1 Dashboard Crack problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2018

"takata recall" the dashboard has cracked in several places and over the course of a few months, has completely broken over the instrument cluster. This is a safety hazard as I am afraid other pieces will fly out in the event of an accident. My family and I have been faithful customers of gm since the 50's but I am strongly considering another brand since gm does not honor or offer to fix repeated problems by its owners.

10 Dashboard Crack problem

The dash board is cracked in multiple areas that could impact the proper airbag deployment.

11 Dashboard Crack problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2014

I purchased a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban approximately 18 months ago. It had approximately 86000 miles on it. At approximately 89000 miles the dash began cracking. It has continued to crack ever since. The first one was on the left front of the passenger side airbag. Since then I have numerous cracks on the drivers side over the instrument panel. This could be a hazard if the air bag is deployed and the dash breaks further and sends projectiles of the dash material airborne in a crash. This seems to be a problem with all of these model vehicles from 2007 to 2011. I believe it should be addressed and paid for by gm. Some of these cracks have happened while moving and one even happened from the interior getting cold inside.

12 Dashboard Crack problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2014

Dash cracking around passenger airbag. Suspect deployment could send shoot plastic at driver and passenger.

13 Dashboard Crack problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2014

The dashboard is badly cracked. It will cost about $1,000 to repair which reduces the net proceeds if we sell it. We don't feel comfortable selling it without the repair and doubt anyone would want to buy it in this condition. I also feel somewhat unsafe driving it considering the airbag issues. It's gradually gotten worse, so no specific date that I can recall.

14 Dashboard Crack problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2013

2007 chevy Suburban with 5. 3 afm engine. Driving down freeway and traction control, stabilink and engine light come on. Misfiring real bad. After getting it to shop they stated no compression in 2 cylinders. When told service manager he stated what problem was right away. Then confirmed it. Knew right away because it is common problem. Stated problem dropped lifters which damaged camshaft stemming from afm system. Would have to pay to tear down engine to be exact but will need a motor either way. This has been a common problem with the oil consumption problem with this motor. I had been experiencing oil consumption for a long time. I would burn a quart of oil driving 1000 miles on long trips. Every week I'm a 1/4-1/2 quart low. Chevy says this is normal and denies there is a problem but this is far from normal. This also stems from afm system. An 07 chevy Suburban that has been maintained should last more than 170,000 miles and chevy should stand by their product of a known issue. There have been fixes by chevy but none seem to work. I never formally filed a complaint with chevy or did oil consumption test( but they wouldn't have it if there wasn't a problem. I have just followed issue online waiting for a fix. But , motor died first. Also vehicle has a cracked dash which has been a common problem with this vehicle which chevy has since reinforced the places it cracks indicating there was a flaw in design but chevy refuses to fix.

15 Dashboard Crack problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2013

Dash has been cracking for 2-3 years. Dealer refuses to document or remedy. Says vehicle is outside of warranty. This is a safety concern if the air bags go off or if a child was to reach up and touch the crack. It is razor sharp. 3 cracks total. Vehicle is garage kept and not sitting in the sun.

16 Dashboard Crack problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

The dashboard is cracking in various areas. Specific area is the cracking next to the passenger side air bag area. I am seriously worried if an accident were to happen and the airbag was to deploy that shards of plastic could be sent flying thru the interior of the vehicle.

17 Dashboard Crack problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

The dashes of all gm trucks and suvs are cracking, badly. They're designed poorly and crack right around the passenger airbag deployment section. In the event of air bag deployment, it will send jagged plastic shards towards the occupants. This is completely unsafe and a serious hazard but gm refuses to correct the issue even though it has been acknowledged, hence I am filing this complaint. If you simply google gm cracked dash and enjoy all the posts and videos from frustrated americans. I have 4 daughters and it not right to have to worry about one of the being injured but a faulty dash please help. Thank you.

18 Dashboard Crack problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2012

The plastic on the dash around the air bag has cracked. I am afraid to have anyone sit in the front passenger seat. If the airbag deploys the dash is going to break apart.

19 Dashboard Crack problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

My dash began with a small crack on the left side of the top of the airbag. We then had a very long crack on the driver's side over the hump. I took the car to the Chevrolet dealership I bought it from and they said it was not under my warranty and that I would have to pay out of pocket. About 6 months ago another long crack on right side of airbag developed. Airbag is partially exposed and I feel it is a safety concern. After doing some research, it seems this is an extremely common problem in these automobiles. There's even a facebook group complaining of this common problem!.

20 Dashboard Crack problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2012

The dash on my 2007 Suburban cracked on the driver's side in front of the instrument bezel area. This same exact crack has appeared on hundreds if not thousands of Suburban, tahoe, yukon, yukon xl, and silverado trucks for this vehicle cycle. Also on other similar dash panels an additional crack has appeared by the passenger airbag. Recently gm has redesigned the dash so that it will not crack in these areas, but they have failed to issue any sort of recall to the current owners with defective dashes and fix the dash that could pose a safety risk if the vehicle is involved in an accident.

Dash cracked in three places, two around passenger airbag cover, one directly over steering wheel.

27 Dashboard Crack problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

I am filing this compliant about the cracked dash on my 2007 chevy regency Suburban, which I purchased brand new in 2008. This dash has been cracked for over 7 years now. I have tried several times to get the dealership (reliable Chevrolet) in dallas, TX to fix the issue but was told it would cost me somewhere around $1,500 to do so. There are 2 cracks near the passenger side airbag edges then a massive hole over the console because the entire top of the console has cracked to into pieces. Likewise, the front panel of the console, inside the vent area has cracked and fallen about. I am scared for myself, wife, kids and any other innocent passenger(s) along for the ride because if the airbags do deploy, there is a huge possibility plastic shards will fly into their faces causing severe facial damage and or possible death.

28 Dashboard Crack problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

I have a 2007 chevy Suburban; I have a crack in my hard plastic dashboard that begins where the dash starts at the window and extends forward towards the driver seat half way up the curve where the speedometer is. Apparently I am not the only one reporting this. There is really no good fix outside of getting a new dashboard for a lot of money. I am not very happy about something that cracks, such as my dashboard that cannot be fixed and must be replaced. Also, the chrome is peeling of both front interior door handles causing small minor cuts. . Read more...
