This is in addition to complaint # 11621324 the dealer now says it is the fuel pump module that is bad. Same item as on previous recall. They say it will be covered under emission warranty but not the fuel pump. At $1500 for fuel pump. However - they replaced fuel pump before discovering the module issue. They either did not test fuel pump properly, or, fuel pump was not bad, only the module. Or, if bad, the module caused the fuel pump to fail. Either way the fuel pump should be covered under this module recall too as a related cause from the faulty module(s) that were recalled.

Fuel pump module failure. Engine died at a stop light and would not restart. Unable to shift into neutral to tow or remove from hazardous roadway. Part on national backorder.
Noticed a strong smell of gas after refueling one day, a few days later noticed gas leaking from the tank while it was parked in the driveway. Took tank off and fuel pump was rusted almost all the way through. The mechanic said that he had the same thing happen to another 2007 Tahoe just a few weeks prior.

Fuel pump on my 2008 z71 chevy Tahoe was leaking fumes.
I had a system failure light that came on my 2015 Tahoe. When I brought it to voss Chevrolet dealership in centerville ohio, they told me that my high pressure fuel pump was failing and that I would need to replace it along with the fuel lines. Upon further research I learned that gm had issued a recall bulletin (TSB 14858) in 2015 for select 2015 Tahoes. The Tahoe's affected included vehicles with an 8 cylinder engine (rpo l83 or l86). This describes my vehicle but the dealership said gm did not include my VIN in the recall, so they could not fix it under the TSB recall. I called gm directly and they also said my vehicle VIN was not part of the recall. They were not very clear as to which vins they decided to include when all of the Tahoe's were made on the same production line. This is a safety issue and clearly all of the vins should be included in the recall of the high pressure fuel pump and the hoses. Gm called the dealership and paid a portion of the expenses, but I still had to pay more than $300 out of pocket for an issue that is known to gm.
While driving car started sputtering, check engine light came on, Tahoe stopped running and stalled out. Took to local shop to check the check engine code - fuel pump flow control module.

The fuel pump and vapor lines are corroded. The pump and lines have to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe. While driving at a slow speed and making a left turn, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the vehicle lost electrical power. The vehicle was unable to restart and the doors would not open. After approximately thirty minutes, the vehicle was able to be restarted. The contact stated that the failure previously occurred and that the high pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The dealer diagnosed that the amperage from the battery was insufficient, which caused the vehicle to stall. The battery was replaced. The contact was concerned that the dealer was unable to verify if the failure was fully remedied and if the vehicle was safe to be driven. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 52,500.
My 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe developed a fuel leak at the discharge of the fuel pump. The leak occurred on the top of the fuel tank directly below the left rear passenger seat. The leak sprayed fuel all over the gas tank and bottom of the truck body. This is a safety concern due to the possibility of the atomized fuel starting on fire. The driver or passengers could have been severely burned. The vehicle was in motion when the leak occurred. I noticed a very strong smell of fuel, I pulled over and gas was dripping off of the fuel tank. The fuel line depressurized after the engine was shut off and continued to spray gas for 10 to 15 seconds.

The contact owns a 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle had an abnormal fuel odor. Upon inspection, the contact noticed that the fuel pump experienced a leak due to corrosion and the material used to manufacturer the fuel pump. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was repaired with an aluminum fuel pump module. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer informed the contact that they could not assist because there was no recall. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 161,000.
The top of the fuel pump rusts out. The fuel tank has a design flaw that holds water around the fuel pump. The fuel pump and fuel lines on top of the tank rust out and causes gas and fumes to escape the tank. Fuel will spray onto exhaust and under the vehicle causing a fire hazard. Also excessive fuel vapors escape the tank. I have researched the problem online and there are numerous complaints to gm of the problem but gm has not addressed the problem. I am not looking for any monetary gain I simply want gm to address the problem before someone is killed. Some people reported the problem before 100,000 miles and nearly all problems occur before 150,000.
The contact owns a 2012 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled several times without warning. An independent mechanic replaced the fuel pump, but the vehicle continued to stall. The mechanic also noticed that the fuel pump, associated with the wiring, seal, wiring harness, and fuel system, was not getting power. The spare tire was let down to further inspect the area and the mechanic noticed that the pins were disconnected, and there was a significant amount of corrosion to the seals and wiring near the fuel system control module. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the seal and seven of the wires, associated with the wiring harness, were prematurely corroded. It was also diagnosed that the fuel system control module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and indicated that the vehicle was excluded from NHTSA campaign number: 09v145000 (latches/locks/linkages). The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.

Top of fuel pump rotting away and leaking fuel and fumes. Led inst. Cluster not working, unable to est, mileage or any engine info that is posted. Not a moving part not relegated to wear and tear. Should not have gone blank as odometer is a mandated item in a vehicle.
Had the smell of gas while driving, found fuel tank wet with gasoline. Removed fuel tank and found the top of the fuel pump assembly had rusted out and the fuel line fittings on the fuel pump had also rusted out and leaking.
My wife and I bought a vehicle from cardenas superstore in pharr, TX. We've been to them 4 times, in which they've sent our Tahoe to the local gm/Chevrolet dealer in our area. Generally, when the weather is warm, stabilitrak and traction control will disable and we will see a series of warning lights. The abs warning light will go off, the air conditioner temperature will rise to a warm temp, the locks will start unlocking and locking randomly, hard transmission jerks between first and second gear, and little power when trying to increase speed. The first time we went, they said they couldn't find a problem. The second time we went, they clean out all the fuel modules, the third time they couldn't find anything wrong. And finally, on the fourth try, the dealer couldn't find any issues so they put di-electric grease on some of the wiring. Two days later it started acting up again. A reason they may have trouble finding any issues is that after the vehicle is off for some time, it will start up and run without any issue. I've managed to get it over to the local autozone while all the panel was going off, and power loss, and they mentioned a few possible issues. The vehicles voltage regulator may be bad, as well as loss of communcation from the ecm and many sensors(fuel pump, transmission, etc. . . ). We are lucky that we bought an extended warranty on the vehicle or this could have become very costly for us. But none the less, safety is of a concern when driving the Tahoe. Any guidance will be greatly appreciated. -robert neeley.
This vehicle is only 8 years old and fuel lines, fuel pump are rusted to the point of failing to support the pressures within the system. Obviously, the type of steel, thickness of fuel line steel material is not made in such manner as to give a reasonable service life before failing. This is a clear failure of an important system within this vehicle that everyone relies on performing to a level of reasonable trust. This failure is only noticeable when you get a gas leak underneath the vehicle, too late and already putting owners at risk of fires or vehicle dying on highway traffic. This leak usually happens very close to the gas tank which is made of plastic, so you only need a source of ignition to cause great damage and / or loss of life. I noticed this fuel leak on the road, when I smelled gas inside the car so I stopped at a gas station to get gas and checked underneath the vehicle and noticed a gas leak coming from what it looked like on top of the gas tank. On further examination, found that the gas leak was coming from the fuel pump supply line connections which were rusted to the point of leaking like a fountain. Installed a new pump and connections only to find other steel lines also rusted and also leaking. Please, this needs to be looked into before some people unaware of these defects pay dearly for some big car maker like gm using inferior materials so they could raise their profit line, regardless of people safety.
We have been noticing an excessive fresh fuel smell which we believe to be coming from the exhaust when we start our vehicle to warm up prior to driving in the morning. Also sounds like exhaust is missing a little at idle. Took it in and dealer could not find any codes relating to our problem. They did however find a TSB 14858 for possible high pressure pump leak. They replaced high pressure fuel pump and seals with new line and test drove vehicle. They state vehicle is ok. We just picked up vehicle so have not had a chance to see if the problem of smelling excessive gas is still present or not. Will confirm in the morning.
The complete fuel system rotted out from under the vehicle almost causing a fire. The fuel tank, fuel pump module, lock ring, fuel lines all had to be replaced and had to do a fuel spill clean up. Luckily, I caught the fuel spill before the Cadillac converter warmed up. My mechanic advised me to file a complaint with you because this should have never happened and feels gm should issue a recall due to a safety reasons.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact smelled fuel inside and outside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.
Top of the fuel pump and those related fuel lines failed leading to a significant fuel leak, and really expensive repair. This truck is ten years old, fuel system parts shouldn't be rusting out like this. No other vehicle I've ever owned, no matter how old, has had an issue like this. Life safety and fire risk!.

The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that the key failed to turn and start the vehicle after numerous attempts. The vehicle was finally able to start, but the failure recurred. In addition, there was a fuel odor coming from the vehicle. The contact discovered a fuel leak near the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump and the fuel lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The initial failure was not diagnosed. The contact stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 06e043000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
I own a 2005 chevy Tahoe I bought new. Last year in 2012 the fuel lines coming out of the fuel pump rotted out and I had to replace the whole pump. Early this year (2013) the transmission lines rotted out and all had to be replaced, in September this year (2013) the brake lines rotted out and had to be replaced. Lucky for me I was just leaving my driveway. I am very disappointed with this gm vehicle. I don't know if I would ever buy a gm vehicle again.
Fuel pump wiring failed causing fuel pump to burn up. Obvious issue as gm now includes replacement wiring with replacement fuel pumps. Safety issue for the following reasons, any wiring failure in proximity to the fuel tank could cause a fire, failure of the wiring resulting in failure of the fuel pump leaves the vehicle immediately stranded, whether on a high speed freeway, in local traffic, in a an unsafe area or sitting in your driveway. There is no symptom so that preventive maintenance can be performed.

So when ever I fuel my car at the pump by clicking the fuel pump to auto start, the pump usually stop pumping after about 15 sec, and then you will have to manual fill again with your hang or start the auto fueling again. So today when I started fueling my car again after about 4 or 5 gallon of fueling had already enter the vehicle, the fuel started to spray out from the nozzle where you place the fuel pump out, fuel got all over my body. I quick notice it, and turned the auto start pumping feature off with my hands. Afterward, I went to my car and check how fill was the tank, and it was only 3/4 full. It wasn't full I was quiet surprised to my finding that gasoline started spraying out.

While driving on a four lane divided roadeway at 40 mph, I noticed that the truck did not accelerate when I depressed the accelerator pedal and appeared to be losing speed. I was less than 1 mile from my home and decided to turn around and return. I had 6 children ages 4-20 in the car travelling to a thanksgiving day football game. When I came to the next light about 200 yards from when I noticed the problem and began to turn, the car stalled and I lost power steering and power brakes. I was able to bring the car to a stop, but was now perpendicular to oncoming traffic and could not move forward or backward. I asked the three oldest children to exit the vehicle in the active roadway and push the truck slightly uphill to the side of the right most lane to clear the intersection. I then had to tow the car back to the house. I found that the fuel pump fuse had blown and replaced it. Despite this the car was still hard to start. I researched the problem on the internet and found numerous references to this vehicle blowing fuses, in all cases requiring replacement of the fuel pump. I noted in one complaint that there was an NHTSA campaign (05v155000) related to this problem on the same model year Chevrolet suburban that resulted in a recall. I am concerned that a recall for another nearly identically constructed vehicle affecting the same component installed in my vehicle would nopt warrant notice to me that I could suffer the same failure placing occupants in a very dangerous situation. Had I been notified of the likelihood of this occurance that could result in my vehicle and its occupants being stranded in an active roadway, I would have initiated preventative repairs. This campaign, or at a minimum an advisory notice, should have been made to owners of all vehicle employing the same faulty component.

I was driving on e-470 westbound near quebec when the car shutdown completely. No power. The car then would not start and had to be towed to the dealer to have a computer check. They told me it was the fuel pump, after a week, when I was having it towed to my mechanic for the repair, I decided to try to start it and it started right up. I drove it to my mechanic who checked the fuel pump and said it was fine. They could not find a reason why this happened. Same with another mechanic. Since then (I had owned the car for 5 months at that point) this has happened four more times, the latest on may 9th. Again it's been towed and again I am trying to find a permanent solution. I am now finding out the passlock anti-theft system malfunctions and cuts off fuel to the pump because the car thinks it is being stolen. I have also learned it has been a common problem in many GMC models over many years. Sometimes the passlock system can be reset (though that has never worked for me). The only way to permanently fix the problem is to disable the passlock anti-theft system. These systems should be removed from these cars. I would rather my car be stolen then shut down at 65 mph or when my wife is driving home from downtown denver at 10:30 at night through not so great parts of town.
My wife and I bought the vehicle new. It was always kept in a garage and driven very little. As of today it only has 30,000 miles on it. To begin with, on or near March 2007 after exiting the vehicle I noticed a strong smell of gasoline. I looked under the car and I saw a fairly heavy dripping of gas from the top of the gas tank. I drove it to a mechanic that I have been using for many years. He told me that he had a hard time finding where the gas was coming from but with a mirror , he was able to see that it was coming from the fuel pump or what he called the fuel sending unit. He said it appearred to be coming from the pump in thr top of the tank and that it was badly rusted and needed to be replaced. I called the dealer from who we had bought the Tahoe and asked if there were any recalls to this. They said no. I should also tell you that the mechanic told me that he had replaced many of this same tanks. He said it was built in such a way as to be shaped like a bowl and that the water just laid in it. It cost me 750. 00 to get a new fuel sending unit put in. About 4 years later, the exact same thing happened. The entire top of the pump was rusted out and again gas leaked out . Enough gas leaked out to almost cover my entire garage floor. This really kind of scared me. Even just any kink of a small spark and not only me but my hole house with five other people not might of got hurt, with this much gas we would have been dead. . Again I checked for recalls of which there were none and ended having again a new fuel pump installed. The only difference being that he.
The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated that he noticed fluid leaking from the fuel pump. The failure was noticed on two separate occasions. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was advised to the contact that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired twice for the same failure. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 22,000.
While driving on the highway at 70 mph engine seized. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, who found the problem was the fuel pump. Consumer was concerned that this was the third fuel pump replaced by the dealer within less then a year, and the problem recurred.
