I contacted gm after I found that several people have had the same problem they told me to take it to a gm garage and have it diagnosed and they would be in contact with me they finally told me that they could not help me because 1st I did not buy from a gm dealership, 2 I did not have my service and maintanance done by a gm garage and 3 because I was a second owner of the Trailblazer. So intern I had to pay $2730. 27 to get the transmission replaced.

42 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2006

Transmission went out at 56,000 miles. Dealer diagnosed problem as a faulty sunshell, which from what I am reading, is a problem on many gm vehicles. I called gm customer assistance since I can not afford the $1,300 bill for this problem, and they say they will not offer me any assistance since I purchased the vehicle used. Regardless, the faulty part is an issue gm needs to address!!!.

43 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2006

2002 chevy Trailblazer with perfect service history, has constant transmission issues and now has a blown transmission and gm had offered to pay for half, ok'd with my local dealer and later changed their mind after three weeks of trying to get it to be fixed. Because they have strung me along I now have a $3000 bill to fix it and a $1200 rental bill because they told me to hold off getting it fixed because they could help me.

44 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2006

46 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2005

The transmission on my 2002 chevy Trailblazer has failed with only 43,000 miles. The cost of replacement is $3,200. We purchased the vehicle used in February of 2005 from a very reputable dealership in the harrisburg PA area. It is very disappointing that you take special care of your vehicle then it has this major problem. After doing some research on the internet I see I am not the only one with this problem it seems to happen quite often on low mileage Trailblazer.

47 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2005

My 4wd gave in and broke the front axle and seized the front diff. This happened in April and was repaired by gm. Gm payed 40% of the cost to repair. The truck had 68000 miles on it at the time. The truck now has 72000 miles on it and the trasmittion needs to be replaced. I guess the sunshell is at fault, but regardless, pretty much the whole trucks drive train has needed to be replaced before 75000 miles. This shouldn't be the case and makes me wonder if this vehicle is a lemon.

48 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2005

Driving to work, engine seemed to rev up and didn't shift correctly. After going to work (interstate drive @20 mi). My return home, check engine light came on. Had dealer and 2 other mechs check it and they found nothing wrong. Fluid was good and level correct. No codes stored. Had flush and new filter - same thing.

51 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2005

Sun gear failed in transmission put into reverse went 6"-12" loud clunk could drive ahead in low gear 2002 Trailblazer had 43,000 miles. Dealer fixed under warranty no charge by replacing sun gear.

52 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2005

We own a 2002 chevy Trailblazer 4wd with 57,000 miles. On the date of the incident, a clunk was heard from the transmission and the transmission would not shift properly and there was no reverse gear. The vehicle had to be towed to the dealer. After inspection and road test, it was determined that the "sun shell spleen" had stripped and the sun gear and sun shell drum had to be replaced along with a reconditioning of the transmission. This repair came to the tune of 2022 dollars. Our service manager was able to have the factory cove half of the repair as a "goodwill gesture. " I am also an employee at the dealer and had access to repair information provided by Chevrolet. Apparently, the material the original sun shell was made of was not able to withstand prolonged high temperatures that are found in the trans. For the 2003 model year and later, general motors made the sun shell out of a "more heat resistant material" which will "hopefully" prevent the problem from recurring. In my opinion, this is equivalent to general motors admitting that the original trans in our vehicle was of substandard quality right from the manufacturer. This problem has eroded away any confidence we have in gm and do not feel safe driving this vehicle for fear of the problem recurring in a much more dangerous situation that could lead to a loss of control and possible a major accident.

53 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2005

2002 chevy Trailblazer LS 2wd 4. 2l has 79,200 miles on it driving in town, parked in a parking spot to drop wife off. Put truck in reverse to back out of parking spot. Hear a loud "pop" and now I have no reverse, no overdrive. Car goes to 6000 rpm before shifting intot he next gear. Take truck to dealer, cost is 1800 to fix the transmission, I call gm customer assistance, tell me there is nothing they can do for me. Sun shell gear is one of the parts that need to be replaced.

56 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2005

Transmission went out on 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer.

57 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2005

My 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer blew its transmission at 47,000 miles. The car started making a clunking sound in the rear end when accelerating out of turns. Eventually it quit going in reverse. The dealer says the transmission needs to be replaced at a minimum cost of $2700. It has only been used for city and highway driving-- no heavy towing. It is apparent from all the similar problems I have found posted on the internet that this is an inherent defect in the car and should be a recall.

58 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2005

I had a problem with the engine slipping on my 2002 chevy Trailblazer. I took it to the dealer and they said it was the 4 wheel drive button and replaced it. I am now having another problem with the transmission. When I start it up the brake light and abs light stays on. When I put it into gear the engine keeps winding up and will not shift. I then have to pull over and turn the vehicle off then start it back up. This problem occurs on a daily basis.

59 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2005

We bought a new 2002 Trailblazer. Never used the four wheel drive until it had 39,000 miles on it. At that time, found out we would need to replace a transmission module. This was replace about three months ago. My wife was driving the truck down the interstate in two wheel drive. Without warning, she felt the vehicle lose power and slow down. She glanced down at the electronic switch indicator for drive condition. The indicator light was flickering between four wheel hi and four wheel lo. If there had been other traffic around, it could have been a serious accident since she slowed down under 40 mph during this ordeal. I was driving the vehicle and was stopped waiting to make a left hand turn. The drive indicator, without warning, started to switch between two wheel drive, four wheel drive hi and four wheel drive low. I didn't move. After about 5 seconds, the lights stopped flashing and the two wheel drive indicator lamp was on. I proceeded to make the turn. The dealer (glenway Chevrolet, cincinnati, OH) finds nothing wrong with the vehicle. Their suggestion: we start to replace parts, at our cost.

60 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2005

Purchased vehicle 6 months ago from a dealer. It had 54,ooo miles on it and it now has around 60,000 miles. My hisband noticed that the transmission was not shifting properly at times, we mentioned it to dealer and they said that nothing was wrong with the transmission on our way back from town one day and before the day was over and we could get back home we had lost all but 1st and 2nd gears, took to our mechanic and transmission has to be replaced on this vehicle with only 60,ooo miles on it. Of course the warranty had expired, and now we are stuck with repairing a vehicle that should have been taken care of before this.

61 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2004

After starting my 2002 4wd Trailblazer (38025 miles) it would not go into reverse. It will go forward with severe difficulty getting out of first gear. Mechanic says transmission is shot. I did not get the extended waranty but I called cheverolet for assistance to see if they would help. Chevy said to take it dealer for diagnosis, have them fix it and then they would decide if they would help. My chevy dealer said it would be at least $300 to diagnose. If it needed a new transmission it would then cost $2500 for the transmission and $900 to put it in. Chevy wants me to do all of this before they will decide to help or not, bs. Dealer also told me the best he had ever seen chevy do for someone that was out of manufacturers warranty was to pay half, and that he said is extremely rare.

62 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2004

After starting the vehicle it would be hard to shift/ drive/reverse gears. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. Hard to shift when cold.

63 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2004

Was at a stop light and when the light turned green tried to drive. Truck was in drive and was acting as if in neutral. Almost was hit by a trailway bus. Truck will not drive in drive, or reverse. Alot of noise from rear end as if truck is about to fall apart. Also, truck rattles when driving 50 miles an hour. Time to turn in. . . Why should we pay for defective vehicles that have had the mechanical problems brought before Chevrolet dealerships and owners. Time for class action lawsuit. You may contact me. . . Deceptive practices, and product liability issues.

64 Automatic Transmission problem

66 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2004

I bought a new 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer in January 2002. When I reached 50,000 miles in 2004, reverse and 4th gear suddenly stopped working. I had the transmission rebuilt and sun gear replaced at aamco of charlottesville. Now I took, at 99,000 miles, it in for a fluid change and was told the fluid looked bad and they were concerned I might have more transmission problems. Transmission rebuilt should not be needed every 50,000miles. I do mostly highway miles, and very rarely tow anything.

67 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2004

I own a 2002 chevy Trailblazer (purchased new) and had the transmission go out for the 3rd time in 9 months. This time the dealer has agreed to replace the transmission. But I understand there is a known defect in this new transmission (per the dealer it is in the "reverse shell" area), the same defect was in my original transmission. The dealer has also implied that perhaps the problem has to do with how we drive the vehicle and the way we shift gears! I strongly disagree. I've had several vehicles over my 37 years of driving and have never had a problem like this. I started having problems with the Trailblazer back in April 2002 when the switch used to select from 2h to 4h to 4l began flashing the selector lights in each of the positions. I brought it back to the dealer but they found nothing and said I would have to continue to drive it until I got some sort of solid indication. In April of 2003 (about 14 months after I purchased the Trailblazer). While driving down the interstate the vehicle suddenly shifted from 2h to 4h and finally to 4l as I brought it to a stop. I had to turn off the engine to get it out of gear. This happened a second time a few minutes later and then quit. In may 2003 and in June 2003 I had to have the transmission repaired. Now the transmission has gone out again in January 2004. This time they are replacing the transmission but I understand that this transmission has a defect ( as previously described) in it. They assure me that I won't have any more problems and have offerred a $2,000 rebate on a future purchase. After 3 transmission problems in 9 months, I have little faith in this vehicle.

68 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2003

On at least 6 occasions my Trailblazer would not start, and on one occasion, while driving the transmission fluid spilled all over the road and the car would not move. I was stuck in the middle of the street for an hour and a half until the tow truck came. The dealership keeps telling me its the alarm system, but the alarm is not out of the car and it still doesn't start some time.

69 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2003

Problems with vehicle's transmission. The transmission went into a mode which did not allow the vehicle to travel over to 15 mph when the transmission was placed in the drive position.

70 Automatic Transmission problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2003

I own a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer ltz. When driving at around 54 mph and 1600 rpm's the SUV produces a vibration that can be heard and felt throught out the vechicle. To the best of my knowledge neither gm or the dealerships knows what is causing the vibration. It is with out a doubt something that should not be happening. I also know other people with the same SUV having the same problem. Does it do damage to my SUV every time it happens? most importantly it happens at highway speed. I don't want something to go wrong at 54 mph. Thank you. Any questions please feel free to contact me. *please note I entered todays date below but it happens all the time and has been since I bought the SUV brand new.
