7 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 03/31/2025

Transmission unexpectedly down shifted hard. Vehicle had to be towed- high rpm/low speed/high transmission temps. Dealer stated this is a known problem with this transmission - control valve body. Transmission down shifted hard causing rear tires to chirp. Force on down shift was intense at 25mph. It was so intense my wife and I thought our vehicle was rear-ended. This is a huge safety issue. This could have been tragic if I was traveling at higher speeds or towing my 5th wheel trailer. Per dealer - this is a known transmission issue with gm/Chevrolet. No replacement parts are available. My vehicle has been sitting at the dealership for five weeks now. There were no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms prior to failure. To side on caution, gm/Chevrolet needs to recall these vehicles before someone gets seriously hurt and/or killed. I'm told gm/Chevrolet/allison replaced metal balls with plastic balls in this valve control body and heat is shrinking the plastic balls causing the problem.

This has happened one time before as well.

9 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 01/21/2025

Vehicle went into limp mode (max 3rd gear and about 45mph) while entering the interstate pulling a 30' 5th wheel camper. Luckily was in a construction zone so the speed limits was posted at 55 so no one took me out. Got off the next offramp and took vehicle to chevy dealership and they said a control solenoid valve body in the transmission failed. All parts on nationwide backorder with no approximation of updated part. Looked into this online and it looks like it's been an issue for 4 years plus.

10 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 01/21/2025

This is regarding 24v797. A software update to "monitor" for transmission valve failure is not a resolution to a problem that could pose a sever risk to my safety on a very expensive truck.

The contact stated that while driving at 62 mph during snow weather and switching lanes; the accelerator pedal was depressed, and both the rear wheels had locked. The vehicle spun out of control and traveled into the center lane of a two-lane road and crashed into a snow embankment where it came to a stop. No injuries were sustained. No warning light illuminated. Prior to the crash, the contact stated that the transmission was slipping and making abnormal noises where it was taken to a dealer for the transmission was inspected and replaced due to metal shaving intrusion. 17 Power Train problem of the 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 10/31/2024

My 2022 chevy silverado has been to 4 different GMC/Chevrolet dealerships since August 2024 and is currently broken down in indiana at sauers Buick GMC although, it has been to 4 different dealerships to confirm there is a faulty part of the transmission, part # 24048701 a body control valve, I have been on the waiting list since August 2024 for this part at 4 different dealers ships some days it drives fine, and others it will flash a message that it is in reduced power mode and it will not shift properly at this point there is no parts available, so I have continued to drive my truck since I am making payments on it. It broke down and would not shift into gear on October 31, 2024 in indiana. At that point it flashed an error message that the transmission was hot. I called for a tow truck and had aaa tow it to the closes GMC dealer today is November 14, 2024, it has been at the same dealership for 2 weeks with no eta from the dealership or GMC corporate as to when it will be fixed. Since it has been undriveable for 2 weeks, what is my course of action? since the body control valve part # 24048701, is not available, I am seeking a full transmission replacement which I am also waiting for an answer on.

18 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 10/28/2024

The transmission has been replaced for almost $10,000. 00.

19 Power Train problem of the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 09/11/2024

Transmission lock up traveling 45 miles an hour while acceleration up modest uphill grade pulling a 3000 pound trailer. The lockup was severe enough to cause passengers to lunge forward with seatbelt engagement. There was no loss of control of the vehicle; however, we did stop the vehicle to inspect it with no damage observed. We expected to see some. This event would have caused a likely loss of control of the vehicle if the lockup was for longer duration. Vehicle also had prior hard shifts that are still occurring. These hard shifts usually occur in the lower gears with acceleration and deceleration. Vehicle was taken to the dealership with an explanation of the event. There were no codes. The dealer recommended a transmission fluid change to smooth the shifting. This seemed to decrease the frequency of the hard shifts but did not eliminate them. The vehicle has not been inspected by police, manufacture or insurance company. The dealer did not do a thorough transmission inspection. I suspect they knew of this problem at the time of the transmission fluid change due to the current recall: manufacturer recall numbern242454440 NHTSA recall number24v797.

20 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 07/31/2024

July 20, we were driving the 2021 3500hd to church w/our single axle trailer w/mower on it when we were stopped at a yield sign and proceeded to pull forward, our truck made a loud boom noise and immediately stopped. Warning lights on the dash began coming on, when the gas pedal was pressed it made a loud rpm sound of engine revving, following by barely coasting action. We were able to drift into the turn lane & get out of danger. We had to be towed to capital Chevrolet bc something isn't functioning properly. Dealership said they believe it's transmission related and the power train warranty should cover repairs needed. We have tow receipt and gas receipts for rental vehicle.

21 Power Train problem of the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

22 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 06/07/2024

While towing my 5th wheel RV trailer, the rear wheels locked up numerous times while at highway speeds(60-70mph). Hope our didn't cause any internal/ structural damage to my trailer. Scheduled a service with the dealer(gamblins Chevrolet, enumclaw, wa) for them to diagnose. The dealer found no issue or cause. Left the dealer for the same thing to occur the following week. Brought back to the dealer for this issue and others to determine the torque converter had failed, dealer replaced converter, at a later date rear wheels locked up at highway speeds again. Been ongoing with no solution.

23 Power Train problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 05/10/2024

Occasionally, after starting engine and applying brake pedal to shift into drive from park, engine rpm increases to over 1500rpm, and with full brake pedal applied rear wheels will spin while front brakes remain engaged and front wheels remain stationary. This has happened in a parked garage and rear wheels spun on dry concrete. Adding additional brake pedal pressure did not stop rear wheels from turning. This could result in a very dangerous situation and cause the vehicle to surge forward with little warning to driver allowing the vehicle to strike an object or bystander. When this occurred, brake pedal was firmly pressed and foot was completely off of the accelerator pedal. Each time this occurred I had to quickly shift vehicle into park to correct the situation. When shifted into park, the transmission parking pawl could be heard ratcheting. It is my belief that if four wheel drive was engaged, vehicle would move and overpower brakes when this occurs.

24 Power Train problem of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 04/07/2024

I was towing my 36 ft 5th wheel home from my storage place when the engine stopped. I had no brakes or power steering. I was coming up to a stop sign when this occurred so fortunately I was only moving about 15 mph. I was able to stop the truck and trailer by using the 5th wheel braking system without any damage to vehicle or other property. Once I regained my composure I tried to start the truck. All the dash lights were on but it would not start. The digital display kept showing service ecm & service stabilitrak. I had the truck towed to the dealer where it is right now. They have been unable to replicate the issue and have no suggested fix at this time. I had no prior warning messages or symptoms of the problem. All of this happened Sunday April 5, 2024. The truck is a 2024 and I bought it new, picked it up November 30, 2023. Current mileage is 3,523. If I would have been towing on the interstate at 60-65 mph around a curve this could have been catastrophic.

The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,000.

26 Power Train problem of the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 3500

Failure Date: 09/09/2023

When I shift the vehicle to park and turn it off, about 90% of the time the instrument panel will display a message that says “shift to park”, and the electrical components will not shut down. The vehicle is in park, but the computer won’t detect it. I took it to dealer while under warranty, and dealer simply stated that it wasn’t happening. It continues to happen, and I fear that it it won’t shift into park later. As is, sometimes it takes an hour or more to detect that the vehicle is in park. I fear that it will cause a dead battery and leave me stranded. I don’t know if this is a computer issue or a transmission issue. It has been ongoing for at least 10 months. Vehicle was dropped off for repair at dealer in December, 2022, but no repair was performed.
