As I approached a stop sign, I applied the brakes and the brake pedal went soft and then to the floor. Immediately followed by a brake system warning and a brake light on the instrument panel. I got the vehicle stopped on the side of the road and checked the brake fluid reservoir. It was empty. It had been snowing that day and I noticed a puddle of fluid had formed in the fresh snow under the driver's side of the vehicle, just inboard and aft of the front left wheel. When I crawled underneath and looked I found what appears to be severely rotted brake lines. I have never had a solid brake line fail on me before and was quite shocked at how progressed the corrosion was. I take care of my truck and it gets washed and serviced regularly. With that it gets used as a truck as well. I feel that the corrosion was excessive and perhaps is the result of a material flaw/cheap materials used. I shudder to think what the outcome would have been had I been towing my horse trailer or my camper that day.

Driving home down two lane road at 35 mph. Came to curve and slow traffic ahead. Went to apply brakes like normally, they failed. Pedal traveled all the way to floor with little to no stopping effects on vehicle. Vehicle is a 5 spd standard. I was able to down shift and apply park brake to slow vehicle. I was unable to stop completely and had to drive off the road into the road side ditch to avoid a collision with the stopped traffic. Once stopped I got out to check for damage. No cosmetic damage was sustained to the vehicle. I did see brake fluid dripping from under the truck on the driver side. Closer look revealed that the brake line had rust completely in half and bleed the brake system dry. Noticed that the other lines were in similar condition. They all seem to be severely rusted at the point where the brake lines is retained by a green plastic clip on the upper portion of the frame rail. Had vehicle towed home, replaced visible bad lines. Two months later brake section in rear of truck hid by undercoating failed as well. Thankfully was parked when it happened this time. Truck is well maintained and cleaned and waxed seasonally. The under side of this truck is horrible. There in not a place on it that isn't rust. Shouldn't have this from a us made product. I have older vehicles from the 60's that have sat for year and look almost new underneath. Many other people have had the same problems with these vehicles. I just hope that nobody gets hurt or killed because there vehicles rusts out and causes critical safety systems to fail. I also hope that the NHTSA will take the steps necessary to make people aware and help to resolve this issue. Shameful gm owner.

My brake lines failed twice. Once in 2008 and today 8/8/11. Failure due to lines rusting (cheap metal tubing) and bursting when brakes applied. Mechanic even stated he couldn't beleive that gm was using inferior metal tubing. He showed me a piece of the line and it snapped into two pieces, I mean it didn't even bend it just snapped.

I purchased some after-market nerf/step bars to fit my new 2009 Chevrolet Silverado 2500hd crew cab pickup. The steps were installed on Friday 06/04/2010 according to the manufacturers instructions. The steps were made by dee zee inc. Of des moines, IA and the model number of the product is 17053c. On 06/06/2010 at approximately 2230 hours, my wife was placing a two year old child into her child safety seat while standing on the plastic step area of the step bar. The plastic step area broke from the metal step bar, causing my wife to fall to the ground. On her way to the ground, both of my wife's upper shins of her legs struck the truck floor and the step bars, causing a large amount of bruising to her legs. I removed the step bars the next day and have contacted the retailer for a return and refund of the product.

: the contact stated while driving 55 mph on dry roads, the vehicle vibrated roughly. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the dealer determined that the cause of the problem was a beam frame shake; meaning that that the bed of the truck was too long, causing the frame to flex and vibrate while moving. The consumer was told the problem could not be fixed. Uddated.
