Three problems related to engine clicking and tapping noises have been reported for the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Tl- the contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, a clanking noise was heard before black fume were seen coming from the hood. The vehicle suddenly caught on fire. A police and fire report were filed. The fire was extinguished by the fire marshall. No injuries were sustained. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the engine was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. On another occasion, while driving at approximately 40 mph, the contact attempted to change lanes and another vehicle attempted to make a u-turn resulting in the contact crashing into the driver side of the vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. In addition, black and white fumes with fire were seen coming from the hood of the vehicle. The fire was extinguished by an individual. A police and fire report were filed. There were no injuries sustained. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 148,000. Jo.
The engine made a rumbling/clicking sound, shut off suddenly, the power steering had gone out, and the power brakes failed. The dealer determined that the engine needed to be replaced. Ts.
While traveling at 70 mph, driver heard a ticking noise, suddenly engine died. Driver had to force vehicle to the side of the road. It was discovered that the engine had blown, the 4wd has also been repaired twice and the front brakes shake when applied, mileage to date 12,000-8/02.
