1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2022

Started with driver side heated seat randomly turning on and off. Going from high, medium, low. No way to turn it off just comes back on. Can hear clicking coming from under dash. Lift gate wiring that goes into body, ground wire burnt. (replaced) but ground wire has power. (wiring issue) so rear wiper doesn’t work. “reading” lamps only work when door is open. After replacing life gate connector, says lift gate open. Started the repair, which leads to more wiring issues! needs a recall! unsafe.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2021

Heated seats randomly turn on and off and goes thorugh the diffeent levels of heat and then off and then back on repeat for hours while driving and is very distracting as have to turn off every 10 sec and have almost crashed multiple times taking me eyes off the road but have to turn off as heat is too much in summer months, this is a known issue in almost ever Suburban 01 to 05, how is this not a recall yet, there is massive amount of documentation of this issue online.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2020

This defect pertains to gear indicator on the instrument panel. During the daylight hours the light indicating the gear the car is in (park, neutral, drive, etc. ) is impossible to read. At night you can just barely read the gear indicators. The dimness of the lights behind this gear indicator gauge is a safety hazard because you cannot tell what gear you are in during the day. It is an expensive repair because the instrument panel needs to be removed to fix the problem.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2016

Driver side seat heater randomly comes on and goes off. Majority of the time the heater stays on constantly and becomes uncomfortable. This happens more especially in wet conditions and when you attempt to turn the heated seat off, the controls won't work. This issue happens when the SUV is started, continues while idling and while driving. Some days it is hours before it will go off. Other days it will not go off. The scary thing is you can hear the dashboard clicking when the heater turns on and off, constantly cycling though high to low, back of seat to bottom of the seat. Adjusting the seat in any way does not help. I think this is a concern due to the fact that it turns off and on and you can hear it cycle through. It's also a major concern because the heat stays on without any way to turn it off. This started a week after I purchased this vehicle and has continued since October 2016.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2016

2005 Chevrolet Suburban 1500 4x4 flex fuel, 5. 3l. This vehicle's instrument cluster does not work. Tachometer pegs and sticks. The speedometer is stuck at zero. This is a very serious safety concern that general motors/gm should do a free recall for as many owners of this vehicle have the same problems. My abs sensor light comes on and off numerous times a day, and cluster states service air bag. General motors should also fix this for free under a recall as others have the same issue with this vehicle. My third major complaint, is the vehicle starting problem/hard start. It takes two turns of the engine for the vehicle to turn on and stay running. I have researched this on various search engines, forums, and including recall. Gov. General motors should address this issues as well under a recall. Gm installed faulty fuel pumps or fuel pumps with faulty components in them. A vehicle should start with one try. I should not have to get the fuel pressure going in the on position, or crank it twice for my truck to start.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2013

Our speedometer just all of a sudden stopped working, from time to time it looks like it is working but it is not going the speed that it says. Since this started our oil gauge, and now fuel gauge has stopped working.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

My speedometer recently started malfunctioning. It read 20mph when I was driving at least 50mph, then it read 90+mph when I was actually driving 30mph. Finally, my speedometer gave out and is "stuck" in the 120+mph position. Thankfully, I have a gps navigation system that has a gauge on it so I know my rate of speed. I contacted gm and they refused to remedy this "widespread" problem. They said that my "special coverage" has ended (referring to the 2008 class action suit that prompted it). I am very upset! I have read many, many forums and found that this is a very common issue. My mechanic says they replace them "all the time" and charges $700-$1,000 to fix it. In my opinion, there should be a recall on the instrument cluster panel. I just don't understand why gm won't step up and fix it free of charge.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/09/2012

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban 2500. The contact inspected the vehicle and detected a shortage within the circuits under the driver's side dashboard, which resulted in the wires becoming melted. The manufacturer was notified and recommended the vehicle be taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. The vehicle had not been repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 107,000. Kmj.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

I was driving on a trip to florida when at 65 mph my speedometer kept increasing and pegged out at the 120 mph mark. I pulled over to try and resolve the issue but to no avail it stayed stuck at the 120 mph mark. When I restarted the vehicle all my cluster gauges were pegged out: oil, battery, temp, and even gas gauge. I also started getting info that my airbag system needed attention. Four wheel drive light came on just a different array of malfunctions came flying across my display. To this date my battery gauge is still pegged out my airbag light is on, service four wheel drive light still flashes inadvertently and now my drivers side heater and controls are not working correctly. Brought in to repair shop & they said no recall has been issued so my cost would run well over $1500. 00. Ridiculous. Own up chevy fix this.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

Electrical cluster speedometer went haywire then quit odometer did the same.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2010

Speedometer on our 2005 surburban has been malfunctioning like all others reported on this site - ours for well over two years: sometimes reads zero when driving at highway speeds, other times is tacked at over 120 mph. We can be at a stop and it reads 90. Afraid to use cruise control - who knows what will happen! waiting for NHTSA to demand a recall these vehicles: what will it take? someone dying because they hydroplane, or roll, or rear end someone because they have no clue how fast they are going?.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2010

At 99k miles the speedometer started acting erratic. There are times it is correct and times when it reads 5 to 25 miles more than my traveling speed. It is definitely hit or miss as to when this will occur. Now the oil pressure gauge and the rpm gauge are acting faulty as well. I have not taken any measures to correct the speedometer but it will reset itself after several times of turning the car on an off. This is definitely a safety hazard when the speedometer reads errantly while driving on the interstate.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2010

We own a 2005 chevy Suburban, and the speedometer began to jump around and act erratically. It now shows about 60 mph, even though the vehicle is at a stop. Goes up above 120 mph while driving through town. We called the dealership, and just like others reported, was told we were going to be taken for over $600 for a repair that is occurring in virtually every 2005 gm truck (along with other years). We can no longer tell what speed we are driving, which is a serious safety hazard, especially for my teenage drivers that drive this vehicle.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2010

2005 chevy Suburban the speedometer just went out @ 42,600k miles.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

Speedometer very erratic, shows excessive speeds (120mph) or doesn't register correct speed at all. Called dealer numerous times about problem and never told about the TSB only that it would be over $600 to fix. Did research online and found TSB and called again. This is a huge safety hazard and one that Chevrolet should address across the board with the vehicles affected by this. Then was told can't fix it because of mileage unless I pay out of pocket. Now needle is stuck at zero and unfortunately being military we don't get paid enough to just shell out $600+ on a whim. Someone needs to make Chevrolet take care of their faulty products, if you pay for a premium product you should get one.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2010

2005 chevy Suburban speedometer failure. While driving highway speed speedometer stopped indicating correct speed, indicated 120 miles per hour. Speedometer is not working at all.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

Speedometer not working properly, even when the car is stop it show 70 mph.

18 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2010

On a highway trip home, the speedometer got stuck at 73mph and steadily increased in speed until it just points directly downward. It stays facing downward and doesn't move at all no. The chevy dealers also say that there is a recall but our cars VIN number doesn't meet the recall. They agree chevy should repair the vehicle. When I contacted chevy, they told me the would offer no assistance and to stop contacting them regarding the problem.

19 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2009

We have a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban with 50,000 miles. Our instrument cluster is not working properly. Speedometer is stuck, other gauges (I. E. Fuel, oil, temp) work intermittently. I believe this is a huge safety issue for obvious reasons! the cost to fix this is $650 and after much research I see many complaints of the same nature! Chevrolet has even recalled the 2003/2004 models for this reason! why not 2005?.

20 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2009

In ,may 2009 my speedo was out of whack says im driving 100mph down street, buried at 120mph on highway. Came back to life later but now its hit or miss if it works. I have to use my magellan for speedo now and chevy dealer said if I was under 70k they could fix it for free but since im at 85k and they say I have to pay in full (approx $750. 00) and chevy never told me about this I learned of the problem from a friend.

21 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2009

Speedometer shows 110 mph when cars are passing me. I believe am going about 55 or 60 mph. I understand the problem is with the instrument cluster in the dashboard.

22 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2009

Erratic speedometer. . . Says the vehicle is moving 120 mph when in a village and 30 on the highway. . . It reads erratically all of the time. Started about 2 months ago (78,000 miles) this is a huge safety issue. Is Chevrolet going to fix this problem? I have read numerous similar complaints.

23 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2009

Speedometer stopped working. It is stuck on 30mph. There is no way to tell what speed you are traveling at.

24 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2008

As I have read this is a recurring problem. My speedometer on our 2005 Chevrolet Suburban 67,000 miles quit working. On a long trip it would only show 45-60 mph. I know I was going alot faster. When I accelerated it would slowly jump up to speed. Several times the oil pressure gauge was affected also. We had the cluster replaced at the dealership. Luckily we had an extended warranty. In my opinion this is a safety concern from Dec 08 until may of 09 it happened 10 times.

25 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/30/2008

My oil pressure gauge started reading "0" in November 2008 but there is nothing wrong with my oil. (mileage approx. 49,000) I check it often and have the oil changed regularly. In February 2009 my speedometer started registering inaccurately. First, it would say I was going 40 mph at a dead stop. Currently, it is past the 120 mph mark and holding. (mileage 52,000) I took it to a chevy dealer for diagnostic evaluation. I was told it was the dashboard circuit board and that it would be $500 to replace it. The service manager told me that this part had been recalled on the 2003-2004 models but not the 2005. That I could pay for the repair and if it was recalled I could be reimbursed. This is a huge safety concern especially with young teenage drivers. It seems obvious to me reading through all the complaints for the 2005 model and the recalls of previous years that the 2005 model should be recalled as well.

26 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2008

The speedometer in my 2005 Chevrolet Suburban has developed a ticking noise in the past few days. The vehicle has 83, 300 miles. It started as a low clicking noise and has continued to become louder. I have contacted the local Chevrolet dealership, which gave me no satisfaction for repairs.

27 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2008

I have a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban. The speedometer has been going out for some time. It will either not register or register off so that the person driving has no idea of speed. I have contacted chevy and my dealer and have been informed that chevy knows of the issue but will only cover replacement through model year 2004. There is a class action suit to try to force coverage of additional years.

28 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2008

I have a 2005 chevy Suburban with about 55,000 miles on it. For the past 6-8 months, my speedometer and other gauges (oil, etc. ) will stick causing inaccurate readings. At times my speedometer is about 30 mph off from the real speed, and for the months the oil gauge has read off the charts.

29 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2007

Erratic speedometer. . . Often the needle sticks at 120 mph when only going about 30. . . Sometimes at 40 when actually not moving at a stoplight. It reads erratically all of the time. Started about 2 years ago (75,000 miles). Very costly to repair, so I keep my portable gps running to get actual speed.
