7 Tire problem of the 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 05/28/2020

While operating vehicle, entering interstate I started to experience uncontrollable vibration in the rear of my vehicle. The passenger rear tire had suddenly lost tread without warning. The tire in question is lt275/65r20 bfgoodrich all terrain t/a ko2. Luckily I was able to remain in control of vehicle otherwise this could have easily resulted in loss of control of vehicle and worst case fatality. The tire in which lost tread caused $3400-3700 in damages, left me without a full set of tires that were at only half life and a vehicle that has sat for a month and a half due to said damages. To this date michelin north America has not followed through to right this wrong in its products. This incident occurred on may 28th and was handled in a matter of hours on my end. Michelin has continuously dragged their feet through the entire process which took them a month and a half to come to the conclusion that it was not their problem but my problem. The customer service that was contacted was on average hard to work with and provided very little direction and insight that this would be resolved in a timely manner. When being transferred to the claims department it was an even worse experience with very little communication, individuals that rarely answered phone calls and staff that has no care for the customers that rely on michelin products.

9 Tire problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 03/20/2017

I have been trying to resolve this matter with nitto and have had the tires inspected by one of there distributors at their request. It was determined that the tire separation that is occurring appears to be a manufacturing defect according to the inspector. This is the fourth tire from this same manufacturer to fall apart and at approx 18000 miles with this set. It is a huge concern as they show no signs of wear or defect until they are about to fail. Fortunately, I have become an expert at feeling the irregularities while driving and have now started inspecting the tires immediately before my life is threatened. This is a real problem that I was hoping to get the tires, I saved two of them, back to nitto for examination. They initially seemed very interested after hearing the news from their inspector, but my attempts to contact them have been ignored and they have failed to follow up as promised. I was forced to replace one tire already due to my location away from home at time of incident and while traveling home I felt the other tire start to go and yes this was also inspected. I will now replace all of my tires yet again (with a different manufacturer this time) for simple fear of failure and injury or death. I felt at minimum you should be made aware of this situation in case others have been injured due to their faulty products. It bothers me greatly that they would not want to have these returned for evaluation. I wasn't requesting any warranty or compensation, so it's not about money for me.

13 Tire problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 01/21/2015

Uniroyal laredo hd/h lt265/75 r15 had a tread separation that caused considerable sheet metal damage within and behind the right rear wheel well of my chevy Silverado 2500 hd pickup. The incident occurred at 60 mph while I was towing a travel trailer. I never lost control of the vehicle and was able to bring it safely to a controlled stop. The tire was one of four installed new by the auto dealer in early 2012 when I purchased the truck used. The tire had approximately 17,000 miles of use when the separation occurred. I always kept the tire inflated to the truck and tire manufacturers' recommended 80 psi and had just inflated the tire to that pressure (it was at 74 psi before I topped it off) three days earlier, before starting my trip. I noticed a recall of tires of similar vintage in the uniroyal laredo hd/h lt 245/75 r16 series, and I am curious if many tread separations have also been reported for the 265/75 r16 series or if this is a one off incident.

14 Tire problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 08/21/2014

On June 7, 2014, we were driving our 2005 chevy silverado hd westbound through kansas on i70. A strong vibration forced us to exit. The automotive technician identified that the driver's side front tire had slipped a belt. We purchased a new tire (no firestone available). All tires were rotated and balanced. In August 2014, a similar vibration was noticed. On August 21, 2014, after an extensive, multi-point inspection, it was determined that the driver's rear tire had slipped a belt. Replacement necessary. Of the remaining two firestone tires, one appears to be from the same batch (corresponding dot#) as the driver's rear tire that was just removed. Replacement recommended. The passenger front tire appears to be from a different batch, but will be replaced. (unfortunately, we have not been unable to locate a record of the dot# from the tire replaced in June 2014. ) firestone has initially denied replacement/compensation to the automotive business performing the repairs.

34 Tire problem of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado 2500

Failure Date: 03/30/2010

Complete sudden tire failure sigma tire stampede radial as lt265r75/16, dot upw8 twt 3206 cp g04l the tire had about 28000 miles on it while mounted on my Chevrolet 2500 four wheel drive crew cab truck right front wheel, and had 1/3 to 1/2 of the original tread remaining. I was on I-26 in south carolina traveling at about 70 mph. I felt a very slight vibration, just slightly different than normal road vibration and about 15 seconds later, the right front tire completely disassembled. The tread separated from the tire body between the two steel belts. Fortunately I was in the right lane in light traffic, and was able to bring the truck under control without hitting anything, or rolling over. The tire was inflated to manufacturer's recommendations, and I had hit nothing that would have caused the tread separation. I had stopped for fuel about 20 minutes earlier, and the tires looked normal at that time. I was not hauling a load, or pulling a trailer at the time. In roughly a million miles or driving I have never had a tire fail like this, and don't ever want another failure like it. I have always had some sort of warning of an incipient failure. The tires were on the truck when I bought it about one and one-half years ago, so I don't know where they were purchased. I had the truck aligned twice, and the tires rotated as part of normal maintenance. The separated tread caused about $4000 damage to my vehicle. I have contacted sigma product liability and filed a report with them.
