1 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 03/03/2026

I was driving down the road at approximately 55 mph when all of a sudden, my truck decelerated and a warning signal displayed on my dash indicating my speed was being forcibly reduced to approximately 30 mph. Fortunately, I was on a rural road versus the interstate. I pulled over and had an obd2 reader. The reader indicated I had a p-2138 error code from a "voltage correlation error between the two accelerator pedal position (app) sensors". I was able to limp along with emergency flashers to return home. After driving approximately 10 miles, the "issue" resolved itself. I have since replaced the gas petal assembly after learning this is a common failure on many years of the chevy silverado series.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 01/26/2026

When driving, between the speeds of 40-50mph, the wheels would lock up without warning. This happened 4 times during the month of January, sometimes in 4wd. This occurred at speed when the vehicle seemed to be upshifting. Control of the vehicle would be lost during the lockup as the wheels would stop rotation entirely and rather violently. Check engine light came on after the 4th incident, reducing power and a code of p0747 "pressure control solenoid "a" stuck on". The transmission valve body was repaired by the local Chevrolet dealership under powertrain warranty. This is a known issue on previous years of this truck with the same transmission but has not been expanded to cover this vehicle. Thankfully, I was able to maintain contorol and was not in traffic when this occurred. I notified the dealer that the vehicle was shifting very hard during the last visit but no codes or issues were found at that time indicating an issue.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 11/17/2025

I own a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd duramax diesel with approximately 100,300 miles. The truck began displaying a “service emissions system” warning and a countdown message that in a certain number of miles the vehicle will be limited in speed (for example to 65 mph). Gm’s own duramax diesel owner’s supplement explains that when a “service emission system” message appears it is accompanied by a distance-until-speed-limit countdown and that the truck will progressively limit speed first to about 65 mph and then to about 55 mph if the condition is not corrected, telling the owner to see the dealer. This creates a safety risk because the derate can occur while driving on highways or rural roads, where an unexpected limit on maximum speed can interfere with merging, passing, and keeping up with traffic. This is our only vehicle, and we must use it for important medical appointments, including cardiology and surgery-related visits. The condition started only about 300 miles beyond gm’s 5-year / 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. I opened a case with Chevrolet / gm corporate (service request no. Xxx) and took the truck to sons Chevrolet in columbus, georgia on November 17, 2025 for this issue and a rear wheel lockup recall. The dealer kept the truck from about 9:00 a. M. To 3:00 p. M. And indicated they might need to keep it for at least two more days, but I was not given a clear written explanation of the diagnostic trouble codes or a firm repair plan. Because gm’s own manuals describe this “service emission system” message together with speed-limit countdowns, and because the vehicle can actively limit speed on the road if the fault is not resolved, I am concerned this represents a broader emissions/derate defect on late-model silverado hd duramax trucks. I request that NHTSA review similar complaints and consider whether further investigation or a safety recall is warranted. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated that while slowing down and coming to a stop, the accelerator pedal was depressed while in drive; however, the vehicle started to roll backwards. The contact depressed the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from rolling backwards, and the rpm became elevated to 5,000 rpm. The contact immediately turned off the vehicle to prevent the rpm from continuing to increase. The vehicle was shifted to park, restarted, and then shifted to drive(d) and the brakes released. While releasing the brake pedal, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was immediately turned off and towed to the residence. The dealer was informed of the failure of the clutch pack, which was welded together from friction. The dealer scheduled an appointment; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 09/02/2025

I am writing to express my serious concern and frustration regarding the unresolved recall on my 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 (VIN: [xxx] ). Despite multiple visits to multiple dealerships, I was repeatedly told that the necessary parts to complete the recall repair were on back order and instructed to “wait for parts. ” no interim solution or assistance was ever offered. As a result of this delay, my vehicle broke down without warning, leaving me stranded on the side of the road. This created a hazardous situation and significant disruption to my day. To make matters worse, I had to pay out of pocket to have the truck towed to a repair shop in an effort to get it operational—an expense I should never have incurred given the known recall and repeated attempts to have the issue corrected by Chevrolet. I have been a loyal Chevrolet owner and have always trusted the brand for its quality and dependability. However, this delay and lack of proactive support is causing significant inconvenience and eroding that trust. This situation is unacceptable for several reasons: 1. Safety risk and recall obligation: Chevrolet acknowledged the defect by issuing a recall, yet I have been forced to operate a vehicle that does not meet your own safety standards for months. 2. Repeated service attempts with no resolution: I followed the proper process and visited an authorized dealer multiple times, only to be turned away each time with no solution beyond “wait for parts. ” 3. Breakdown and financial loss: the vehicle failure and subsequent towing expense are a direct consequence of Chevrolet’s inability to provide timely parts or alternative accommodations. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 05/11/2025

Component/system: the allison 10?speed (10l1000) transmission valve body catastrophically failed on may?11,?2025, while driving Sunday afternoon down galveston seawall blvd. The truck abruptly dropped from 45?mph into limp mode in heavy traffic, forcing me to pull into the bike lane to avoid being rear?ended. The vehicle remains at classic Chevrolet (galveston,?TX) awaiting the oem valve body—which is on national backorder—and the complete transmission assembly is likewise unavailable. The failed valve body and transmission are available for inspection upon request. Safety risk: unexpected limp mode and gear lock?up in heavy traffic create an immediate risk of rear?end collisions or side impacts as surrounding drivers have no warning of sudden deceleration or loss of drive. Reproduction/confirmation: classic Chevrolet diagnosed and confirmed the failed valve body on may?12,?2025. Their service advisor and my assigned gm case agent (#70179205) have both acknowledged the defect but report no parts available for repair. Inspections: the vehicle has been inspected by classic Chevrolet under warranty. Gm customer care has reviewed my service orders and correspondence. No police or insurance inspections occurred, as no collision ensued—however, the roadside inspection at classic Chevrolet confirmed the mechanical failure. Warnings/symptoms: there were no prior warning lamps, messages, or symptoms before the failure. The valve body failure occurred without any advance indication.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 11/20/2024

While using adaptive cruise control, the system can detect a vehicle and immediately apply the brakes or slow down. In some cases, it may detect a vehicle (the vehicle icon appears) and trigger an immediate red collision light flash, followed by automatic braking. However, during these events, there were no cars ahead of the vehicle. There was no obstruction of sensors or cameras, and the incidents occurred in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and clear days, both during the day and night. If the road is slick or slippery, this could potentially lead to a loss of control. Additionally, if another vehicle is following closely behind, it could result in a collision.

The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 10/01/2024

In 2024, I noticed that my truck was experiencing rough shifts. It felt as if the back wheels were jerking over uneven ground, even though the vehicle was on a flat surface. In November 2024, my sister sent me an article about general motors' massive recall due to rear wheel lock-up, which increased the risk of crashes. I contacted gm and learned that my truck was part of the recall. I reported the issues my truck was exhibiting, and gm instructed me to reach out to my dealer about the problem. However, I was informed that they did not have the parts to fix the issue and had no idea when they would receive them. I asked gm if they would provide me with a rental vehicle, but they declined, stating that if they offered a rental to me, they would have to provide one for others as well, which was not feasible due to the large number of affected vehicles. I explained that my truck is my daily driver for work, and I frequently transport my grandchildren in it. Driving the truck was hazardous given the issues it was already exhibiting. I was told to contact my dealer, and since my truck was under warranty, they should provide me with a rental. When I requested to speak with a manager, I was informed that they would only reiterate the same information. I then contacted my dealer, sapaugh gm country, located at 1435 mcnutt st. , herculaneum, mo. I was informed that they do not have the parts. But they did a minor tweak which has caused more damage to my powertrain and engine.

The infotainment center seems to malfunction and push buttons on it's own or not respond to input, which seems related to a more serious problem I experienced where the gauge cluster was not reading anything out when I was driving, including not knowing what speed I was at or what gear I was in. I had to turn the vehicle off several times and restart it several times before the issue resolved.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 12/20/2018

When vehicle is accelerating anywhere from 30-50 mph, the truck loses power for several seconds, and starts sputtering or chugging. The rpm on the dash starts bouncing up and down. This goes on for several seconds and truck slows down. It then goes away and can continue driving. However, when towing trailers, the effect is only increased and the truck slows down even more.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 08/22/2018

Check engine light came on and "low engine power" flashed where the odometer is. This caused the rpm's not to go over 2800. Code reader claims O2 sensors or throttle control module or catalytic convertor issues. We discovered it was none of the above. To fix problem change 3 relays located under hood in fuse box. Relay #8864. Then clear codes, should fix issue unless code persists. Relays will cause a fire if not changed out ASAP.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 07/18/2017

2011 duramax diesel Silverado 2500. When changing lanes in lake tahoe in heavy traffic engine suddenly went full throttle. I stood on brakes with both feet as the truck was burning rubber and nearly rear ended a handicapped van. I shut the engine off and the transmission slammed to a lower gear. Once I let traffic clear and re-started the computer reset and the throttle was fine. I managed to hook up my RV and head home but was careful not to accelerate very hard hoping it would not happen again. Truck is now in a local diesel repair shop being evaluated. Engine was revving close to 5,000 rpm. Thought for sure we were about to get in a serious accident or hit some people as there was very heavy vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

While pulling a horse trailer up a small mountain, heard alarm, engine lost power and reduced engine power message came up as well as ck eng light. Vehicle would not go over 40 mph initially then went down to 30 mph. Struggled 15 miles at 20-30 mph to get it to my residence. Turned off for 15-20 minutes. Turned back on, ran normally but ck eng light was still on. Next morning, started up, ck eng light was off. Took to dealer. Said there were no codes and they had no idea what was wrong. I had to travel on a dual highway, pulling a horse trainer at 20-30 mph with my flashers on. Also had to turn across dual highway on at grade intersections, not knowing of the truck was going to have enough acceleration to get across the highway.

Failure Date: 03/10/2015

I purchased my 2005 Chevrolet 2500hd duramax in may of 2015. A week later I was pulled over for speeding 10 over. My truck showed I was driving 55 mph. I now have a speeding ticket $114. I contacted gm about the issue and they said my VIN# was not qualified for the recall and I would be paying out of pocket ($535 including labor). The part alone is $350. Now at the end of the day I will owe $649 because of gm's mistake. I love gm's products, however they do not stand up to there mistakes which will make me think again before buying one.

2005 chevy Silverado 2500 hd duramax, speedometer stuck on 23 mph. Known issue with faulty part, the instrument cluster stepper motor. Gm will not cover replacement. Faulty parts used from 2003-2007. Class action suit only covered certain VIN numbers and no recall was done. Safety issue/concern. Was informed by dealership that if we had brought it in 8 months earlier it would have been repaired at no cost. Never received notification of potential for this to happen. There should have been a recall. . .

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 07/18/2013

Depressed brake pedal while hooking to trailer preparing to haul farm equipment. The pedal went to the floor and I found fliud running down the frame of the truck checked lines and found burst line and all lines looked terribly rusted/rotten. This could have been classified as a near miss since I was on a gravel hillside and had I been hooked to the trailer I would have had a vehicle totally out of control merging into traffic.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 01/18/2012

While driving, the check engine light comes on and "reduced engine power" is illuminated on the dash. Stepping on the gas does nothing. The vehicle just coasts along and runs rough. I have to pull over and shut it off for a few seconds. Sometimes it doesn't clear the problem right away and needs to be restarted several times. There is no rhyme or reason as to when this happens. It happens almost every day, on busy expressways or on main roads and side roads. The gas pedal loses communication with the throttle body. This is nerve wracking when driving 65 mph on the expressway and all of a sudden the vehicle wont respond to stepping on the gas pedal. Trying to get over several lanes to the side of the road is dangerous when there is no acceleration. It is also bad when on a busy, main road, the vehicle "acts up". I have to pull over, blocking traffic, until I can get it going again.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

The speedometer gives false readings. For example, when traveling at approx. 30mph, it will read 95mph. At other times, it will "bottom out" going past 120mph, when actual speed is nowhere near that. When stopped at a light, or even with engine turned off, it will not return to the zero mark. All other guages in the cluster appear to perform normally.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 03/09/2011

I own a 2005 Chevrolet silverado 3/4 ton truck. The speedometer is stuck in the 6 o'clock position, and won't move, the odometer doesn't work, and now the fuel guage quit working. I can't tell how much fuel I have by using the guage, and without an odometer or tripometer I can't even use math to figure it out. Plus I have no idea how fast I'm going. I hear this isn't an isolated problem, why hasn't there been a recall on this?.
