The failure mileage was unknown.
2005 Chevrolet Suburban. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle odometer problems. The consumer began having problems with the speedometer approximately 2 years ago. Intermittently, the needle on the odometer would climb above the actual speed he was traveling, then move up and down tens of miles above the actual speed, at times, it would rise to 120 and remain there. When he turned the vehicle off and on again, it worked fine, until the next time.
Speedometer stayed at speed I was driving when I stopped the car. When I restarted the car it did not return to zero but started at last speed I was driving, then increase from there. Speedometer finally stayed at 100 mph, it did not return to zero and I was unable to determine speed of car when driving. Rpm also malfunction, it stayed at 1. 5 when driving and didn't vary when I increased or decreased my speed. Had to have it replaced as I could not determine speed I was driving. No official recall, only a class action suit. My make/model/year was part of the cars affected in the suit, only I didn't qualify for reimbursement of repair because the problem occurred outside of the 7 year 80,000 mile parameter gm set up for reimbursement.
I went to washington auto show today 2/4/2012 and one of your rep gave me a card about your service. I came home and check out your website and found out you have been receiving complaints about instrument panel of chevy Suburban. I bought a 2005 chevy Suburban in March 2005 from win kelly chevorlet in clarksville, MD. About middle of last year I noticed that my speedometer is always stuck, running high than the speed I am driving and just exactly as being described by other owners of these vehicles. What is the department doing to help with this manufacturer's defect and have it corrected rather than we consumers being saddled with unexpected repair cost?.
Instrument panel - cluster device -- panel/ speedometer went dead. Gm service dealer told us, " the entire truck could die and stop working as a result. ".
My 2005 Chevrolet Suburban has 79,985 miles and this week while driving route 95 (70 mph highway in the south) from new jersey to south carolina my speedometer started showing a much higher speed then I was traveling. I was using my gps at the time and it said I was doing 69 mph while my gauge showed a constant climb till it reached 120 mph and flat lined beyond that point. This was a 1600 mile round trip and if I had not had my gps with me I would not know how fast or slow I was going. I was waiting for something else to go wrong. While in south carolina I went to recalls on the internet with 2005 gm SUV's and found a whole bunch of similar complaints, yet gm (Chevrolet) has not done anything that I could find. I returned home today and called my local Chevrolet dealer and explained to the service department what had happened and they said they never heard of this and gave me an appointment for next Monday 1/3/2011 to bring in the SUV. Since this car is out of service I am holding my breath as to what the bill could be. This is a very dangerous thing, I could be not looking at the gauge and be running right into a high speed error and putting my family in harms way. Can anyone help?.
While driving the speedometer jumped to 20 mph and never dropped back down.
Speedometer for Chevrolet Suburban 2005 no working properly, even when the car is stop the speedometer show 70 mph.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban. While driving approximately between 55-60 mph, the speedometer displayed inaccurate readings. While traveling at any given speed the failure occurred without warning. The authorized dealer stated that the instrument cluster required replacement. The vehicle has not been repaired at this time. The failure mileage was 55,000. The VIN was not available. The current mileage was 56,000. Updated 11/16/10.
Speedometer does not work on my 2005 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. Stopped working at about 60,000 miles - there should be a recall as this is a common problem on this vehicle and it costs approx. $500 to fix and it is a safety hazard.
The speedometer in my 2005 Chevrolet Suburban just stopped working. The needle is indicating 30mph all the time. This initially lead to me thinking I was going slower than I really was until I figured out that it wasn't working properly.
Defective speedometer, have contacted chevy on several occasions and they refuse to pay for cost. Gm recalled same defect on other models except mine which is a 2005 chevy Suburban. Chevy told me my car exceeded all warranty due to mileage which is in the 80k range. This is a defective part and should be replaced no matter what miles I have on the car. Currently this problem is intermittent so I'm never sure if speedometer is right or wrong. My teenager drives my car and is unable to know what actual speed he's driving. This is potentially dangerous and I cannot afford to repair myself.
The speedometer on my 2005 Chevrolet Suburban stops working at random times. It started approx. One week ago at 73000 miles. Since it is out of warranty, Chevrolet will not pay. There is a class action lawsuit filed for my vehicle.
2005 Chevrolet Suburban approx. 64,000 miles I have a faulty reading speedometer, which I feel is a safety hazard. I never know how fast I am going. Thankfully I have not had a accident or gotten a speeding ticket yet. I took it in to my mechanic, who tried replacing the speed sensor in the transmission, to no avail. I know there is a recall for 2003 & 2004 models. I tried calling the gm hotline and was told there are no recalls for 2005. I called a local dealer who told me the same thing. I don't know where to go from here. I would like to get it fixed before it reaches 70,000 miles. The dealer did ask if I was the original owner. I assume they would say if I wasn't, they would not fix it. I don't know what that should have to do with anything. What or where do I go from here?.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated that the speedometer displays inaccurate readings on the instrument panel. He cannot determine the appropriate speed, which is a safety issue. The dealer stated that the instrument control cluster needed to be replaced at the cost of $600. The manufacturer stated that because a class action lawsuit does not include the contact's vehicle year, they would not assume any responsibility for the repair. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was unknown. Updated 5/26/09 the speedometer is broken and the electrical communication makes a buzzing sound. Updated 05/28/09.
In November, my speedometer on my 2005 Suburban 1500 started fluctuating all over the place. Sometimes it doesn't even read on the numbers. Called dealer and they said their was a recall only up to 2004. I read on line that alot of people were having trouble with the cluster. Now in beginning of February my gas gage is reading wrong. Things on the instrument panel are not working right. This all started happening under 50,000 miles. My husband is laid off and we just don't have the money to fix it. Please help!!.
I have a 2005 1500 chevy Suburban that the speedometer reads erratic. It goes 120+ while at a red light or 25 cruising down the interstate. This has been going on for about 5 months now. I talk to the dealers and they say there is nothing they can do that I will have to pay the 600-900 dollars for the repairs. Not knowing how fast or slow you are going only guestamating is very dangerous for myself along with everyone else I share the road with.
I received a letter stating that the speedometer of my model vehicle had a recall (2005 Suburban). I misplaced the letter but decided to take my vehicle in to the dealership but was told that I had to pay $100 deductible. I'm not understanding why the speedometer can not be replaced without presenting the letter.
2005 Chevrolet Suburban 48,500 miles speedometer quit working from what I have read online this is a problem with many 2005 chevy vehicles.
I have a 2005 chevy Suburban. At a little over 49,000 miles my speedometer needle began to report inaccurate readings while the truck was in motion. After a couple of days the needle fell all the way to the right of the panel and wouldn't move. After getting quote from the dealership to replace new and checking with some area junk yards I learned there were possible recalls on other chevy trucks and SUV's. Once I check on the internet and found numerous people experiencing the same problem. On tonight I called and learned that the 2004 Suburban has a recall but not the 2005 so I opened a case with cheverolet consumer assistance to see about getting my truck fixed as I can't afford $500 to fix a mechanical defect which should be covered Chevrolet expense and not the consumer. I'm now driving around not knowing what speed I'm driving and risking getting a speeding ticket which is another expense. I'm a single mother with 2 kids and this is my only means of transportation.
I have a complaint about there not being a recall on my 2005 chevy Suburban on the instrument panel and electrical components. Sometime earlier this year my speedometer started jumping to higher speeds as I was driving and then got to the point it was going all the way past 120mph. Sometimes it would reset to 0 after the vehicle was turned off. Most recently it has gone past 120 and will not return to the normal functions it should have. It is very dangerous not to know how fast you are going, however, like everyone else I cannot afford the $400-$600 to pay for something that is a manufactures defect obviously! with so many complaints listed exactly the same on this site, it has to be a manufactures defect. Besides the speedometer not working properly, all the instrument lights are starting to go out or not work. Such as the radio on/off switch no longer lights up. Some of the other radio lights do not light up. On the steering wheel, some of the controls do not light up. I cannot believe that I have received a letter letting me know others are also experiencing problems with their chevy vehicles and they have started a law suite. My vehicle is a 2005 model, but since I bought it in March 2005, so it must have been manufactured before Jan 2005. The letter says it covers up to 2004 models and may later include the 2005 models. As I see it mine is doing exactly the same as everyone else and nothing is being done. Could someone explain what happens next? and when will chevy be responsible for all these complaints?.
The speedometer on my 2005 Chevrolet Suburban at 50k miles without warning started to indicate incorrect speeds. The speed readings initially were slower than my actual speed and later as the problem progressed much higher. The initial incorrect speeds were only noticed after friends following me questioned my high rate of speed. My wife drives my 4 children around in this vehicle.
My speedometer on my 2005 chevy Suburban went out and the dealer say it would cause $500 dollars to replace it I thought that was ridiculous I went on line and seen that other people was having the same problem with their GMC vehicles there all to be a recall on the speedometer GMC is getting a bad reputation.
While driving the speedometer began to give erratic readings, the needle bounced around and gave inaccurate information. This initial problem seemed to resolve itself when I stopped and turned the vehicle off and then restarted it. Since the initial incident the problem has been sporadic but becoming more frequent. The vehicle is currently scheduled for service.
We bought a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban in early 2006. In early 2008 the speedometer started to act up (bouncing, steadily decreasing until zero) we have just completed a long trip and the speedometer was not working for 4 hours.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. The contact stated that the instrumental panel clusters do not operate properly. While idling at a stop light, the speedometer gauge displayed 10-20 mph. The manufacturer issued a TSB for the 2001-2003 models, but not the 2005. The manufacturer and dealer would not repair the vehicle under the TSB. The instrumental panel was replaced in January of 2008 and the contact paid for the repair. He would like to be reimbursed by the manufacturer. The current mileage was 53,296 and failure mileage was 53,250. Updated 04/16/08.
2005 chevy Suburban speedometer does not show the right speed. First is was up by 30mph eventually it settled down to 10 mph and that is where its stuck, it does not show my proper speed any more.
Speedometer would go up when I increased speed but would not go back down when the vehicle slowed down. I was able to get the speedometer to reset to zero by repeatedly starting and turning off the vehicle. Over the course of the next month the needle would do the same thing. I could reset it the same way. As of now its pegged at the bottom and I cannot reset it.
The speedometer on my 2005 chevy tahoe has been acting erratically. Sometimes it will work normally. Other times, it will not register at all. Additionally time it will read erroneously when driving traffic speeds. The selection process did not allow me to register a tahoe, only a Suburban, which is why the vehicle information looks as it does.
Speedometer stick at 65mph, next time I start moving it moves up to 120 mps. Other times it stuck at various speeds. I depend on my speedometer to keep me safe. The first time it happened I almost crashed. Since then I have had a couple of close calls. If you can't rely on your speedometer it is very stressful and dangerous! " please help us fix this dangerous problem". Thank you, michael j. Sanfilippo.
Speedometer operates erratically, sticks when changing speeds, or reads erroneously (e. G. 5 mph on the freeway doing 70 or 100 mph when parked).
Issue with instrument panel (including stereo, lights on panel, instrument gauges), power windows/locks & security system - randomly shuts off. Sometimes the odometer works and other times it does not. The instrument panel gauges all move to the left with the gas light coming on. The tire pressure monitor is activated. Panel indicators come on (engine light, security system, seat belts, etc. ). Stereo system is completely off with no lights on the panel. The heater/ac system sometimes goes off also. The power windows and locks do not work during these times.
The speedometer needle began reading higher and higher speeds even though there was no acceleration. When sitting still, the speedometer read 70 mph. The needle will not return to zero, even when the vehicle is parked. I have contacted the dealer and was told it would cost $400. 00 to $500. 00 to repair. I cannot drive the vehicle, not knowing how fast I am going.
Speedometer stopped working on our 2005 chevy Suburban. Started out going from 20 to 100 and not registering the proper speed. Now is stuck at 120 mph. Cost ranges from 300 to 1000 dollars to fix. Having to use gps for speed which is a distraction and safety concern.
I have a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban z71 with 59,799 miles. The speedometer on it recently stopped working correctly. The day the speedometer stopped working correctly I was on an hour long trip on the highway. During the trip I noticed the speedometer showed I was going 95 mph. The speedometer continued to increase even when I slowed down, until it passed 120 mph where it was stuck for several days. It started to slowly go back down. Since that day then the speedometer continues to show the incorrect speed of the vehicle. The speedometer sometimes reads as high as 120 mph when the vehicle is not moving, and at other times displays the vehicle going 10 mph when the vehicle is not moving, and other times shows correctly at 0 mph. The problem seems to get worse when I drive the vehicle on longer trips. I have contacted the local dealership and was told there is a recall to correct this problem but that my VIN number is not included in the recall.
