Unknown. Our car caught fire but I'm not sure what actually caused it, it was in perfect working condition before. I saw articles online saying there was a voluntary recall due to faulty welding in the fuel tank so it could be that. I believe it's a dangerous defect and should be an official recall. My family and I almost lost our lives because of it.

Unable to shift to park from drive due to internal mechanism broke.

I have had this vehicle for three years now and no matter of the repairs I had done to it by machanics the check engind light continue to turn on and the vehicle has shut down on the road and I can't find out what the solution is. I am afraid to drive it. Also the mylink radio which has all the vehicle settings in it has malfunctioned. I cannot get to reset veichle settings. Vehicle will not turn over on the first key turn. The engine turns over on the third or forth turn and when it dose there is a loud ratteling noise.

Having trouble with leaks and the evap purge system. I repaired it three times. The vehicle will turn off while driving.

When turning the vehicle off, the key refused to come out. Saw online that many other people were also having this issue and I believe it should be a recall. I also discovered my head gasket has water in it, and it's a common issue that many vehicles like mine are having.

Roof molding is coming unglued on both sides of the vehicle, possible that it may fly off while traveling on highway or streets . My dads santa cruz was recalled for what is happening to my Sonic. I noticed this after going through a car wash and the dryer made it flop around.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic. The contact stated the audible indicators for the driver's seat belt and the "key left in ignition' was inoperable. The contactor also stated that the radio powered on independently, causing the driver to be startled due to the loud volume. No warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer, but not repaired. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 16v422000 (electrical system, equipment), 16v257000 (equipment, electrical system) or 15v416000 (equipment). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

On 4/1/2023 my engine light went on. I had my nephews look at it. See pictures below for engine read and how oil mixed with antifreeze. Also note service paperwork. Gaskets were not up to quality to keep the oil sealed in its compartment. Manager called and tried to take care of issue because he only uses genuine parts but was told there was an issue with this part and until there were more fatalities or more people complained noting could be done. He was not happy. They did the best they could resorting to youtube videos and imagination. When I got it back, it was like brand new. Two days later, my engine light came on again. You will find the new engine reading which again had the oil mix with the antifreeze and no oil left. The engine would blow/seize or worse if I kept driving it. I am on disability and live alone. I cannot afford the unpredictability of having something happen to me on the road or where I am suppose to the money. I complained before to a manager at a dealership when I had a problem with my motor when my car was still new. He told me it was supposed to be like that. I keep revving in the middle of traffic lights and people were on my backend when I would get out of work at 3:00 am. The car was recalled two months later to replace many individual motor parts. I am too old and anxious to play these games. Please seriously have look into this please. Thank you for your time.

Car was taken to a mechanic. The diagnosis is that the 16186 catalytic converter internal damage. This forces the car to keep stalling. Upon further research, certain models had this recall. I called gm and they said my car is not one of the ones that had the recall how ever it has the same failure that the other recalls do.

The driver, and front passenger interior door handles the metallic chrome coating starts to lose its adhesive. When opening the door from the inside it cuts your hands if you don't notice it. Both door handles started to have the same issue within the same year. My children, my wife and myself all have been cut from the same problem. I tried to remove the parts that caused the injury due to us not being home and still required to use the door handles. I didn't want further injury to occur to my family.

Dashboard speed indicator dimming and getting brighter for no reason. No warning lamps. Check engine lamp turned on then after fueling vehicle engine won't start, or won't shut off. Vehicle is an automatic transmission. A button must be engaged to put vehicle in park, drive, etc. The button often sticks and keys cannot be removed because the transmission won't go in to park . On July 17 the button popped out while driving. This could have stranded myself or my family. The cause of the issue is unknown, but drivers may become distracted when the end of the automatic gear shift lever pops out or as in my case when putting the vehicle into park it pops out and breaks off entirely. I believe it to be a defective part that can easily break. My vehicle has less than 70,000 miles. It has not been assessed by an insurance agent or dealership yet.

I purchased a 2013 chevy Sonic in October 2021. It has been in the repair shop twice since then. They replaced a sensor that it probably didn’t need. Now they tell me that it needs a new catalytic converter. . I have a warranty on this car . Please help ! ellen sherman 502-551-1234.

The manual transmission's clutch master cylinder failed on two occasions. It snapped into two pieces. On the first occasion, on March 24, 2022 I stepped on the clutch pedal, and it remained on the floor. The car was essentially inoperable. I was able to coast to a stop by the curb, but the car had to be towed. The part was repaired at a Chevrolet dealer with gm parts and returned to me on March 31, 2022. On June 9, 2022, the part failed again, in the identical manner. The part snapped into two pieces. The Chevrolet dealer is, over my objection, replacing the part. I have objected to the replacement of the part, because I am concerned that it is defective and certain to fail once again in the same way as it did on the two other occasions. I was fortunate on both occassions to be on suburban streets with very light traffic. I was able to coast to a stop at curbside on both occasions. My safety and the safety of others would have been at risk if the failure had happened on a heavily trafficked high-speed superhighway, or had I been ascending a hill on a busy road. The failure of the part makes it impossible for a driver to respond to the situation, as it disables the transmission system.

The release button for the gear selector for park thru reverse on the center console broke apart including a spring that is a part of the design under normal use. This renders the car to fail in numerous unpredictable/unsafe ways e. G. Key is stuck and can't be removed/unable to move gear selector/stuck in a certain gear including neutral (possible roll away). On the internet this is reported as a prevalent defect with this chevy car and a $300 dealer repair. Looks as if you checked with owners of this car they would all report this failure.

The thermostat has gone out in this vehicle 4 times in the past 14 months. Luckily for me I had the vehicle repaired at a shop that offers a warranty on the thermostat. But I still have to pay out of pocket every single time for a rental car in order for this vehicle to get repaired. I now have to put it back into the shop for the 5th time in 14 months for the thermostat to be replaced yet again because it went out. I am not happy with this as I live in alaska and it keeps going out in the winter months.

My car is a lemon , brought from arizona and they sold me a car that has a rusted chassis so if repairs are needed I will have to spend more money to get fixed because things are very fragile because everything is rusted and then I’m lease the car for a price a car isn’t worth for .

"off" remains illuminated on my passenger airbag light whether or not someone is sitting in the passenger seat. It's actually somewhat rare to see "on" illuminated. There was a recall on this model for airbag issues but my vehicle specifically was not recalled. My vehicle was recalled for catalytic converter but I'm still getting codes. Most of the problems the Sonic has been recalled for, my vehicle has symptoms of but I get cannot afford to pay repair cost up front and I cannot find a mechanic who would be willing to take the steps to report my vehicle should've been apart of the recall.

On Tuesday, September 27 at 10:25 am, I was driving to pickup medication for my dog. I was less than 5 miles away from my home. As I pulled up to park, I slowed down and turned into the nearest parking stall. As I set the automatic shifter to park, the car came out of park and shifted gears into drive; mounting the curb. I hit the brake but the car continued to move forward. When I went to pull on my emergency brake, the car hit the side of the building. As soon as I hit the building, I was able to regain control of the car and turn the ignition off. Gratefully, no one was hurt.

On Sunday, my transmission had a complete failure; according to the dealership, on Monday afternoon, we had the vehicle towed to pinkerton in salem 925 n electric rd, salem, va 24153 540-562-1337. The vehicle has only had 48,900. They said that there was a flaw possible in the transmission but have been waiting to see if they have a fix for the problem since it was possibly a manufacturing issue since the vehicle was service regularly at the dealership. We were on the highway when this was happening, and the vehicle what to stall out, so we had to come home. On Monday, we had the vehicle towed since it would not reverse out of the driveway. . No warning light, and the car was driving fine until 07/25/2021.

Shift lever (gear shifter) started getting stuck in park when I attempted to put it in drive. My vehicle key would also get stuck in the ignition. These two problems put my personal safety at risk because in not being able to shift from park to drive and (or) take my key out of the ignition, I would be left stranded out in public.

At around 45,600 miles the odometer and trip meter on my 2013 Sonic stopped displaying numbers and instead shows just 3 dashes. Disconnecting the car's battery for 30 mins, reconnecting, and starting the car displays the mileage for a few seconds and then returns to the ---. Same happens when pulling the fuse for the gauge cluster; the mileage is displayed for a few seconds and then returns to the ---. Attempting to reset the trip meter results in the normal 'beep' but numbers are not displayed. Brought the car to the dealership and since the vehicle is out of warranty they want a nonrefundable deposit of $700 just to diagnose, parts and labor would be an additional bill on top of that. Ridiculous. Since this is likely a computer issue it's beyond the scope of work that can be performed by my trusted local garage and as a result I have not had the issued corrected. This should be a gm recall.

The button in the shift stick get stuck and doesn't come back, key gets stuck and I struggle to get them out of the ignition. This is happening since October 2020 from now. One day the button got stuck and was hard to make it come back that I considered leaving my car with the keys in the ignition, but I worked so hard to get it unstuck for a good time and I succeeded. The bad thing it that I doesn't look to improve. It happes every time the vehicle is parked and I'm about to leave it.

1st at 20k miles (2019) my car wouldn't start, stuck late night. Called aaa, battery had dead cell so I purchased one for $200. Months later found out it was covered under the warranty. I started smelling coolant (2019). Dealer said it was the water pump. It was covered under warranty. Started smelling coolant again (2019), it was a valve, wasn't covered. The car wouldn't start, dead cell in the battery again (2020) started smelling coolant (2020), needed a new radiator, wasn't covered under warranty. Started smelling fumes & had a leak. It was the purge solenoid needed replacing, another $500. Two months ago (Nov 2020) the ambient sensor went out $450. Now today (Jan 5, 2021) the airbag light is on and I'm told it's the internal sdm fault and will be close to a $900 repair.

Since January I’ve consistently had issues with my 2014 chevy Sonic hatchback, in particular, codes 84, p2138, check engine light and traction control lights. (my job has us all working from home since March of 2020, so I only do local shopping, no long distance). Due to the codes mentioned above, my car was “repaired” at dealership on January 4, 2012. In the end of March I was constantly getting the same codes over a period of two days. I called gm (1 800 462 8782) on March 29, spoke with a woman by the name of michelle and I explained what has been happening with the vehicle codes, along with other issues over the past year. She opened a case file # 9-6627321866 and she called the dealership to discuss my issue. I was told to drop the car off and it will be repair at no cost to me. The car was brought to dealership on April 7, 2021 and when the diagnostic was preformed, it showed no codes in the history. They did no repair at that time and gave me back the car. While running local errand on April 17, all the same codes appeared and once again I had reduced engine power. I was near the dealership and dropped off the vehicle, even though the service department was closed at that time. Once again, a new pedal and sensor was installed. I told them to please keep the vehicle for a few days, test drive it once in a while to ensure it is truly repaired. They test drove it several times during the 4 days they had it and since there were no issues, I picked the vehicle up on April 22, 2021. On June 5, while driving to a store a nearby store, I was stopped at a light to make a left turn and all the codes suddenly came on. I had very little acceleration making the left turn. The vehicle approaching me which was a block and a half away was now very closely approaching me and luckily realized I had an issue and stopped. I immediately headed back home. Autozone ran a diagnostic and it's the same issue.

My power steering keeps going out, I have to tap on the battery post connectors and the power steering starts working again. Sometimes a warning light comes on, sometimes not. My daughter was driving going around a bend in the road when the power steering went out, almost lost control. My odometer quit working, I took it to a shop and was told it's a common problem. Why is this not on recall if a Chevrolet mechanic is telling me it's a common problem. . . Very expensive and unnecessary and should be on recall if it's that common.

Defective ignition switch. Key will not come out. When I put it into park to get out.

Stationary. The key locks in the ignition because the gear shift button on the front of the shift does not release. You have to release the button by pressing your finger or an object to release the button to release the key fob. This is frustrating, annoying and a hazard. . The manufacturer should be accountable for this malfunction. One does not buy a car new or used and expect to deal with this faulty mechanism. According to a gm/Chevrolet dealer, the entire gear shift must be replaced. I believe gm was and is fully aware of this malfunction and neglected to resolve the problem.

Car shuts off randomly during stop lights. I've researched it and have found it's a known issue with my model. When idling it will randomly shut off completely and won't turn back on for a few seconds to minutes. It will do it at stop signs stop lights. Even in im just parked.

Radio malfunctions. Channels automatically change and touch screen doesn't work all the time. I believe 2015 Sonic has a recall for this issue , but not 2016. It appears to be the same issue.

I purchased a car from royal kia on may 29th a week later I felt a pool on the gas pedal took it in to royal kia and he said it was just a shifting gears second week almost died on me while driving it was between 2:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon it kind of felt like if it was overheated and every time I came to a stop and try to go it almost died took it back into royal kia they have been giving me such a hard time I don't feel it's safe for me I've tried to talk to him about give me giving me my money back so I can purchase something else it's safer I am not satisfied with this car the guy from royal kia the salesperson wanted to take it to green valley and to work on it at his house I refuse to let him do that until the manager umberto called me back and said that they would have their mechanics look at it but he was a certified mechanic I just didn't trust them I I've been afraid to drive the car of getting stranded somewhere this week on Monday they finally gave me a rental I got things done in these past few days and I have when I bought my car.

When I tried to shift gears while driving my clutch is stuck and I can't switch and it makes a weird sound and stall in the middle of the street.
