light comes on and the vehicle shuts off. Within seconds the engine restarts. The most common occurrence is when traveling on bumpy roads. When this happens at freeway speeds, the same will happen, and the cruise control will disconnect, and cannot be reset until around 30 minutes. Again, the engine will die and immediately restart. This is happening much more frequently lately. The vehicle has approximately 95,000 miles on the odometer.

3 Cruise Control problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

On 09/22/2014 at approximately 1610hrs I was traveling south on I-95 in the state of maine. I attempted to exit the highway near sidney, me. I tapped on the brake to cancel the cruise control. As I braked my vehicle attempted to speed up. When I applied the brake my vehicle down shifted and attempted to maintain its speed. This situation nearly caused me to have an accident and took aggressive braking to stop the vehicle. On 09/23/2014 I attempted to have this situation documented at frank galos chevorlet in saco, me. They refused to document the problem. I called general motors at 1-800-222-1020 and had the problem documented. Complaint # sr 71-1363375289. This incident could have been a near death or serious injury accident.

4 Cruise Control problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 03/02/2010

I own a 2008 chevy Silverado 2500, 4wd, duramax with allison trans . The problem is with the cruise control. Between speeds of 30-45 mph, the cruise will not hold the speed steady going up a modest hill. Rpms fluctuate 500-800 rpm causing the speed to surge upward and then back off only to repeat continuously while going up hill. Had it to dealer twice who said it was normal. Complained to gm hotline at 1-800-222-1020 and was given svc req # 71-806441267. Approximately 10 days later on March 2, 2010, a district rep called me and told me that gm said it was normal and nothing to be done. I complained that this was unsafe, that I never had a vehicle that had a cruise that did this. He was sympathetic but unable to resolve problem. It may not be a widespread problem in that I have a friend living in another state, who has a clone of my vehicle (bought from same dealer) and he states that his truck does not do this. This situation is unsafe and totally unacceptable.
