2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2018

In 2018 we were having a fuel pressure issue and discovered that the icv had cracked around the gas tank. When I researched the issue I found there was a special coverage warranty for the issue and called the nearest chevy dealership. They told me that the coverage had expired a month earlier and they wouldn't honor the coverage but if we wanted the car fixed it would be over$1000. We're not the first owner of the vehicle and im sure that's why I never received the notice of the special coverage. Considering this is an issue with the fuel tank and I have children in my car, I'm not understanding why this special coverage expired in the first place. People buy used cars all the time and if the dealership didn't catch it before selling the car it's unfair to put the expense on the new owner when it's a defect caused by the manufacturer's choice in unreliable parts.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/07/2016

Error code indicates a problem with the evap system. Won't pass state emission test. Cant diagnose further because of a gas leak at the gas tank filler hose connection to the gas tank. Notified by mechanic that they replaced tanks up to 150,000 miles but my truck is 185,000.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2016

Fuel tank has tiny crack at the where the tank is welded together and gasonilne and or gasoline vapors leak out causing the check engine light to come on. Gm has issued special coverage warranty for vehicles that have up to150,000 miles or 15yrs old whichever comes first. Vehicle has 160,000 miles on it and they will not pay for repairs that should actually be a recall since it is a safety issue that is affecting millions of vehicles.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Fuel leakage from fuel tank. Very noticeable after fueling up, and when it's warm outside. Fuel smell and visible fluid dripping from the fuel tank. Vehicle isn't safe to drive, and gm is unwilling to cover the cost for the poor quality of the design of the fuel tanks. It's a known problem that gm and it's dealerships try to pass the bill for repair onto the consumer.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2015

Gas tank is leaking . I get a letter from general motor about that problem I took the truck to crystal Chevrolet the manager told he would not work on my truck.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2015

While driving my vehicle in December 2015 I received a "service engine soon" display. I took the SUV to a service center who informed me my fuel tank was cracked & needed to be replaced. They ordered a new tank but have not been able to obtain the part. While researching the situation, I found record of an NHTSA investigation (action # pe07014) conducted in 2007 for the same problem, involving the same make, model & year as my vehicle in which gm was supposed to send letters to owners & repair the fuel tanks free of charge. I never received the notification and reached out to gm customer service to find out why, file a report and expressing my grave concerns regarding the safety issues of driving a vehicle in this condition. Over the course of approximately two weeks of communication, I was advised my VIN wasn't included in the action therefore they wouldn't have notified me, it was past the mileage warranty & they won't extend it, the part is on backorder and the soonest it might be available is may, they won't provide a temporary repair or loaner vehicle, there's nothing further they can do and they're closing the file on my complaint. They were however, willing to offer a potential discount on a new vehicle. I advised them I was not in a position to purchase a vehicle and that wasn't an appropriate solution to the problem.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2015

On 12/15/15 I dropped off my 2003 chevy Trailblazer based on a bulletin that I received from chevy - gm special coverage program #14423. There was a smell of fuel while refueling. On 12/16/15 the dealership notified me that the the fuel tank was indeed defective and that it needed to be replaced. They said that they would order the part and hold the vehicle until the part came in since the vehicle was not safe to drive. Later that day the dealership stated the part would not be available until the middle of Feb. 2016 and that I would have to leave the vehicle in their lot. That was extremely upsetting news since now I was not going to have my vehicle for several months without a replacement. I have been in touch with the dealership (angela sanacore (service advisor), don ring (parts manager), john consoli (service director), and steven cruz, (parts dept. Supervisor) as well as chevy customer service (case # 8-172-332-7456). Today is March 4, 2016 and the part is still not available. I have been with out my Trailblazer for almost 3 months. The dealership and chevy customer service still have "no idea" when the part will be available. They now tell me maybe may 2016. Can you help expedite this case for me? sincerely, joseph messina.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that there was a constant strong odor of fuel in the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the fuel tank was replaced. The failure recurred and the steering wheel vibrated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but the cause of the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure was not remedied. The failure mileage was 51,476.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2015

Fuel tank inlet check valve fracture - chevy Trailblazer (2003) I received the attached notice for special coverage in November 2015 for my Trailblazer's fuel tank inlet check valve that fractures and allows for fuel to seep out of the tank. Sounds pretty dangerous to me. I took my vehicle to the local chevy dealership and sure enough, my vehicle was affected and the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The replacement fuel tank part was ordered by the dealership in November 2015 and the replacement part has still not come in, 6 months later. I've called the dealership, as well as gm/chevy corporate at least 20 times over the past 6 months and the update I received today from the dealership was the part 'may come in September 2016 or it may not'. I can't drive the vehicle during this time due to this dangerous gas leak repair. This is wildly unfair. I was patient, but this is ridiculous - a replacement part should not take a year to receive. I'm guessing the part will not arrive in September either, as I was told in January 2016 that the part would arrive in February 2016 and obviously that didn't happen (today is April 15, 2016). Finally, the service I received from gm/chevy corporate was appalling. Donna seymour - a senior advisor at gm/chevy (1-866-790-5600 ext. 5911534) provided the worst service I've ever had, anywhere. She repeated would say she would call me back and fail to do so, and do absolutely nothing to try to resolve the situation. She was awful and gm/chevy should be ashamed that they treat their customers in this manner.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet trail blazer ext 370. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle surged forward and the rpms fluctuated. The stated that the vehicle immits an abnormal odor from the fuel tank. That fuel warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the tank vacuum and tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000. Gl.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2015

I have a 2003 chevy Trailblazer and it started to have the smell of gas and a dip from the fuel tank. I was wondering if this was a fix that would be covered by general motors. I have only owned this vehicle a year and live on a very limited income. I love this vehicle and do not want to have to part with it but I need a vehicle to go to doctors and hospitals for medical issues. Please help in getting this fixed.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2015

The area around the fuel tank filler neck, where it connects to the fuel tank, is leaking. This is a common issue with 2002 - 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext's and GMC envoy xl's. It is covered under general motors special coverage program #14423 for 15 years or 150,000 miles. My Trailblazer now has 180,000 miles on it and I have been smelling gasoline fumes in the area of the filler neck for a long time, but I didn't know where it was coming from. I just found out about this program and checked the filler neck area and found the leak. Because the vehicle's mileage is outside the mileage limit of the program, gm will not cover the replacement of the fuel tank and filler assembly. I am stuck with a vehicle that may be hazardous to drive, but I have no choice.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. Whenever fuel was placed in the vehicle, a very strong fuel odor was present outside the vehicle and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2015

There is a known problem with the gas tanks on these vehicles. The vapors cause the check engine light to illuminate. In nys this car will not pass the yearly inspection. Chevrolet has an extended coverage bulletin out but it only is for vehicles that have les than 150,000 miles on it or are not older than 15 years old. Whichever come first. Prior to this, their extended coverage was for 150,000 miles or 12 years. I was excluded from the first time due to age of the vehicle when I purchased it and am now excluded from the second extended coverage due to the mileage. It is absolutely ridiculous that this is not an official recall and that chevy has loopholed numerous owners out of the coverage by not increasing the mileage requirement. The national average to drive a car according to the NHTSA is between 15,000 and 16,000 per year. According to their mileage requires a person would have had to drive this car less that 10,000 per year. This is totally unrealistic. Since this safety issue involves fuel which is highly flammable I am baffled as to why the NHTSA is not forcing an official; recall on this vehicle or forcing chevy to take the mileage restriction/age off of the extended coverage.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2014

Gas has been spilling off the gas tank metal flange where the intake hose attaches too. Chevrolet dealer does not recognize this as a recall . Apparently a fatality needs to be directly link to this problem before this issue is address.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2014

Nhtsa action number : pe07014 occurred on my vehicle around November 2014. The problem presented as p0442 cel and odor of gas after parking in garage. Gm has indicated because the special consideration allowance has expired, despite the low mileage they will do nothing. This vehicle was purchased new in August 2003. I do not understand why gm was not compelled to issue a safety recall due to the risk of gas leaking. I would appreciate assistance to get gm to minimally provide defective parts replacement, due to the know manufacturing defect in the gas tank.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2014

Communicated to gm help center 10/30/2014: my 2003 chevy trail blazer has a strong odor of gas in the rear. The vehicle has only 63,000 miles and has been well maintained. I "googled" the problem and found it to be a known issue. In part: NHTSA #: pe07014 "in June 2007, gm will expand its special policy to address fuel tank inlet check valve (icv) fractures. " will you help me remedy this problem? short story, they reviewed my description of the problem and ultimately declined any remedy. I can understand that the extended warranty has pasted, but my issue is I never received any notification as noted in NHTSA # pe07014. Had I received that notification I would certainly have followed up on the problem. This vehicle was purchased new and has very low miles for being a 2003. In view of the lack of notification, I think the vehicle should be covered as outlined as part of pe07014. Had I received notification and ignored it, then it would my problem, but I never received the original notification.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the fuel tank had fractured. Due to the fractuered fuel tank the check engine warning indicator had illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnoised that the fuel tank had fractured and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle failure mileage was 113,479. Kh.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2014

I bought a used 2003 chevy Trailblazer 6cylinder 4w with those156000. Well shortly after buying it I had my windows rolled down in a drive thru and smelt gas. I didn't think much of it until a few weeks later I noticed that I had a leak of some sort and it had the gas smell but within another week my gas mileage per tank of fuel went down drastically and I noticed I had puddles under my vehicle instead of a few drips now. The smell of gas is overwhlming it gives me headaches when I drive. I'm afraid it's going to start a fire. It constantly drips gas now when I ddrive you can seexa trail leading to me. I wish I nevercwould have bought it. It's so unsafe for my children with glad leaking out.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2014

This is my second complaint due to a second problem with the fuel system. Vehicle was taken to dealership for gas leak, which turned out to be caused by 2 different, well-known fuel system problems. Gm offered no solution to either problem because I'm 3 months outside of the extended warranty. My total bill for both leaks was $1,500. Both leaks are known safety problems, as referenced in bulletins 07099 and 07076. I was told the vehicle should not be driven because of the leaks. Gas tank replacement is not what I consider normal a maintenance item. It is a known problem and these tanks need to be recalled.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2014

Fuel leak on top of fuel tank. This is a known safety issue, and an extended service/warranty was added to fix this problem. The dealership said the vehicle should not be driven as-is. I did not receive notice of this warranty. Gm refuses to offer any more than a 10% discount, even though 3 months prior this same defect would have been fixed at no cost under the special warranty coverage. I was willing to split the cost 50/50, but no other options were deemed acceptable by gm. My vehicle is under the 120,000 mile cutoff as specified in the extended service, but 3 months out of date. Being this is a known problem and severe fire hazard, I feel gm should offer a better solution and at the minimum a reduced cost repair.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2014

About a week ago, there was a strong odor of gas inside the car. It appears also that I have been losing fuel as my tank went down much quicker than normal. I did look at the gas tank today and I see what appears to be a wet spot where fuel has leaked but do not see a hole. I have 2 young children and feel this is a hazard and defect of the vehicle. I do see that there was a bulletin on the ext model of the Trailblazer and feel this is the same issue.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2012

Service engine light illuminated due to leak in evac system according to diagnostic test. Dealership confirmed leak to be at weld where fill spout tube is attached to fuel tank. Strong gasoline fumes were present coming from the vehicle. I was informed that the fuel tank would have to be replaced at cost of $1300. 00. Internet research revealed that gm had a TSB addressing this problem (campaign #05012), but it only applied to ext models. Since this is, in reality, a fire safety issue, I believe gm should also include all models with the same problem regardless of age or mileage.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2012

The contact owns a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that while entering the vehicle, there was an overpowering gasoline fuel smell being emitted from the vehicle. The vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's destination and was later taken to a private mechanic where it was confirmed that the fuel tank failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the issue. The failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 143,000.

34 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2009

2003 Trailblazer lt. Check engine light came on and stayed on for about a 3 weeks. Brought vehicle to service at dealership, was told that I needed to replace my fuel tank because there was a leak in my fuel tank and it should be replaced. Cost would be about $1100. 00. I have also replaced my kick panel at least 6 times. Everytime I have to come out of pocket for something that is poorly made by the manufacture. I know others are experiencing this same problem. Please look into this situation for us, we need your help. I drive my vehicle everyday and only have about 63,000 miles, my vehicle is like new and I am the only driver.

35 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2009

I have a 2003 Trailblazer, where the fill spout is on the gas tank, is broke, by talking and checking on the web, there are a lot of people with the same problem, Chevrolet said,"I hate it for you that I don't live in a high corrosion area", but they have sent a special bulletin for the defect they will not fix it because of where I live. This is dangerous for alot of reasons, fuel leaks for 1 the only remedy is 1,500. 00.
