On 03/12/2018 my check engine light came on while driving on the access road, while at a stop light my car started "buckling", when light turned green hesistation and major loss of power occured. Finally got going and when I got back to work and park it wouldn't start after I went in and came back out. Got it jumped and went to both napa and auto zone both said it was mass airflow sensor. Got the part the from the dealership and replaced it. All was well till today 03/15/2018 check engine light comes back on and my car started hesistating on the highway and eventually stalling as I was pulling of to the access roads. Prior to hot air was blowing out of my a. C while the cold setting was on. Made my way to auto zone and they said it was p0171 running to lean/too much air. In the parking lot ensured the oil cap, dip stick, air filter cabin were all sealed tight, wires were fine, upon inspection of the air cleaner intake duct hose found out it was broken all the way around the hose. Called my extended warranty agent and he informed me that it is a common problem with this vehicle and that it may not be covered. If the extended warranty people and the manufactures know of this, why not mention it in the manual or have the techs who change our oil and air filters look at it and mention it to us since its right next to the air compartment. As I drove it back home to park, the engine stalled on me again luckily it was as I was parking.

12/23/16, I purchased a 2012 Chevrolet Sonic. 4/6/17, I was at a traffic light when smoke come in the vents from the hood of the car. I called onstar & to run a diagnostic. The diagnostic didn't return any information & I contacted the dealer & took the vehicle for service on 4/9/17. I was told the thermostat housing was leaking and caused the smoking. The coolant system was flushed & filled & a gm oil, lube, filter change was done. The vehicle was ready for pick on 4/19/17. A few weeks later the car was smoking again. I called the dealer, I was told it was probably just fluid on the engine. The car continued to smoke periodically. 6/7/17, there was a large pool of oil under the car, I took the car to a local shop. They said that the oil had been overfilled & that it blew a seal. I called the dealer, I was told they did not overfill the oil & made another service appointment. I was told again there was a problem with the coolant system & the oil & that was the reason for the smoking. Repairs completed 7/10/17. 9/27/17, while driving the check engine light came on, so I called onstar for a diagnostic & they gave me an error code p0299. They told me that it was an airflow problem. I called the dealer & asked for the service manager & gave her the error code. She said there was a problem with the turbo & that I needed to bring the vehicle in. I took the car to them 10/3/17. 10/4/17, the service department called me & told me that the turbo on the car was bad. The repairs were completed on 10/12/17. 10/13/17 the car overheated. The vehicle was leaking coolant in two places. I took it to a different dealer & they said the t-joint in the coolant system was leaking. The repairs were completed on 10/18/17. 11/3/17 an email from on-star said there was an engine problem. I contacted on-star for a diagnostic & they said something is wrong with the coolant system.

Cars computer/programming is remotely controlled ,brakes tranmission lights suspension do notb perform as intended by manufacturer. Hacking involved while driving stationary freeways/city streets.

Gm part number 95027313 outlet duct connecting the air box to the throttle body has shredded in 30,000 miles of use. This problem causes the engine to run lean (odb2 error code p0171) resulting in significantly reduced fuel economy, poor acceleration, rough idle, and potential failures to a number of costly sensors and components, as well as allowing dirty, unfiltered directly into the engine. A quick google search reveals 26,000 search results including forums and message boards where countless Sonic owners report the same issue. This is a widespread product defect and gm needs to provide a repair solution for owners of this model vehicle.

My chevy Sonic has had a clicking noise since I purchased it. It goes dead when gas cap is removed and will not crank back. I had it worked on at a dealership $306 later it is still doing the exact same things. I purchased vehicle with 21 miles on it. I am on the road for my job. This vehicle has been a headache since purchase. I cannot afford another payment. Sure cant afford the bill from the shop when it doesn't fix any of the problems. The vehicle has had to be jumped off to start. I purchased new battery even when auto parts store tested old battery and stated it was good and alternator was charging. I am furious. What is a honest person to do?????when dealership doesn't hold up to correcting the problem. Nothing to them it ruins your credit, not their name. I have had to be towed due to vehicle not cranking even when being jumped off. Help!!! dealership/gm should be honest and fix the problems. Apparently they don't value repeat customers!!!.

In 2015, my 2012 Chevrolet Sonic had to have the fuel purge valve replaced. The car worked for a while after this. However, a few months ago, it started having a rough idle, with the rpms dipping up and down. The problem got worse recently, when the car actually completely died while making a left hand turn, almost causing me to get hit. Now, it is even worse. Now, in addition to the rough idle, traction control randomly engages even when I am not slipping, causing me to lose all power for brief periods of time, while in motion. The traction control is glitching so bad that it even randomly engages when I am completely stopped. This is a huge safety issue, and the dealership that sold me the car wants $113 just to tell me what is causing it, and how much it will cost to actually fix. There are no active recalls on this vehicle, but further research on the model I own, shows other owners having similar issues. Chevrolet has been no help.

When I press the gas pedal the rpms shoot up but car excelerates slowly. It jerks hard when switching to another gear and takes several minutes to finally get to a safe speed. Sometimes the car struggles to go uphill and hardly able to reverse. Dealership cleared my engine codes during my last oil change. Check engine light came back on a week later, autozone pulled 3 codes (p0700, p0300 and p0717). Changed my spark plugs, used lucas oil/5. 25 oz. Fuel treatment twice but still no change. Sometimes I can smell burning rubber. This problem makes it hard to safely merge onto highways and get through traffic lights fast enough. Now autozone has accidentally cleared my codes so I can't see if any of the above listed codes have been resolved.

June 2015 the dealer switched cars when we refused the options at the closing of the deal to a base/standard car. A week or so after purchasing the car a tire popped as we drove down the street. It is very loud in the morning. A high pitched squeaking sound. Next we have been smelling gas,oil/fluid leaking from the car. The driveway is stained from it. The thermostat has been changed 3 times. It has been jerking,stalking, sputtering. The antifreeze reservoir has boiled over several times. It smells like something electrical is burning. The air conditioner doesn't cool well. The windshield wipers tore up in less than a year. Thealership doesn't know why these things have happened they want to do maintenancing to see if that fixes it. Over $1000. We got this compact car to save and survive. This has been an expensive cheap car.

For 2 months my check emissions light was coming on and going off. According to my owners manual the gas cap or air filter need fixing. I went to autozone to get a free diagnostics reading. At the end of August my car started to hesitate , won't accelerate at take off. Then started heavy jerking at take off and when sitting still. I bought some liquid and changed air filter, same results. I called chevy dealer to have car checked under my powertrain and my emissions warranty. I have been trying to get help so I could get my car checked next Friday on the 23rd. To have them look at my car. But on the 16th of October I'm leaving work I backed out of stall and pulled forward car was dragging roughly. I was waiting to pull out in traffic when car started jutting forward. I press on the gas went forward about 5 to 8 feet and then nothing. I was stuck inmid traffic. The reverse worked so I was able to roll out harms way.

Vehicle started to randomly show check engine light on, smell of gasoline from time to time. Every time I would take it in the light would not be on so they couldn't help. Finally light stayed on and vehicle would shut off while I would drive, especially if I hit a stop light. I had to immediately take vehicle in and I had to rent a rental car so I can get to work that morning. Dealership called and said that it was a vacuum issue causing all the stalling and all the issues with the multiple lights on the dash. It turned out to be the air duct for the air intake box. This vehicle was very dangerous to drive and I have seen several complaints with same issue, vehicle is barely out of warranty and at 36000 miles but vehicle has less than 50k miles. I had to pay $350. 00 for this incident and Chevrolet will not cover it.

Car cuts out, grinding noise from engine. Had ignition coil replaced but still doing the same thing. Looses power going up steep hill. Only had car about seven months. Only has sixteen thousand miles on it. Sometimes while I am driving car just looses power and almost got hit in the back. I feel one of these days someone will hit me. Took it back to dealership and they say nothing is wrong but the problem is getting worse. The car does have warranty on it.

A few years ago my power steering went on. It was still under warranty and I took it to the dealership to get replaced right after the warranty expired the power steering went out again. Currently my ac is broken and I've spent a good bit of money trying to fix it; yet it still doesn't work. Now my car won't start. I've relpalced the battery a couple years ago because my car kept dying. I bought this car bran new and it had caused me nothing but financial issues. I tried contacting chevy about his car a few years ago when the power steering went out. Explaining that these are major components of my car it's not like I'm complaining about changing my tires or new brakes you now normal wear and tear. I shouldn't have to deal with these issues with a new car. I know it's 5 yeas old now but this is getting ridiculous I still owe $3800 on my car and have dealt with dumping money into a vehicle that shouldn't of had any of these problems in the first place. This has caused unessasacry stress in my life. Also two of my windows don't work. So my ac is broke and I can't even roll down two windows it's a death sentence. I've had a heat stroke in my car because of it. Legitimately scared me.

My car was losing speed even upon pressing the gas, in the middle of traffic the rpm's went all the way to 7 and then I let off the gas and they went all the way down. Then it finally started regain speed. Now the check engine light is on and the code was pertaining to the fuel system , I am very furious due to the fact that me and my children ride in this car daily and this happened I understand people make mistakes but I would greatly appreciate a call in this matter because I have called the toll free number twice and they are giving me no information as far as who I can reach out to get this fixed before there is something bad to happen. Im only getting about 14 to 16 mpg on my car. I went to the dealer and I was told that it was normal. I said that its impossible to get such low mpg when the paperwork says that I should get 25/35. Know I spoke to the service manager and he said that its normal to get 14 to 16 mpg. I told him you telling my 2005 altima 3. 5 gets better gas milage a Dodge durango gets better gas milage?? well the service department cant seem to find the problem. They recalibrated everything and its even worse. I spend 300 in gas a month which is unheard of. . Please help. . .

This vehicle is getting between 19-21 mpg at the most, including highway, which is extremely low compared to other similar Sonic vehicle models and the estimated 25/35 mpg for this vehicle. I am wondering if it is leaking fuel. I have never owned a chevy requiring this much gas. I am concerned that it might be affected by the fuel recall but my VIN is not included. Gm and the local dealership have disregarded my concerns, telling me my vehicle is operating normally. I would like my vehicle inspected for safety.

My mother stated that she was sitting still at a red light waiting for it to turn green when out of no where the engine revved up and the car lunged forward causing her to strike the car that was in front of her. She managed to steering around that car and bring the car to a stop. She and my sister told me this is not the first time this has happened. A bad smell like rotten eggs, keeps coming out of the ac/c vents and the engine of the car. I changed the air filter and everything but nothing happen the smell does not go away.

I purchased my car from a dealer, who set me up for an upside loan. Putting me into another chevy with now 2 car loans to pay off. The car has stalled on me at different times while owning it. There have been issues since shortly after purchasing it with acceleration. It jolts and jumps when trying to accelerate. The check engine light is one, sometimes it goes off, then will come back on. I have not taken it to the shop yet assuming it would be a huge expense for them to fix and find it. Took it to a private garage and they could not find the issue either. This car is crap, I owe twice as much as its worth and I do not know what to do with it. I drive an hour to work every day on the highway and I am terrified I am going to crash every single day. It happens on the highway, on the street. In the morning when it start up it jolts and sputters. If you use the heat, it smells like its burning and there is a high squealing noise coming from the passenger side.

The front driver, roof and side air bags failed to deploy. The vehicle was destroyed. There were no injuries. A police report was not filed of the incident. I was driving on the highway at between 55 and 65 mph. The side I was on had a long, steady incline upward. I had set my cruise control to about 63 mph. As I was going uphill the cruise control was supplying fuel to get to and maintain my speed at 63 mph. I was approaching another car in my lane and decided rather than pass, I would slow down. They were going quite a bit slower than me so came up upon them quickly. I pressed the brake to slow down but the brake was hard as a rock. It would not budge so it did not disconnect the cruise control and my car kept accelerating. I panicked and tried to use both feet on the brake. It still would not budge. I was within 2 car lengths of the car in front of me when finally the car reached the speed I had set the cruise control for and the brakes finally depressed. In hindsight, I had options I. E. Putting the car in neutral, turning key off, turning to avoid a collision, shutting off cruise control, but this car was new to me, and in that moment I fully expected the brakes to work. Once I was in control, I tried to recreate the problem with no one around, knowing my options now. It happened repeatedly. A service tech also had it happen to them. First attempt at repair did not fix it. Second attempt did. It was a bad check valve. Apparently the check valve let air out of a booster, so I lost my brakes? the check valve also let fluid fill the booster. The master cylinder and vacuum were replaced as well. Looking back, there were signs, but no obvious ones. A random hi-pitched noise (air squeaking out the check valve). Loss of brake fluid. Dealer had to fill it when I bought it and I added some at 6 months. This was a dangerous and scary experience. I question the design to dis-engage cruise control and the quality of the check valves themselves.

Then, it takes three seconds before the car can attempt to be re-started! very dangerous when turning left across a highway or into traffic, especially since there is what seems to be a 'programmed' waiting period of 3 seconds before you can attempt to re-started. I've owned this vehicle (1. 4l turbo engine with 6 spd manual transmission) since 05/21/2012, and over 8,000 miles later, it still stalls every time I drive it. Idles roughly, idle increases dramatically while the car is at a stop, and the engine stalls very frequently, regardless of temperature or weather conditions. On start-up, or while stopped with the engine running, the idle will become rough and vary between 200-3,000 rpm, but not stall. Also at times, while stopped, the idle will increase from normal, smooth idle up to about 3,000 rpm for approximately one second, then drop back down to 750 rpm (normal idle speed) without touching the accelerator. The engine will also stall at parking lot speeds when I push in the clutch to shift from 2nd to 1st gear. The car also often stalls when pulling out from a stop. A re-start cannot be attempted for approximately 3 seconds. Turn the key, nothing happens.
