The rear window shattered unexpectedly while driving down a city street for no apparent reason. No evidence of anything hitting the window was found. The rear defogger was on when it happened.

Razor sharp peeling chrome from interior door handles cuts fingers and hands, safety hazard to a driver away from home or not near bandages. Common gm problem from Sonic, cruze, malibu, traverse, equinox, silverados. All gm models.

A piece of the button on the gear shift had broken off and gotten jammed in the shift. Causing the vehicle to be unable to shift out of drive. This is a seriously dangerous issue, and if I was not in the car with another person who was able to jimmy the shift forward for me while I held down the break, I would have rolled forward off the road or into the building in front of me. If you look up this issue many Sonic drivers have experienced this same issue.

Vehicle shakes and vibrates when first turned on, and driving. Has alot of vibration.

The car was bought in may 24 of 2019. Since the car has been in the shop 4 times at jba in glen burnie MD were I bought car from . Car been in shop at jba 01/29/2020 -coolant leaking , was back in shop 07/25/2022 - water pump leaking , car was leaking coolant, back in shop October 2023 - for over heating , cooling system, here we are January of 2024 car going back in shop at jba or cooling issues.

I was driving to work and was coming up to an intersection I had to turn at. I pushed the break pedal, but it was really stiff and didn't do much. My car slid across the road into a wooden electric pole because it would not stop. My car is totaled and now I have to figure out some way to get a different vehicle.

Has been hacked.

Checked car while stationed, when running always needs more cooling maybe electrical burnout of a part that connects to the radiator fan. When put the diagnose code, none is given, and temperature goes up to 225, its a hazard if a person does not know that fan is not working, putting refrigerant all the time. Read that there is a new re-design cooling fan assembly.

Car shuts off and check engine light comes on, when it is being driven. Always when we have had rain. We have taken car to dealer and they cannot find the problem. Once we put heat in the gas tank it starts to drive until another rain hits.

Stationary. 2015 chevy Sonic. The gear shift button/knob was sticking and finally broke. I've had to fiddle with it (for the last seven months or so) to get the car in and out of gear using a screwdriver. When the button was stuck in the in position, the gear shift did not lock in place and when in park I could not get the key out of the ignition. When the button was in the out position, it was difficult to push in at times. It finally broke. I've got the casing completely off and the broken button out. There's a plastic lever/spring/contraption that you can press down with a screwdriver to unlock and move the gear shifter. I'm �cautiously� on my way to the dealer to get it fixed. I purchased my car on March 9,2019. In may I took it to the dealership robert hutson in moultrie, georgia where I purchased the car from and no one looked at it, it just sat out there. When I'm at a traffic light too long my car will cut off occasionally and always hesitate when accelerating even sometimes when I'm in reverse. I got my transmission looked at and nothing was wrong with it. One day after I stopped at the stop sign and accelerated my car cut off while I was already in drive and I almost got hit. I called the dealership where I got it from and told them that that it was cutting while in traffic and he said all he could tell me was to keep driving it and he don't remember selling me no car, when I told him he did and his name is even on my paperwork listed steve toler. Took it to a local auto mechanic shop and a friend of the family mechanic shop and neither shops could figure out what was wrong. In September I called the Chevrolet manufacturing office and they told me to take it to the nearest Chevrolet place. They looked at and couldn't find anything and my check engine light wasn't coming on but they test drove it and seen exactly what I was talking about. They tried doing an industrial flush and it didn't work. They suggested my alternator be replaced cause it was reading a 15, serpentine belt and belt tensioner be replaced, I did that and tooked it to an auto mechanic shop since I didn't have a warranty. The problem isn't fixed and it still jerks and cuts off to this day.

I am unable to remove the ignition key. When the car is in park with the ignition turned off, the key will not release. It use to happen occasionally but now for the past 2 weeks, it has happened every time I have put the car in park and tried to take the key out.

Button on shifter sticking can't take keys out of ignition when in park and button stays in while driving so if the shifter is bumped it will shift out of gear. . Causing a major safety issue! I looked online and this seems to be a regular problem with chev Sonic owners.

The button on the shifter sticks in. So you can't release the key from the ignition after turning the vehicle off. It also sticks in while in gear (drive) making the shifter unable to � lock� in gear and easily bumped out of gear while driving.

Vehicle is making a loud 'howling' noise. I brought it to the dealership, and they said that there is no fix to it.

When the key is in the ignition it does not chime when the door is open. It will only chime with the door open if it is turned to accessory.

While someone is sitting in the passenger seat, it does not always show "on" on the display for the airbag. At least once it has displayed both "on" and "off" at the same time and did not recognize if the seatbelts was latched or not.

Antifreeze overflow has a leak and is bubbling over the engine light on even after taking it to chevy dealer. Car stuttered and had bad smell air does not get cool we had to pull over and the second time this happened the car would not start.

Takata recall - the gasket or o ring on the oil filter housing keep leaking. I done replaced everything from oil filter to the housing. I have only own the car for 7 months and I have only out 5000 miles on the car. Now the smell of the oil is hitting the exhaust and smoking. I didn't know anything was leaking until I smelled the oil hitting the exhaust.

Takata recall - the engine has been misfiring this has also happen to someone else I know who has had the same vehicle. This is very unsafe and they don't have it as a recall yet but all of the dealership are aware of it. The vehicle jerks when your driving or when its parked. This is not the alternator or anything else I had that replaced and nothing was wrong with it and the same issue is still occurring. It a bad part they put in the engine and it neeeds to be recalled. It is unfair and not safe for customers with this issue. The vehicle jerks and when is does it it feels like it hesitates to drive while in drive mode. This has been happening for a couple of months it has just gotten worse and I am truly scared.

Horn failure. Sounded my horn at another vehicle and the horn continued to sound even after I took my had off of it. This continued on for about 10 to 15 minutes, including turning car on and off, until the point the horn completely died on it. Horn has intermittently worked on and off for about 2 years now. I was driving on a highway on I-55 southbound between California Ave and pulaski road in chicago. This is a major failure as it is a small car and larger vehicles (suvs/semi-trucks/etc. ) do not always see me. Makes vehicle very unsafe to drive.

The gear shift button got stuck and I couldn't push it in to switch gears. The vehicle would not get out of park. It started when I stopped at my mailbox, and put it in park so my daughter could get out and check the mail. When I went to put it in drive it wouldn't shift. Finally after sitting there about 5 min it moved. After that it would only do it occassionally. Now its getting stuck (pushed in) more and you can switch gears without pushing anything. If someone hits it then we are wrecking. This has been going on with these cars because I have researched this and this is their product of cheap!! luckily nothing has happened yet while driving.

The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Sonic. The contact stated that the key ceased in the ignition causing the battery to be drained. Roadside assistance was contacted and the vehicle was jump started. The vehicle was towed on three separate occasions to gerry wood Honda (414 jake alexander blvd south, salisbury, nc 28147) to be diagnosed however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The battery and alternator were replaced however, the failure recurred. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 16v257000 (equipment, electrical system) as a possible solution to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.

2015 hatchback �my link�/infotainment system just �froze�/pushing on screen to activate usual functions became unresponsive. The vehicle was stationary.

The gear shuft assembly is the issue. The button on the gearshift gets stuck. The car cannot be turned off. I replaced the gear shift assembly once. I must now replace it again.

Was unable to get key out of ignition due to the gear shift button being stuck in.

I was driving down the highway. When my car slowed down to 15 miles per hour & my engine began to rev it's self. As I almost got hit. I pulled over in a parking lot & was trying to reverse into a parking space. When all of a sudden I realized I had lost my reverse.

A month ago, my 2012 Chevrolet Sonic transmission started not shifting into second gear and severely shifting when persuaded. After that it stopped responding in reverse as well, unless I was to inch forward in drive only to shift back into reverse, which for a while worked. I am a city driver as well and have only added 2,000 miles in 5 months. Now after buying a used transmission and having the shop put it in, it is still not responding in reverse, which the part sold to me should have worked. Hearing this made me come to the realization that it cant be the transmission, but I know next to nothing when it comes to vehicles. When I search my car for recalls there are none but there is a recall for the transmissions made two months after mine, which to me, because my car is having the same response, the manufacturing date shouldn't matter. I have taken it to many shops and no one knows what is wrong with it, and I'm not sure if I took it to actual crossroads Chevrolet if they could figure it out either. I bought this car 5 months ago for $4700.

The 2018 Sonic is not safe to drive in the snow. It has no traction to start from a stopped position, no traction to stop and no ability to control steering or turning.

I was driving out of my driveway, placed car I park for a brief second to move trash can out of driveway when I came back to the car my pumpshift button was stuck inside the clutch if that's what you call the thingy that changes gear and I was stuck in the middle of the street, during school hours extremely frustrating! I had to use a needle like clip to push the button thingy out and move my car it took me a good ten minutes maybe! made me late for work!.

Cannot take the key out when car is in park.

Shifter knob button sticking. The button sticks to where the car can be shifted out of gear. It causes a problem to where you can not pull key out of ignition with button stuck in.

The shifter knob on the car has started to stick, which means it doesn't lock the car into whatever gear the shifter has been moved to. The shifter can easily be moved from drive to neutral or more dangerously out of park. Additionally, when the button is stuck, you can't remove the key from the ignition.
