Transmission lines corroded.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2011

I have a 2002 Trailblazer that is currently getting it's 3rd transmission installed due to failure. The first one was replaced in 2005 at 48,000 miles. I was told by gm it was replaced with a new one, which I understand has a 100,000 mile warrenty. I am now having another one put in after 80. ,000 miles being put on the new one at a cost of $3000. When I contacted gm regarding this I was told: "at some point the customer has to take responsibility for their own vehicle, gm is not going to assist you with this issue". This will ablsolutely be the last gm product I own.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2010

2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer with 86,000 miles on it, noticed a large amount of fluid under vehicle while parked in my driveway. Took the vehicle to our mechanic and was advised that two of the four lines that carry the transmission fluid are cracked/corroded.

4 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2010

I own a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext which has been impeccably maintained by me. Prior to going on a vacation I brought the truck into my mechanic for an inspection as usual and he informed me the transmission fuel lines had to be replaced due to excessive corrosion. He also advised me that this was a common problem with this model which prompted Chevrolet to change the design. He checked to see if it was on a recall list but was not. I checked the NHTSA site and have noticed numerous complaints on this same issue. Why has this not been addressed with gm and placed on a recall list for replacement by a dealership?.

5 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2010

Driving at posted 55 mph our 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer with 50,000 miles on it started to blow smoke behind it. Before we could pull off the road safely, the engine rpm went crazy and the transmission stopped working. It was later found that the transmission cooler line failed due to corrosion and sprayed oil on the exhaust system resonator. On careful inspection, the trans cooler lines are corroded in many places. The lines are so close to the exhaust system that an insulation material had been placed over the lines and may have contributed to holding moisture and accelerating the rust through. I am waiting for new lines and do not know if the transmission is destroyed.

6 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2010

My 2002 Trailblazer transmission cooler line are so corroded that they started to leak and cause a smoke condition . .

7 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2010

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving at 40 mph, there was an unusual increase in engine rpms to 4,000 and the vehicle decelerated. The vehicle was taken to a local repair facility where the contact was informed that the third gear was burned out. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact believed NHTSA campaign id number: 03v075000 (power train: automatic transmission) was the cause of the failure however, she was unable to confirm if her VIN was included in the recall. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 105,570 and the current mileage was 105,580.

8 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2010

2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer my 4-wheel drive indicator lights up sporadically. It also jerks from 2-wheel to 4-wheel. I am in agreement that this needs to be recalled.

9 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2010

I have an 02 chevy Trailblazer. I purchased it in 08. The 4 wheel drive is defective. I took it to the dealership 3 months after I bought it to report that the 4 wheel drive indicator light was switching around on its own and causing the truck to put itself in 4wd while I was driving. I was told that it wasn't a problem and the 4wd box needed to be reset but it was nothing that would cause any problems. Today while driving to work I was almost in a wreck because the truck jumped from 2wd to 4wd by itself and my truck started jerking and slowed down (on the highway). After doing some research it seems that a lot of people (especially those with the 02) have this same problem. They need to do a recall and fix the problem before people get hurt. I'm sure I'm not the only person to report this problem. Please help us. If you have time please at least read through the thread on the first link. This is not an isolated incident. . Read more...

11 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2010

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext. While the vehicle was parked he attempted to shift gear out of park position and it shifted into a different gear. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who advised him that the gear shift needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure continued to occur. The dealer diagnosed the failure and advised him that the gear shift needed to be repaired. The contact referenced recall NHTSA campaign id number: 03v075000, power train:automatic transmission and was advised by the dealer that the recall repair had already been performed. The failure had been on-going for the last year. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage was 126,000.

12 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2009

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While shifting the vehicle into park, the gear selector displayed drive. While taking his foot off of the brake pedal, the vehicle lurched forward. He speculated that the retainer clip, that holds the shifter cable to the gear selector arm on the transmission, had fractured. He was in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer. The failure mileage was 75,100. Updated 12/01/09 the transmission cable linkage failed. The consumer pulled to a stop, applied the brake and moved the shifter to park. When he removed his foot from the brake, the vehicle lurched forward. He immediately applied the brake again, turned off the engine and set the parking brake. He verified that the shifter was in park. He also observed the transmission indicator on the instrument panel indicators that the vehicle was still in drive. He attempted to move the shifter from the park position, but the safety interlocks would not allow the shifter to be moved, even after depressing the brake pedal. When he looked under the vehicle and checked the linkage he saw the shifter cable was no longer attached to the transmission range selector lever. There was a white nylon bushing at the end of the shifter that holds the cable end on the selector lever. One side of the bushing had broken off. The consumer was able to make a temporary repair by manually moving the transmission range selector lever to the park position and placing the linkage cable end back onto the end of the selector level. Updated 12/01/09.

13 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2009

Transmission oil cooler line is leaking.

14 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2009

2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer LS transmission cooler lines rusted through causing transmission to burn up 3rd and 4th gears of automatic transmission. It appears that by reading the other two submissions that general motors has a problem and to where they located the cooler lines to cause rust through. I did have some brake work that I believe caused the rusted cooler lines to be jarred enough for the lines to be sped up to the rupture point.

15 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2009

Transmission cooler lines rusted through.

16 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2009

Leaking transmission hoses due to excessive corrosion due to poor design on 2002 chevy Trailblazer ext.

17 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2009

We were driving our 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer to the local mall and upon speeding up to 35 mph and changing to faster lane, transmission gave way and vehicle immediately decelerated while traffic behind us was approaching. A bit of a scary moment, but there was no accident. There was no warning that this was about to happen, and I had my wife and three-year-old in the vehicle. The transmission was completely wrecked on a vehicle that is well maintained and only has about 62,000 miles on it. After reading on the internet this seems to be a well documented problem, but I also believe a safety issue, and gm has never recalled these transmissions to address this issue.

18 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2009

Wiper motor was recalled for hestation but still does the same thing after being fixed replaced fan clutch 2008 transmission shifts/hesitates from 1st to 2nd cruise control stopped working when the tranny problem started.

19 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2009

92,0000 miles, we do no towing. I've had vehicles that get 150,000 miles with no transmission problems. Driving vehicle when all of a sudden it shifted into second gear, I pulled to the side of the road and stopped. Put vehicle in park and shut engine. Looked under hood & saw no obvious problems. Restarted vehicle and drove 3/10 m. And repeated same mannerism of shifting into 2nd gear. Had vehicle towed and shop told us we need a new transmission.

20 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2009

1. Backing out of a parking space. Heard a loud pop. 2. Reverse no longer works, cant back out of parking spaces. Will not shift into 2nd or 4th gear. Transmission needs to be replaced. 3. Transmission must be rebuilt or new transmission installed. Costs between 1500 and 3000 dollars. Car only has 67,000 miles on it and the transmission should not fail this quickly.

21 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2008

On 11/14/07 I purchased a "02 Trailblazer from salisbury Chevrolet, in scotia, NY. On December 21, 2007 I had the transfer switch replaced because the 4wd would randomly switch from 2wd to 4lo or awd. I never had to use the 4wd last winter, snow falls weren't that bad. Went to switch it on this year on 12/19 and come to find out that my 4wd was not functioning. Took it the dealer and it will cost me $600 to repair. The "service 4wd" light never came on.

22 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2008

Was pulling into work parking lot when a heard a quick bang followed by screeching noise. I tried parking but could not go into reverse. Forward gears appear to work fine but reverse is completely gone. My 2002 Trailblazer has under 70,000 miles on it and has always been maintained in excellent condition. After reading some of the complaints online, I suspect that once I take it for repair I will be told it is the sun shell and corresponding gears. I'm glad I wasn't in a dangerous position when the tranny went out but I completely agree that the sun shell issue in these Trailblazers is a huge safety issue and it's sickening that as of today a recall to correct the issue is not out there! I suppose it takes a few tragedies for someone to do something about it but I'm hoping that's not the case this time.

23 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2008

I had 37000 miles on my SUV when my sunshield went out luckily it was still under warranty. Then at 75,000, it went out again, I had to pay for half the cost. Now at 134,000 miles my transmission has gone out. I have been round and round with the gm people. They do not want to do anything. I have had it rebuilt twice and it keeps going out. I keep telling the dealership that there is something causes the transmission to keep going out but they don't want to listen and want to put a brand new one in. I think gm should have to pay for everything I have spend so far and also I will not ever by a gm vehicle again. I will buy foreign. I am still out of commission.

24 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2008

As I was driving up a hill in ohio, my car tried to downshift and made a grinding sound and I temporarily lost control of the vehicle causing me to swerve off of the road. I immediately took my foot off the gas and when I regained control, the car no longer shifted correctly. Apparently my sunshell broke which I guess is a common problem with cars that have this sunshell in them. It ended up costing $2500 to fix my vehicle because gm uses inferior car parts. This is a safety hazard and a recall should be initiated.

25 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2008

Driving along and hear a thump, rpm's rev up. Transmission not shifting properly. Then, when I try to put the car in reverse, there is no reverse! this is the second time this has happened on this vehicle. I've read that this happened to numerous people, and it has something to do with the sunshell part of the transmission. Chevy needs to recall this as it is an ongoing problem.

26 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. When the contact shifted into reverse, he noticed that the rpm's would rise; however, the vehicle would not move. He also noticed that the transmission would not shift from first to second gear unless the contact released the pressure off of the throttle. The vehicle was taken to a transmission shop and it was discovered that the sun shield needed to be replaced. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current and failure mileages were 39,544.

27 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle would not move and the rpm's increased. 29 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2008

No warning at all. Sounded like I hit something when pulling into a parking spot. I put the truck in reverse and heard the same thing. At 85,000 the transmission was shot and I had to spend almost 1,300. 00 to have a rebuilt put in. This truck has been well-maintained and is in very good condition. I am very angry.

34 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2007

I was driving down the road (fortunately in a 25 mph zone) when the transmission made a loud clunk then whine, after which the engine revved and I lost any ability to change gears. After stopping the car, I found only the reverse was not working - the other gears will shift over 3000 rpm. I have been told it is a faulty sunshell gear in the transmission.
