general problems of the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban

Three problems related to air bag have been reported for the 2002 Chevrolet Suburban. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2021

The contact owned a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, there were cicadas flying towards the front driver side windshield that obstructed the contact's visibility which caused the contact to crash into a utility pole. The air bags did not deployed. The contact was transported to the hospital by ambulance for injuries sustained. A police report was filed. The vehicle was first towed to a towing yard then towed to an auto body shop where the insurance company deemed it totaled. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and had sent out a field representative to inspect the vehicle and retrieved the event data recorder from the vehicle. The failure mileage was 260,000.

2 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2015

The circuit board under the drivers seat shorted out and caught on fire while the car was occupied.

3 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2008

I was involved in a front-impact motor-vehicle accident in my 2002 Chevrolet Suburban. I was traveling approximately 35 mph when the impact occurred. The entire front end of my vehicle was crushed and none of my airbags deployed. I suffered neck and back injury ("cervical strain" - whiplash) and injury to both knees (which hit the dash board under the steering wheel). My vehicle is "totaled", so no repair is possible to remedy the damage to my vehicle. We have a claim filed with Chevrolet and are waiting to hear back from them.
