38 Seat Belt problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

I purchased my Suburban used in July 2018. In 2019 I realized the pretensioner for the driver's seatbelt doesn't work. I have asked my dealership if they could ask chevy to pay for this repair, but they said they have to wait for the official recall. In my research, I have learned of other chevy vehicles (traverse & malibu) in 2011 with the same problem. I have not contacted Chevrolet directly with this problem (yet). The flexible steel steel cable that connects the seatbelt to the front outboard seating positions may fatigue and separate over time.

53 Seat Belt problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 04/10/2016

The sealtbelt restraint locking system is faulty and this had to have been known during and after vehicle production . The seatbelts with passengers trrdtraunef travels to far forward which would end up in death or very bad head and neck injuries because the seatbelts do not lock when brakes are applied hard or forward momentum is stopped very suddenly! I have tried to cause a lock action by pulling on seatbelts very quickly and forcefully with vehicle sitting parked and also while driving to slam the brakes to cause a fast lock on seatbelts and no affect was apparent to safely restrain adultsadults, children,or even newborns in the car seatseat. This is unsafe and with airbag system in the front driver and passenger side this will lead to death in the event of a crash!.

54 Seat Belt problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/09/2015

I purchased my 2007 Chevrolet Suburban brand new in 2007. I think the mileage is somewhere around 150,000 but not sure because the odometer cluster went out on the vehicle several years ago. Also, my door handles are starting to peel apart which are cutting my hands and my children's hands. One incident it sliced my hand open very similar sever paper cut but worse. The handles were already replaced once on my Suburban back in 2009 by gm and at gm's cost. The main issue about this email is the seatbelts and the dashboard. There are four passenger seatbelts that do not work hardly at all. Sometimes they will snap in/buckle and there are a lot of times that they do not. The crack in my dashboard is right next to the airbag. It really concerns me as far as being a safety issue. I do have five small children that are constantly with me in my car. I just want this dashed fixed at no charge being that it is a defect. I have signed a petition with thousands of other gm owners with the same exact issue. . . . Cracked dashboard and most of them in the same exact place. . I'm just asking for this to be replaced and corrected.

55 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/24/2015

Back passenger side seat belt(bench extreme back) would not retract. A child was trapped(12 yr old) in the back seat of this new 2015 Suburban SUV. The seat belt was somehow wrapped along the stomach and hooked on the seat, while taking out the belt, it was stuck around the stomach tightly and would not retract back. It was so tight around the stomach and child could not breath properly. I think this is design malfunction where the seat belts would not retract. There was another seat belt in the same car which was completely out of the seat belt winding system, this would not retract at all. This car was taken from a national rent a car center.

56 Seat Belt problem of the 1999 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 06/08/2015

Seabelts on this model seem to not work as they should. In the event of a collision, or a quick stop seatbelts don't stop the passengers in vehicle until seat belt is fully extended. All other vehicles that I own work fine and locking mechanism for seatbelts work as designed. These seabelts on this Chevrolet Suburban are not performing as required and the locking mechanism seems to be faulty. Currently there is a recall for this model/VIN # vehicle but it only convers the passenger restraint system in regards to the neck extension. My concern is that all seatbelts on this vehicle could be faulty too and could injure all passangers in a collision. Request to have manufacture do a one time inspection on seatbelts to determine if indeed locking mechanisms on these models are faulty at not cost to the comsumer.

57 Seat Belt problem of the 2011 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/07/2015

The seatbelt felled to unleash. I had to push the seatbelt in and push the seatbelt release to get the belt to release. When it was time to buckle up again, the belt wound not latch.

58 Seat Belt problem of the 2005 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/26/2013

Had to replace the sensor for the air bag. This should have been covered by general motors. I know that a lot of people would not have this problem fixed due to the cost. When the service air bag light comes on it deactivates the air bags. This is a major safety issue. We have a 2000 Chevrolet tahoe in out family that has not had this problem. I feel there needs to be a recall.

59 Seat Belt problem of the 2013 Chevrolet Suburban

Traveling in construction in merge lane tapped on breaks, drivers seat belt caught and did not release driver applied breaks to avoid collision with a merging semi. The seat belt tightened even more pulling the driver up out of the seat the back seat passenger had to release the belt after beating on the release latch. 60 Seat Belt problem of the 1994 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 07/08/2013

The seat belts will not retract when you lean forward and the wipers will work sometimes but most of the time they will not turn on. This reduces visibility while raining and if it results in a crash the seat belts may not work properly to protect the passengers.

61 Seat Belt problem of the 2008 Chevrolet Suburban

62 Seat Belt problem of the 1995 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/25/2012

Tl- the contact owns a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban. While parked, the contact noticed that the front driver's side seat belt would not sustain him properly when leaning forward suddenly, as the front passenger side seat belt would. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The contact was unaware of the necessary repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000. Kmj.

63 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/10/2012

Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban 1500. The contact stated that the rear lap belt failed. In addition, the second row center occupant seatbelt routing had become snug on the passenger's hips and allowed the lap belt to ride up on the passenger's abdomen instead of fitting low around the hip bone. The dealer was notified of the issue who stated that there was a recall for the failure under NHTSA campaign id number: 05v163000 (seat belts: rear) but the contact's VIN was not included in the recall campaign. The manufacturer was notified who confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not prepared. They offered no other assistance. The failure mileage was 150,000. Kmj.

64 Seat Belt problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 01/01/2012

The door handles have cut three members of my family because the metal is peeling off of the plastic. Seat belts are falling apart and at least 3 of them do not latch at all. This is very dangerous. There definitely should be a recall especially for the seat belts. Air bag light is constantly on and the dealer of course wants to "fix" it and states that if there is a crash that it may not work properly. . . . . . . . . This after I had the top half of the engine rebuilt due to oil consumption problem. Then there is the tire pressure monitor which apparently has issues after having new tires put on my car. Nothing but problems with this hunk of junk. Will never buy another chevy vehicle.

65 Seat Belt problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 12/27/2010

Issue: 2010 Suburban 3rd row seats do not have locking seat belts - making them unsafe for an infant car seat. 2009 and previous do have the 3rd row locking seat belts. I took the car to the local dealer where I purchased the car at, and the service manager was able to confirm that the above is accurate (he cross-checked it against a few other 2010/2011 models that also did not have the locking seat belts in the 3rd row seat).

66 Seat Belt problem of the 2010 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 10/15/2010

3rd row seat does not have locking seat belts but 2009 and previous model years do have locking seat belts on the 3rd row.

67 Seat Belt problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/02/2010

A few months ago, the seat belt in the second row (left side, behind the driver's seat) of my 2007 Chevrolet Suburban completely fell apart. On March 6, 2012, the passenger side seat belt stopped working and will not lock. On March 7, 2012, the driver's side seat belt stopped working and will not lock. Due to seat belt laws in our state and three children that have to be in seat belts, I am in a dilemma.

68 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 05/30/2010

Over the past 3 years, the cover on all three seat belt latches in the second row of our Suburban have failed. They are made of 2 pieces of plastic that clip together to cover the mechanism and provide guidance for the seat belt tab to be inserted into the latch. Not having the latch covered makes it extremely difficult to buckle any seat belt for passengers in the second row. It is also difficult to press the button to release the seat belt. This is a huge safety issue as it is very difficult to buckle the seat belts even for an adult. None of our children can secure their seat belt when riding in this car. We have to make sure each time we get in the car to assist them. In addition, it is easy to scrape against the exposed metal of the latch mechanism when entering and exiting the vehicle. I was not able to find any recalls or other inquiries about this issue.

69 Seat Belt problem of the 2007 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 09/10/2009

The rear (third row) seat belts randomly lock under non-emergent conditions. The tension on the belt becomes extreme such that the cannot release the belt and requires assistance, resulting in a potentially dangerous situation where the occupant may not be able to egress in an emergency. The situation is made worse by passengers in the third row seat who are adults and/or may be overweight. The manufacturer has modified the third row seat belts in apparent recognition of the problem, but has not chosen to correct the problem in earlier vehicle designs.

70 Seat Belt problem of the 2006 Chevrolet Suburban

Failure Date: 08/01/2009

Notification of faulty seat belt in chevy Suburban I am writing to notify you about a seat belt defect in our 2006 chevy Suburban that could have resulted in the injury or death of our 8-year old son. My wife left two of our kids reading in the middle row bucket seats of the car with their seat belts on, and was gone very briefly. When she got back our son was all entangled in the seat belt and was having difficulty breathing because of the tightness of the belts coils around his lower abdomen. The son later explained that he got entangled when his book fell inside the car and he tried to retrieve it before releasing the seat belt. My wifes attempts to get the belt to release only seemed to make it tighter. She flagged down two off-duty police officers who also failed to get the belt latch to release. In the end, the police officers opted to simply cut the belt and free the boy. We are thankful that this incident had a happy ending, but hope you can look into this matter and take any necessary corrective action.
