The contact owns a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 2500. The contact stated while stopped at a stop light the engine would rev up to 2400 rpms. The contact has to shift the vehicle into neutral to stop the vehicle from accelerating forward. The contact has taken the vehicle to the dealer 20 times in the last six month regarding the racing rpms. The dealer has changed the main computer twice along with the throttle positioning switch, the idle air flow sensor and the manifold intake gasket. None of these repairs has remedied the issue. The contact feels this vehicle is non-drivable and the manufacturer should issue a recall regarding the racing rpms. The failure mileage was 146,000.

This happened in the year 2008. Everything was fine but when I woke up the following day, the speedometer was pointing at 120mph. In other words, it was a direct reflection from its initial point, which was when it was pointing at or below 0mph.

The gauge cluster, including speedometer, failed at 70,000 miles. Nhtsa has received numerous complaints about this model. General motors will not replace the gauge cluster after the warranty expires, even though this is clearly a design problem as evidenced by the thousands of complaints.
Speedometer does not register the proper speed when vehicle is in motion. Speedometer registers from 0 mph to near accurate speeds. The inaccurate readings could result in unsafe operation of the vehicle that could result in risk of injury to self and others by not being able to maintain speed limit requirements.

Speedometer began to jump around and it was impossible to tell how fast I was going. Dealer told me it wasn't a recall issue, but too many gm owners were having the same problems.
: the contact stated that on several occasions while driving 60 mph on dry roads, the vehicle engine light illuminated. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal, however the vehicle would not accelerate. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and shut off. After two minutes, the vehicle was restarted, and resumed functioning properly. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the dealer was unable to determine the problem.

Speedometer needle does not record speed accurately, resulting in vehicle traveling either much faster, or much slower than the speed indicated (onboard computer indicated I was traveling at 92 mph, while the speedometer recorded 66; another time the onboard computer indicated I was traveling 56 mph while the speedometer indicated 87). Eventually, the speedometer needle pegs to 120 mph and stays there. In researching this issue, I have seen literally hundreds of complaints of this same problem. The local dealer said they have been fixing a lot of these speedometer problems; problem is with speedometer needle only (the counter weight for the needle, or the problem with the speedometers in 2003 and up chevy trucks is caused by a tiny broken gear in the actual meter movement. The gear is a small piece of cylindrical metal surrounded by a plastic gear - the gear is held in place by 3 plastic ribs. One of the ribs cracks causing an offset. If you picture the gear as a child's top - when you normally spin the top it spins straight up and down. Because the rib breaks it causes the gear to be out of balance and thus the rotation then "wobbles". This causes the gear to get stuck at various locations. Gm knows of this problem. . 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 hd (also many other complaints were relative to silverado 1500).
