I'm having problems with the door locks. All of them goes out at some time. I'm not able to get into my vehicle with the key or anything. I'm afraid that there's going to be a time when I'm not able to get into my vehicle for something important or even to get my kids. There are a lot of people with this problem. I think this should be looked into for a recall. Please help! these power lock are defective.

I purchased my 1999 Suburban in March 2010 with 56,000 original miles. It currently has 60,000 original miles. The steering wheel will randomly jerk/pull when going around a curve. It does not happen every time but it happens often enough that it is a concern of mine. After a thorough check of fluids and steering components there is nothing "wrong" with the vehicle. It does not matter if I am driving at a lower speed or a higher speed just that I am going around a bend or curve in the road. I have grazed a curb once. I also have lots of problems with the locks/latches and doors opening.

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet silverado 1500. The contact stated that when driving at various speeds, the doors would lock and unlock independently with the illumination of the service air bag warning light. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times for repairs but to no avail. The dealer advised that each component had its own modular but replacing the modular for each component had not corrected the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 24,000.
Inside right and left door handle chrome plating coming off causing sharp edge, resulting in cuts.
The contact owns a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. The contact stated that rear door locks would not unlock when he shifted into park gear. He had to manually unlock the rear doors to open them. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the locks were failing and he would be responsible for the repair costs. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The current mileage was approximately 53,880. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
The automatic door locks do not work on my 08 Chevrolet Suburban. To unlock the doors you have to use the key unlock the drivers side door and then either climb in the back or over to unlock the back doors and front passenger doors. Or roll down the windows. To lock the doors you have to manually lock the doors.
I own a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban. In less that two (2) years, three (3) of the door lock actuators have stopped working completely. General motors has done nothing to remedy the problem after making them aware of it. The failure of the door lock actuators is constant. There were no events leading to the failure other than an inferior part. The only way to unlock the rear doors is to crawl over the front seats into the rear of the vehicle. In the event of a traffic accident this will become a safety hazard due to the following reasons. 1. The power locks inside the door and the remote fail to unlock doors 2. There are no key holes on the rear doors to unlock them in the event of a crash 3. This will lead to entrapment inside of the vehicle if the doors are locked in a crash 4. This will lead to passenger ejection if the locks are not locked manually 5. Structural integrity is lost in the door when it is not locked.
Driverside driver and passenger automatic door locks inoperable.
Vehicle automatic door locks will not work a described often requiring someone to crawl in the backseats to unlock the doors in order to get the kids out. There are no key locks on new vehicles for the back doors and when the locks mess up it requires someone to crawl across and unlock it manually. . Recently my back left door lock messed up and I took it in and paid out of my pocket to have it fixed due to the fact that I cannot find any gm dealership in belgium that will honor a gm warranty due to a fallout with Chevrolet. One month after I had the back left door lock replaced out of my pocket, the front left went out and will not lock or unlock. This vehicle has 20,000 miles on it and is still under factory warranty. This is a huge safety concern for me and my family and also does not allow my on-star to work properly if I needed it as for they will not be able to remotely unlock a door with the lock actuator broken.
Actuator in door locks not working. When these go out , the door cannot be opened from the outside with handle or remote. If a child or person was in the vehicle and there was a fire , they could not get out.
My passenger rear door lock quit working and I am very concerned that my children might open the door while driving down the road. . . Or that I will not be able to get them out of the vehicle in an emergency ie. . Fire, crash, water. . Etc. . Due to the locks only being able to unlock from the inside!! after looking into this, I feel that this is a huge issue with all 2008 Chevrolet models and should be looked into by the authorities!!! do we have to wait until someone dies to have this issue resolved?? my warranty happened to expire 6000 miles ago, and now I will have to pay $300 to get it replaced. . . From what I have read, I can expect to replace all of them eventually. . . . That is $1200. . I cannot afford to pay for even one right now, but I also can not afford to lose a child. . . . So I am kind of up against a wall! please look into this!! thank you!.
Driver side and passenger side door handles on inside break or fall off hinge mechanism within the door. This poses a big safety issue if there was a need to get out of the car quickly. Now, we roll the windows down on both sides to get out of the vehicle. We have paid to have the driver side fixed before including buying a new inside door handle. Same issue again, the door handles just hang there on the inside of the doors.
The locks on both of my 08 Suburbans started to fail starting when trying to lock or unlock the doors with remote button and the interior lock button. The problem started with the drivers side door not locking or unlocking and has progressed to the drivers side rear door. This has occurred in both of my ltz 08 Suburbans. You can not get out of the car in case of emergency, nor can you lock or unlock the doors if needed to quickly lock if being threatened. Dealer states they have had numerous calls however its not covered or recalled.
There is no real events leading up to the event, the power locks just stopped working on all 4 doors. Also have had the exterior door handles replaced twice at a cost of 250. 00 each. The 4 lock actuators are at a cost of 1000. 00 the company has a fleet of 10-20 Suburbans and tahoes which all the vehicles are experieincing the same defects. This is a major life safety issue with children in the car not bein able to unlock or lock the doors in an emergency.
Trunk will not open. Locks automatically while driving then will not unlock. There is no manual way to open the trunk, hence no escape in the event of an accident.

2006 chevy Suburban rear liftgate will not unlock. I've investigated this matter on the internet and found tons of people with other chevy models experiencing the same issues. Chevy didn't install any type of key entry from outside or a release handle inside. With this occurring all the time with numerous vehicles all over the country, chevy should be recalling this product to fix it. If something happened in one of these vehicles like a fire and a child was to get trapped or an adult this would be disaster. . .
2004 Chevrolet Suburban rear window hinge detaching from glass causing a safety concern that window could dislodge and fly off an hit another vehicle or person. The hinges appear to be glued to glass and the glue is failing and detaching from window. After researching the issue on the web, Chevrolet is aware of the issue and has not issued a recall. This is a serious issue that could result in serious injury or death to others. In July of 2004 Chevrolet issued the following bulletin: "customer satisfaction - liftgate window molding #04065 - (July 26, 2004) 04065 - liftgate window molding 2005 Chevrolet tahoe, Suburban 2005 GMC yukon, yukon xl on July 20, 2004, all vehicles involved in this program were placed on stop delivery. After the service procedure contained in this bulletin is completed, the vehicles may be delivered to customers. Condition general motors has decided that certain 2005 Chevrolet tahoe and Suburbans, and GMC yukon and yukon xl vehicles may have been built with an incorrect adhesive on the liftgate window molding, resulting in the possibility of the molding partially separating from the window. " my concern is that this affects more years that the 2005 as there are numerous issues with 2003 - 2004 models. There are also several documented incidents of rear window detatching from the vehicle while in motion. I spoke with mr. James smith at Chevrolet customer service this evening and filed an official complaint/report. It is documented in their system as service request concern # 71-751420936. Mr. Smith also said that Chevrolet would be contacting the ntsb about this issue.
Liftgate does not have a key lock entry and will not unlock using the driver side lock/unlock door panel or the hand held key remote therefore I cannot open it at all. It is extremely frustrating since we got the Suburban for the space but, besides that - in case of an emergency this could be extremely dangerous. There is no manual release. If the front end of the car were damaged and the side doors were unable to be opened there is no way of opening the rear door. I have two small children and this is of great concern to me. I get flashes of a car accident and a fire with my kids trapped inside without being able to open the rear door from outside or inside! I cannot believe there is no manual safety lever! I have seen numerous complaints about this issue with the liftgate not opening on several blogs and websites. All you have to do is type in Suburban rear liftgate won't unlock. Please review as I do feel this should be a recall issue before it affects the safety of consumers.

The hinge for the rear liftgate window failed. There is a horizontal crack across the hinge. It appears to be metal fatigue. This failure is a safety hazard for the following reasons:
1) the window no longer seals properly and could allow exhaust gases to enter the vehicle cabin, resulting in carbon monoxide poisoning. It is very possible that this failure would not be detected immediately. 2) the hinge failure causes additional strain on the remaining hinge and latch. Further failure would result in the window detaching from the vehicle. A) if this occurred while driving, the window could impact vehicle behind the Suburban or shatter on the roadway leading to debris related accidents. B) if this occurred while stationary, the glass could (which is heavy and sharp edged) could injure a person standing or walking at the rear of the vehicle. This exact same failure occurred previously on this vehicle at ~ 13000 miles of operation. The repair was made by a dealer at no charge to the owner. The recent recurrence of the failure of the same hinge occurred at ~107000 miles. The problem was reported to general motors customer service and was logged as service request # 71 743 851 820 by jatta flores. Jatta denied owner's request that gm repair the defect.

My family has a 1999 chevy Suburban. The rear passenger door lock has seized. We have four kids and we feel that this is a considerable safety hazard. In the event of some sort of accident access to every exit is key. I have done some research and this seems to be a common problem with this vehicle. This first occurred about 18 months ago, but fixed itself after two or three unlockings, now it appears to be completely inoperable.
Door handles are separating from the body. Pose a departure failure at highway speeds. 3 of 4 door handles are coming off.
The contact owns a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban. The driver's side linkage connection between the door latch assembly and the interior driver's side handle was defective. Chevrolet stated that there was no recall for this failure. The mechanic stated that there were warranty alerts on the doors, including one for the door knob remaining open due to the detail bracket needing to be replaced. Through online research, the contact found a notice regarding the Suburban door handles being difficult to open because the structure was produced incorrectly. The current and failure mileages were 72,083.

The platting or plastic covering on interior door handle separates from handle along a seam on top edge of the passenger door handle. Passenger's hand was cut severely requiring medical attention. Upon examining handle on driver's side the same condition is beginning to occur. I have had to wrap tape around the handles to prevent further injury.
1999 chevy Suburban: passenger side back door, difficulty in opening door from the inside, have to roll window down and open from outside, seems to jam/get stuck and won't open!!! this happens quit frequently. . .
I am unable to open my door from inside the vehicle (1999 Chevrolet Suburban) it appears that whatever mechanism is inside the door itself is broken (I. E. , whatever holds connects the handle to the opening mechanism. I have to open my window every single time in order to reach outside of the car and open it from the outside. No repairs have been made to date since I can't afford a body shop repair bill.
Purchased new and own a 2007 chevy Suburban. We have cut our hands several times opening the driver side door when pulling the inside door handle inward. This has been caused by the peeling fake chrome plastic that covers the inside handle. This peeling fake chrome creates a sharp edge as it peels off that is directly positioned to rub across one's fingers as you pull the door handle in toward you to open the door.
2008 chevy Suburban has had two outside chrome door handles break due to being held in by plastic. Dealer has seen tons of these not only on Suburbans but other chevy vehicles. See technical service bulletin #09-08-64-032.
The contact owns a 2006 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. The contact stated that the trunk lift would not open on the vehicle. Currently, there is no access to the trunk from the exterior nor the passenger compartment of the vehicle. The failure mileage was 45,000 and current mileage was 45,023.
I own a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban, the rear lift gate has a window that is incorporated into the lift gate and can be opened independently there are plastic hinges attaching the glass to the lift gate and one of the two hinges failed and is broken. I have searched the forums on this issue and it appears to be widespread and Chevrolet wants $1000. 00 to replace the glass with the defective hinge.
The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. The contact stated that the electronic locks on the driver's side doors are not working properly. The doors are supposed to lock when the vehicle shifts out of park. Instead, the contact has to manually lock the doors. When the child safety seat is in the rear driver's side of the vehicle, she must climb into the back seat to unlock the doors and get her child. If the vehicle is moving and the doors are unlocked, they could possibly open and cause the child to fall out of the vehicle. The dealer previously repaired the rear passenger side door, but currently the driver's side doors are not locking and unlocking properly. The contact wants all the doors on the vehicle repaired, but she has not yet heard a response from the manufacturer. The current mileage was 5,000 and failure mileage was 3,875.
Chrome plating on front door handles is flaking off creating sharp edges.
The problem started with the passenger front door the lock or closing mechanism didn't seem to engage the door would just fly open when making a turn. Then the inside handle broke and the window works only sporadically. Now the driver side door is having similar problems the door does not close completely and the inside door handle broke. Fortunately nobody has fallen out of the car . I also have at least 3 friends who own 1999 Suburbans and are having similar problems with their doors.
Door latches on the passenger side are malfunctioning. It is difficult to close the door, it has to be slammed or the latch on the side of the door has to be manually altered (clicking it open while pulling on the door handle). Also passengers sometimes have to roll down the window to open the door from the outside in order to get out, which can be a potential safety hazard in case of an accident. The rear right passenger door continuously comes off the hinges and I have to hammer the bolts in, in order to close the door.
