2002 Trailblazer transmission failure at 76,000 miles.
2002 chevy Trailblazer - we had the transmission in our 2002 Trailblazer replaced in sept of 2006 because the sun gear failed and ruined the transmission. This truck has not towed anything. Now 35000 miles later, the same problem. This is the second transmission that had to go into this SUV with the towing package. We don't tow anything and yet the transmission fails from highway driven miles. This is obviously some type of defect after researching the internet, I have found many people having the same problem. I am tired of wasting hard earned money to pay for a manufactures faulty parts. They even have a service bulletin stating a potential problem with the part and don't do anything about it. I am tired of paying 2200. 00 + to correct their problems. When the transmission failed again a few days ago, my wife was nearly run into by the car behind her. I am seriously considering legal action.
Failure of transmission on 9-3-08. Near collision with oncoming car because of loss of power as I turned left and tried to accelerate across the center line. The car would no longer move forward or in reverse. The car was towed to a transmission shop. They told me that it was the failure of the sun shell, a $39 dollar part. The entire ordeal cost me over $3600. 00 and climbing. The failure of the sun shell sheared off the cheap gears and the fragments filtered through my transmission causing more damage. My car had 76,094 miles on it at the time. The owners manual states that service for the transmission is not due until 100,000 miles. I thought I was buying a dependable car. This, I consider a major safety issue. If I was in traffic on the freeway and the transmission failed I would have been in serious trouble. I can only imagine what would have happened if was in the path of a semi truck. In the name of safety and the consumers pocket books who fund this engineering gaff, I think this issue should evoke serious consideration by the NHTSA to enforce a recall of the sun shell transmission part in all gm cars.
With no prior warning of defect, my 2002 Trailblazer would not accelerate while trying to merge into highway traffic. After initial look through for any obvious signs of what may be wrong, I was unable to drive my car and had it towed to nearest dealership where a transmission failure was quickly diagnosed and I was quoted a repair cost of just under $5,000 !!! my wife and I think this is pretty odd considering the regular maintenance and absence of signs of trouble, so we researched the internet only to find out that transmission problems (particularly on 2002 Trailblazer) are very common. It is believed that general motors is very much aware of this and the phrase "silent recall" kept coming up.
My 2002 chevy Trailblazer has had multiple drive train/transmission failures. It currently has 99000 miles on it and has been in for transmission complaints/work on 5 separate occasions. The last occasion being Nov. 28, 2007 at which time the car would roll backward while in park. Upon removing the transmission pan metal shavings were found. Currently this vehicle is at the dealership awaiting service/ call back from general motors corporation customer care as to whether they will cover failure due to the warranty of 5 year was up 8/31/07, with some transmission parts warranted from repair at 90,000 miles. However, the chevy service garage cannot guarantee that it is the previously repaired parts failure, therefore cannot guarantee coverage under warranty. I have 2 small children that are with me daily in this vehicle, I have had to have it towed due to transmission failure twice and now the vehicle rolls out of park. These aforementioned facts make me fear for the safety of myself and my family in this vehicle.
My wife heard a clunk when driving. She asked me to drive the vehicle the next day and the transmission failed.
I have a 2002 Trailblazer. The transmission has failed twice since I bought it. The first time it was at 26,990 miles and the second time it was at 61,062 miles. Both times the transmission failed it was without any warning while I was driving it. The transmission would not move from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd unless I took my foot off of the gas. In both instances I also lost reverse. The first time it happened I was lucky because it was under warranty. The second time it happened it was 2 months and 1,000 miles after my extended warranty expired. The dealership quoted $2,038 to fix it (not replace it) but offered me a 10% discount. I didn't have a choice because I needed my vehicle. Since then I have found that this is a frequent problem that gm is aware of however they will not make a recall. What are my options? this is definitely a safety concern as there is no warning when the transmission fails.
2002 chevy Trailblazer transmission failure. I was driving vehicle, stopped at a stop sign and when attempting to drive, vehicle wouldn't move. I only had a 1st and 2nd gear, no reverse, drive, or 3rd gear at all. I have researched this issue and found hundreds of similar complaints, some were near serious consequences. Public consensus seems to be that gm is aware of the problems (due to hundreds of phone call complaints) but refuses to recall transmissions until NHTSA forces them to. Gm has been offering a 30% rebate on the repair costs, which exceeded $2,000. 00 I haven't yet spoken to gm, but am sure to get the "run around". I have to have the vehicle towed to a repair shop today.
Chevrolet 02 Trailblazer transmission failure.
Transmission failure.
The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. On January 17, 2007, the contact heard a loud boom and the transmission failed while driving 10 mph. He then coasted the vehicle at 5 mph to the nearest shop. The mechanic stated that the actuator fell from the transmission and the entire transmission failed. The contact was also informed that all four tires were rotted and needed to be replaced. The engine size was unknown. The current mileage is 28,000 and failure mileage was 22,900. The consumer stated wants to gm to pay the cost of repairs for the defects in the vehicle, however consumer is stating not responsible for defect the part provided is not the same part stated in the recall. Updated 06/08/07.
2002 Trailblazer transmission has failed twice . First failure was at 38,000 miles and second failure is at 83000 miles. The failures happened both times at the exact same location as I was entering a major highway from a stop sign. Purchased a new transmission at 38,000 miles costing over $1300 dollars to get a new transmission vs. A rebuilt one. I believe gm know there is a problem with this vehicle however , fail to fix the problem. I am afraid this vehicle will result in harm or death to my family if the transmission keep going out this way.
Transmission failed. Diagnosis was reverse sun shell failure (just like all the other complaints listed on this site)! gm refuses to offer any cost assistance with the repair or acknowledge that there is an obvious defect that should be recalled!!!.
- while driving the contact stated that vehicle seemed to shift into neutral and he couldn't get it to go faster than 25 mph. The contact has had the transmission repaired once before. The consumer stated the transmission failed twice. Updated 02/27/07.
Transmission failed in 2002 Trailblazer on 12/21 with 93,000 miles while traveling with family on christmas weekend. Left stranded on highway and had to be towed. Will not go in reverse and will not go into second gear. Mechanic said gm parts are inferior and he will replace with aftermarket which will be much better. Transmission should last much longer than this. I have had vehicle with 250,000 miles on the odometer and not had transmission problems. Gm should admit there is a problem and recall this transmission.
Automatic transmission failure. Will not shift into 3rd. When attempting to shift from 2nd to 3rd, it goes into neutral and engine races.
Summary: -2002 Trailblazer lt 2wd -transmission failure at 78,000 miles -near accident with two children in car ages 2 and 7 -major repair cost -significant safety problem -multiple listings of identical failures (sun shell/ reaction gear) planetary system. -reportedly known defective and (under designed) part. This will be the NHTSA's responsibility to investigate and sort out. -some reports of a "silent recall" however never acknowledged with my conversations -no warning of oncoming failure -owners manual doesn't recommend any transmission service until 100,000 miles -never towed anything -wife driven/ garage kept -significant engineering accomplishments in transmissions have been made in the past decade with materials and lubricants. There is absolutely no reason a tranny should fall apart on an automobile towing or not under 100,000 miles especially if your following the manufacturers maintenance recommendations. -gm covered 30% after lengthy time. -technician described failure "when we see these problems its almost always what we call the sun-shell grenades" now, since you limit your description to 2000 characters which doesn't allow a complete description I will leave you with the summary and give you the location of the full report which I hope you take the time to review because of the safety problem. . Transmission failed - dealer said probably due to the sun shell. When given the option to rebuild or replace I took replacement due to cost and warranty. Cost me $3,000 for replacement.
2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer - at 60,000 miles the transmission failed, I. E. No reverse, and only first and second gear. Dealer diagnosed as a broken reaction shell. They replace the reaction shell and overhauled the transmission. At 69,000 miles had exactly the same symptoms. Dealer diagnosed as broken reaction internal gear caused by owner rocking car to get unstuck. Therefore the warranty from the first failure was no good. G. M. Told owner that they would replace trans as a courtesy if owner paid $500 deductible .
I have a 2002 Trailblazer. The transmission was reprogrammed twice in 2002. Last month the transmission failed as I exited the off ramp of a highway. The vehicle was towed to the closest Chevrolet dealership. They called me a day later and said the sun shield had fallen apart and there were fragments of the transmission all over the place. This vehicle is out of warranty as it has 77,000 miles on it. The dealership said it cost 3,000 to fix the transmission and is willing to submit 1,500 for reimbursement to gm. This stinks as a transmission should last a lot longer than this and it certainly does not make anyone want to go buy a car from Chevrolet.
(1) no events leading up to failure (2) transmission failed at 44,000 miles, first time; failed at 99,000 miles, second time (3) had transmission rebuilt, first time; not repaired yet, second time.
Vehicle was not shifting properly transmission failure ( sun shell spleen the works). Had an inspection and had to have new sun shell spleen, reconditioning of transmission. $ 3000. 00 to fix, I see many complaints on the 2002 Trailblazer. This should be looked into, I called the manufacturer to tell them about the failure and they e-mailed me and thank me for the e-mail. My vehicle only had 49,665 mileage. I should have saved the parts they were in very bad shape. This failure was without any notice.
My wife was driving her 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer when the transmission catastrophically failed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer, and the diagnosis was "sun shell spline failure" in the transmission.
My vehicle is a 2002 Chevrolet trail blazer of which I purchased new. Since day one the vehicle has been plagued with a multitude of problems. It has had an engine replacement, clutch fan ($620. 00), tail lights, hvac controls $(200), exhaust manifold, recall items and now finally a transmission failure where the sun shell/gear let go costing me ($1858. 03). Fast forward to today just 3 months after the transmission was "completely overhauled), the valve body id failing where the dealer has told me that "is not part of the 12 month, 12,000 warranty on the transmission. ".
Transmission failture.
Transmission failed due to band failure for the third and forth gears, completely burn up. Contacted Chevrolet. Dealer stated that they did have transmission problems. . . . . .
Consumer states that transmission failed without warning while driving. Vehicle only had 200 miles. Dealer replaced transmission and 2 weeks later replacement began losing power. Dealer serviced, but problem has recurred. Ts.
