Automatic Emergency Braking Problems of Chevrolet Tahoe

On March 21, 2026, I rented a Chevrolet Tahoe (approx. 24,450 mileage driven). While operating the vehicle on a freeway at approximately 40–50 mph, the braking system and abs failed suddenly without any warning. Barely no brakes were able to apply to stop the vehicle. It also started to show that ecs service (electronic stability control) and service brake pad monitor. Many faults started to show.

I have a 2025 chevy Tahoe and the automatic braking system is way too sensitive. When I’m reversing, it constantly slams on the brakes even when I still have enough space and nothing is in my way. It also brakes when people are nearby but not actually in my path. One time I was stopped and about to move forward, and the car suddenly braked because a construction worker was a few feet away, not in front of me. It caught me off guard and didn’t feel safe. The braking is very sudden and aggressive, and it makes normal driving and parking difficult. It feels unreliable and could cause a dangerous situation.

The following notifications showed up on my dashboard as my breaks failed me! I was going down a hill and hit the breaks and they would not work, I could not stop the car! - service break pads - forward collision system unavailable - break system failure - service traction control - service esc - check engine light on this is the second time this has happened in 4 weeks. We just got it back from getting it “fixed” one month ago. One of the scariest experiences, losing breaks!.

To whom it may concern, I am writing to express my absolute shock, extreme frustration, and profound distress regarding the catastrophic and recurring failures of the brand new $86,626. 50 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe rst we purchased from community Chevrolet (200 w olive Ave, burbank, CA 91502). We did not purchase a used, low-budget vehicle; we invested a life-altering sum of eighty-six thousand dollars in what we expected to be a safe, reliable family SUV. Instead, we have received a death trap that the dealership refuses to fix permanently. This vehicle is fundamentally unsafe to operate. We have brought it to your dealership four (4) times for the same critical safety issues, and each time, we receive the same insulting explanation: a "software update" or "recalibration. " these are not fixes; they are negligent bandaids designed to clear error codes long enough for us to drive off the lot. We are experiencing terrifying, random system failures while driving: "service esc" warning "forward collision system unavailable" "brake system failure 62mph top speed" let me be unequivocally clear: the braking system has failed twice while my wife and three young children were inside the vehicle, nearly resulting in fatal collisions on the freeway and city streets. This is not an inconvenience; this is a life-threatening defect that you have failed to remedy. The negligence displayed by returning this vehicle to us in an unsafe condition is staggering. The financial and personal toll is immense and completely unacceptable: we have paid for tow trucks three times. We have missed work, leading to a formal warning for my wife's employment. We have incurred costs for rental vehicles and arranging essential transportation for medical appointments and school runs. For $86,000, I expect a vehicle that adheres to basic safety guidelines, not one that endangers my family and others on the road. The vehicle had approximately 56,000 miles when these critical issues became severe, yet it is.

On 12/3/2025, I moved my car in the driveway at 11:15am est without any issue. At 6pm est, myself and 2 young daughters got into the car to head out an hour away. As I went to drive away, I stepped on the brake and the car did not immediately stop…the brakes failed and came to a rolling stop. At that moment all types of warning and lights lit up the dashboard. I placed the car in park exactly where it was in the driveway and left it. I also tried to select the ebrake and it would not engage. I called the dealer first thing the next morning as that had been closed at the time it happened. I was told to bring it in and not to drive it so nobody in my car or else would be at risk. The car was towed at my expense to the dealer. When I got in touch with the dealer that afternoon to get a status. They advised the believe the bcm needed to be updated because it seem to not be communicating properly but wanted to keep it over night to retest it before they sent me home with it. Going to point out several things…thankfully I had not left my house, as I live on a mountain and should that have happened while descending it could have been catastrophic. No warning or anything that the brakes would fail! according to records it shows the did a recall update back in Feb 2025 regarding the bcm- however, how are we sure it truly was fixed or was defective. Gm/chevy needs to take accountability for this defect and safety hazard that could result in death. In reading forums, I am not the only one this has happened to.

When backing up the auto braking brakes very hard sudden stop without warning even though no objects near by. Appears to be from shadows and made worse when it is raining and the camera has water on the lense. I turned off the backup auto braking and it still does it. It brakes hard enough that it pinched a nerve in my neck causing sudden pain which chipped a tooth.

Brake system failure. Brakes were all but gone as I couldn't safely stop my car at an intersection and had to quickly cut in front of on coming traffic to go into a gas station to avoid running a red light.

After my vehicle experienced a brake system failure 3 weeks ago and I got my vehicle back from the dealership. I noticed that my vehicle has no emergency brake so in the event of this failure and/or future brake system failures there was no way to stop my vehicle. Their emergency brake is technically a parking brake that can only be applied when the vehicle is completely stopped. I'm not sure how a vehicle this unsafe would be even legally sold or allowed to operate on the roads.

Brakes just gave out almost hit the car infront and swurved to avoid it the car almost his the wall and another car while trying to correct my truck in a proper lane. Brake pedal went straight down to the bottom and let the truck coast to a stop. Scared to death thank ngod I didn't hit or crash !!!!.

On multiple occasions my vehicle brakes with no warning. So much so I can hear the tires screech ever time. I brought to a dealership and they told me they can’t find the issue and no fault codes. This is understandable due to the fact that it doesn’t always happen. It’ll go so times a full day without happening. It mostly happens on the highway but happened today (24-July-2025) around 17:30. So needless to say this is a huge issue especially seeing I have three small children. Thank you so much for your time in this matter and I hope this finds you well.

Hello, I has problems driving my car like by brakes braking out of nowhere. There was even a couple times I felt like the car swerved, even though I did not do anything to the steering wheel. Then I found out I had a recall that said not to drive the car because it was dangerous so I parked it in my driveway and I have not driven it for many months as I’ve been getting rental cars. Eventually, I brought it into antelope valley Chevrolet and they told me they were going to fix it but then they actually told me that I had to pay around $1000 for a part that I found out later only cost under $100 and takes three minutes to put in. This is apart from Chevrolet and not some knock off from china that I found for under $100 online. So I’m a little upset that I came in for a recall and they’re trying to get me to do a repair for almost $2000. They never even offered me a rental car and they’re threatening me saying that if we don’t move forward with it, they’re gonna charge me $50 a day for storage. I feel like they’re intimidating me to try to make me traded in for a new one, but I am not ready to get a new one. I just want to get my car on the road again.

Unknown but there was many lights on at the time of brake failure. I was driving home from florida to NJ with my four young children in the vehicle on a 65mph highway when all these lights came on, the brakes completely stopped working and it told me it was reducing speed to 62mph for safety because the brakes were failed. It also stated service svc. By the grace of god I was able to off-road it a bit to get it to slow down to a stop. The second time it happened was in my driveway parked. Inbetween the two incidents I brought my vehicle for regular service and asked them to look at the brakes again for me as this is a major safety concern as well as my transmission slipping and they complete refused and only changed my oil.

I was driving the truck on the highway and on slower roads. The trucks auto break kept coming on, it could have caused an accident or worse to my family in the truck and others around us driving. This happened twice before but only did it once. Last night it happened to us around 15 times. We had to get off the roads for everyone’s safety. We haven’t had it inspected yet because it just happened. No lights or warning messages showed up at the time. The check engine light came on at the end of all that tho. When I got out of the truck I could smell the burning of the breaks or tires.

-malfunction---while driving, when I press the brakes to come to a stop, it seems as if the brakes catch but then releases and then catches again. As it releases, it continues to roll. Vehicle is availabe upon request. -safety risk--- because the brake releases and/or eventually not catch at all, this is unsafe because I can roll into traffic -reproduced and/or confirmed--- I have brought my vehicle to a service center to repair a recall and was told to that the issue should be resolved once the recall was complete. The issue was temporarily resolved for approximately one month or so, and now it is back to breaking and releasing. -one can only assume that the vehicle and/or its components have been inspected given that I brought the vehicle to the service center, stated the issue, and was told that the issue should be resolved after it has been serviced.  -there were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to this issue.

My car lost its brakes on [xxx] last December, putting my life and my husband's life in the vehicle at great risk, at that time the vehicle was only 9 months old, after the event the car was taken to the Chevrolet bay dealer in estero, FL, where I bought it with zero miles just a few months ago, it was taken to the dealer to solve the brake problem and the service that corresponded to it, oil change and maintenance by miles, the brake problem was reflected in the Chevrolet application, the dealer offered a supposed repair to the car (December 12, 2024, to December 14, 2024) I have documents that prove that the dealer assured us that the problem had been resolved, that the supposed service was given, but last Thursday, [xxx], just one month after the first accident, the car lost its brakes again on [xxx] at the exit [xxx], causing me to have to drive without brakes, run red lights due to the impossibility of stopping the vehicle, putting my life at risk for the second time. Went to start my vehicle 10min prior to me taking off. Five min into my drive I felt my Tahoe start to lose power stop shifting. Once I was able to pull over to a safe location put the car into park and put the car back into drive and the car will not move.

I was driving down highway and saw a wall of cars and brake lights in the distance, so naturally my foot tried to push the brakes. The pedal was hard, and I panicked because my Tahoe was not stopping at all! I continued to stomp on brake pedal all the way until my car actually hit 3 vehicles and then the guardrail! my brakes did not work , because if they did then I would have easily prevented this accident!!.

The truck vibrates violently when truck I accelerate and feel like I'm losing control of the truck. The transmission is said to have issues with the hydraulic system.

While driving home, the the fac, forward automatic crash, indicator light came on, I applied the brakes and watched to my dismay as my vehicle slowed down but would not stop. I applied steady hard pressure until impact with another vehicle in front of me. The fab, forward automatic braking system never kicked in. I will contact the dealer concerning the above issue.

My right side wheel feels like it’s going to fall off and indicate the abs and emergency parking brake. I believe it’s a wheel hub bearing that’s coming loose or tie rods I’m not sure and one time the emergency parking brake engage on me and I had to pull over to the side and wasn’t able to drive it. When I turn on the engine or driving , idling I smell gasoline really bad.

On 05/12/22, service trailer brake system warning alerts came on. Simply driving my Tahoe doing approximately 30 mph. We were not towing. It did it non stop for the full 30 miles home chiming and blinking.

My name is felipe neris jr. On April 8, 2022, I purchased a 2022 high country Tahoe (VIN 1gnsktkl4nr245843). The window sticker (see attached) states safety & security chevy safety assist; •automatic emergency braking •front pedestrian braking •forward collision alert •rear cross traffic alert •rear pedestrian alert the window sticker also states that the front/rear parking assist was deleted and it will be retrofitted. However, there is no mention that the above mention features were not working. I have inquired and could not get an answer from the dealer, and/or general motors. So, I made an appointment and took it to the dealer for service. After waiting for four hours, the dealer technician gave me a work order (see attached) stating that; “when looking up the vehicle build rpos found that vehicle at this time is not built with park assist, the park assist works with many other modules as image processing and front camera/object detection and without one all the other features the vehicle comes with will not be present until gm comes out with hotfix form concern. ” I paid $82,780 for the high country Tahoe because all the safety features, to find out that no all of them are working properly. This is false advertising, it should had been disclose, that the safety features were not available at this time, therefore not working correctly. I want general motors to issue a warning alert to all buyers, notify them that safety features are not working in order to prevent accidents. 1. ) the wire harness between the body control modules are failing. 2. ) when I tow my boat I could loose braking at any time. Display of " service trailer brake system" overrides all other displays on console. Repetitive chiming noise is very distracting and irritating. 3. ) yes, I took it back in soon after I purchased it (a lot of money) and the chevy rep said it probably was something to do with loose wires concerning the towing. I showed them a picture of the the warning display that I took immediately. They supposedly plugged in a diagnostic reader and said that since the code was no longer showing that they were unable to determine what precisely the issue was, but it was safe to drive. 4. ) component was not inspected by anyone. I was told that if it came on and I was in the area; to bring it in so that they can see the display. 5. ) yes there was a warning message that showed up multiple times. 1 or 2 weeks after being purchased on 3/11/22. I feel that the chevy reps know of the issue ( bad wiring harness between 2 of the body control modules) and acted as if the had no clue of the picture of the warning display that I showed them and they were able to tell me it was safe to drive even though they said they didn't know what the issue was. ???? I like chevy vehicles; it would be nice to see chevy stand behind their product. This is the 2nd Tahoe that I've owned, standing behind your work keeps and promotes customers.

My Tahoe had been making bad noises for several days, no check engine light on. Was driving with my children and went to pull out onto us-127 and the car wouldn't go in drive. Then to get out of the road I couldn't even go in reverse putting me and my three children in danger. My Tahoe has 82,000 miles and is only 4 years old. The transmission has been confirmed by multiple shops that is always the problem with these Tahoe's.

My brakes become very very hard to push when it senses anything near my car. I noticed this was a recall issues so I took it to the dealership (gerry lane chevy in baton rouge, louisiana) and they tried fixing it but were unsuccessful. The second attempted �worked� or at least they said it did. I'm still having issues with it and have since the moment I left the dealership. They refuse to look at it without me paying this time.

Its seems that the abs computer stopped working and the break and traction control assist also.
