Transmission Noise problems of the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer

I'm driving down the road with traffic behind me. Suddenly my rpm jolt up to five a horrible noise comes from engine and I loose all power. If I even touch gas a little rpm jump to five and transmission whines very loud. Car behind me slmmms on breaks to avoid hitting me. I throw on cautions and have to push my car off road while cars are trying to ger around me at ten at night on my way home from work. I have to have my husband load our three kids in his tiny eclipse well after bedtime to drive the 40 minutes to come get me and pay 150 dollars to have car towed off side of road back to my house. Where it now sitting with blown transmission and broken transmission lines.

I was driving about 20mph after a turn and I heard a loud clunk then followed a loud winding noise. I could not go more than 25mph so I slowly made it to my home. Once I was in park I tried to go in reverse and found that I had lost it. I also lost 2nd and 4th. I got an estimate of $1485. 00 so I had to park it until I could save the money up in these hard times. I took it in to my local transmission place and they told me this was a common problem with 02 gm transmissions. If this is so common and I'm reading all these complaints why do I not see any recall. . . . Someone can get seriously hurt especially when there are no warning signs. I would hope to get some sort of monetary compensation for what I had to pay out, especially with gm knowing this is a common problem. This really concerns me with gm, they need to be on the ball for their consumers safety.

I was driving down the road and my chevy 2002 Trailblazer would not drive right and it started making a loud screeching noise and then I pulled over and I could not go in reverse. I then figures I lost the transmission. No warning. Thank god I was traveling slow at the time. I have had several major defects with this vehicle. Chevy must have a recall on this problem. Last week I had to put in a new fuel filter, a couple months ago it was front hub bearing. I had to get a new starter, brakes and rotors every year, clutch fan. No wonder chevy is having problems they sell junk. Please help us people whom can't afford another new vehicle.

Loud noise in transmission this after 30,000 miles on a totally rebuilt transmission of my 2002 chevy Trailblazer.

Went to get gas for my 2002 chevy Trailblazer and we I finished and I started my car I put it in reverse and heard a loud clunk noise and then the truck would not go into reverse. Then I put it in drive and heard a lot of grinding. I called GMC and they know the Trailblazer has a defective transmission and now that I call them with my problem they tell me that I just need to get a gm diagnostics test. Done and it just another way for them to get money out of people.

I went to put the vehicle in reverse this morning and it made a whinnying noise and wouldn't move. I thought maybe a had a toy under the car that was making that noise. So I shut the car off turned it back and still same noise when I went to back up. This is a 2002 with under 60,000 miles and has transmission trouble. Same as that other complaints I've read on here. Book says transmission service when 100,000 miles and I don't believe there should be so many problems with a vehicle with low miles and as many complaints as there has been gm should do something about it and think about a recall. I run a daycare and sometimes have 5 kids in the car explain that to the parents if they would have been hurt. It time for gm to do something about it.

I was driving my car home when the car would no longer accelerate. All it would do is make a loud whining noise when the gas pedal was pushed. With less than 70,000 miles on the car and regular maintenance, there should not be an issue with the transmission. I nearly had a wreck just trying to get off the exit ramp and to the nearest auto shop.

2002 Trailblazer with approx. 34,000 miles; purchased new. As I was driving. There was a loud, violent clunk from under the car. I was able to coast around a corner and into the right lane of another street. After waiting for over an hour for a tow truck, I was forced to drive the car (slowly) about 1/4 mile into a large parking lot. The entire time I was driving, there was a loud whining noise. When I tried to back up the car, there was no reverse gear. The tow truck driver took me and the car to a Chevrolet dealer. The service person called me a short time later to say the sun shield was broken, and repairs would be a minimum of $1800, possibly more if additional problems were found once the transmission was pulled. Even though there are only 34,000 miles on the car, he advised that it was 1-1/2 years past the time portion of the warranty. My car is still at the dealership until I can do more research into the apparently widespread problem with this car.

I am writing in a complaint on my Trailblazer transmission. My fiance decided to go shopping in st. Louis about 200 miles from home on her return home she was about 10 miles from home and she feels this instant jerk that made her go off the side of the road and then the vehicle had a constant humming noise. After she got control of vehicle and came to a stop. She had no gears or reverse. I am complaining because if she would have been in st. Louis she probably would have hit someone or killed someone when the transmission went out if she would have been in the high traffic area. I am writing this letter because I have wrote gm headquarters and the said they can't do anything about it. Well the vehicle isn't very old and our friends had the same thing happen to them but the went on vacation to florida when theirs happened the only difference theirs was under recall is what the dealer told our friends. So they got there transmission changed for free and I have had to pay for a new transmission. Gm headquarters told me for me to get my money back that you would have to recall the transmission on my certain model before I would get my money refunded to me. Please look into this matter. I know other people are having the same trouble. Thanks.

My 2002 Trailblazer with 32,716 miles on it, started to make a thud noise when slowing down and increasing speed on 12/09/05. I called chapman Chevrolet in tempe, az and made an appointment for 12/12/05 to have it looked at. On 12/11/05 while out christmas shopping my tb started to whine while in motion, then lost reverse. The service center called the afternoon of 12/12/05 to let me know that the sun shell gear had gone out in the transmission, and that the following day someone associated with the extended warrenty program would come out to verify the repairs, which all the repairs were covered, for which I only had to pay the $100. 00 deductable. However, if I had not had the extended warrenty the repairs would have cost appx. $2700. 00. Yes, my tb was past the 3year date of purchase, however I wouldn't excpect for a transmission to have problems or go out under 100,000 miles, unless the vehicle is being used commercially. I'm very disappointed with the quality of my tb, and plan to get rid of it before my extended warrenty runs out, my next vehicle will not be a gm product.

The contact heard a loud clinging noise in transmission. She could then only get the vehicle to go in first gear. The vehicle was then towed to a certified dealer. The dealer confirmed that the vehicle would need a new transmission. The manufacturer was contacted. They offered no free remedy. Updated 1/11/2006 -.

This complaint is for a 2002 chevy Trailblazer with 44000 miles. My wife pulled out to pass a slow moving car and when she pulled along side the car she was passing, the motor just reved up and made a screeming loud sort of noise. There was a car coming ahead of her and the line of cars behind her had taken up the empty spot she had just pulled out to pass from, not to mention she was scared by the loud noise coming from the car. She almost hit the on-coming car head on. My wife and two children were in the car that almost cost them their lives. After researching the problem and talking to the dealership that is repairing the problem, it seems many people are having this transmission problem. My dealership's service manager said this shoud not happen again because the new parts are hardened steel, and the gear that was put in at the factory was not. I feel that this is a widespread problem and someone is not going to be as lucky as my family ended up being. I assume that the company is not recalling this transmission part because of the cost of replaceing this defective part. I feel that the saftey of my family and any other family is well worth the cost of replacing this defective part.

Car starting making a whinnying noise. I then turned around and took to car to the dealership for repair, approximately 10 miles. Their investigation found it was the transmission , only 84,500 miles). At this point, I will have to authorize them to make the repairs , approximately $2500. After reading several message boards, it appears that this is a common problem that gm addressed on the 2003 model. Apparently, part of the transmission on the 2002 could not stand the heat. Gm needs to fix this problem and issue a recall, and behind their product).

My Trailblazer has 56,000 miles and the transmission has went out with no sign that it was going out not even a warning light inside the truck or a noise when driving or starting the vehicle.

My transmission went in January of 2005. It is now July and the same thing happened again. I had to fight with the dealership then because I only had the vehicle for 4 months and I am fighting with them again. It is the same problem. It won't shif out of 1st and it won't go in reverse and the loud noise is horrible.

The contact owns a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While driving approximately 50 mph, the contact heard a loud screeching noise underneath the vehicle. The check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer rebuilt the transmission and the sun shield. One year later, the failure recurred and the dealer made the same repair. The failure recurred for the third time a year later and the dealer stated that it was an internal transmission failure. The contact filed a formal complaint with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 45,000 updated 3/5/08 the consumer stated second failure mileage was 77,000 and the third was 167,000 miles. The consumer further stated the dealer rebuilt the transmission and sunshield 1st and 2nd time but refused the third time. The consumer stated the dealer replaced the 4 wheel drive switch because it kept blinking. Updated 03/05/08.

When accelerating the SUV seems to stall and needs a while to pick up and this causes many noises to come out of the engine. This has happened since I bought the truck in 2002. Took the truck in many times and the dealership said its normal, but my sister purchased a 2005 Trailblazer and when driving that the transmission is and sound excellent, unlike mine that souds like a semi taking off.
