1 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2020

As you come to a complete stop or go under 5 mph, the vehicle's oil gauge will go all the way down. Once you accelerate, the oil gauge goes back to normal. When pumping gas into the vehicle, the gas pump will reset as if the gas tank is full but the gauge shows it's half empty.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/24/2017

My wife called me from work complaining of strong gas smell, after looking around and under vehicle found nothing looked again when we brought it home ,but left it running this time and gas is pouring out from rusted fittings on top of the tank.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2016

Let me begin with stating that my 2004 Trailblazer has had its service engine soon (ses) light on for well over a year due to a large evap leak (code p0455). As a result, I have taken it to two mechanics, had the purge solenoid valve replaced twice, had a plethora of smoke tests and all other tests done, with no resolve. I received a letter from gm (dated a year before) just a couple weeks ago stating that "some 2004 model year Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles may contain a fuel tank inlet check valve (icv) that could fracture. . A fractured icv could allow fuel vapors to pass through and droplets of fuel to accumulate on the side of the fuel tank". The letter goes on to describe that gm will repair the icv if the condition occurs within 15 years the vehicle was originally placed in service or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. My Trailblazer has been in service for 12 years, however I just passed 155,000 miles. Had I been notified around the time the letter was supposed to arrive, I could have easily taken my Trailblazer to the dealership and had this repair done with no qualms. However, because I have passed the 150,000 mile mark, gm refuses to cover this repair. This is extremely upsetting considering the obvious safety risk presented with "droplets of fuel accumulating on the side of the fuel tank". When speaking to a gm representative this morning, I was told to take my car to a dealership and this would be an out-of-pocket expense. Considering the safety issue, I want my Trailblazer to be repaired and covered by gm as it should be for all Trailblazer and envoy owners with this problem.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2016

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. When the vehicle was started, a strong odor of fuel was present. The vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a failure with the fuel tank. The vehicle was kept at the dealer for four weeks. The dealer stated that the part needed to repair the vehicle was not available and needed to be ordered. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,500.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2016

My vehicle is in the gm special coverage adjustment program number 07099 and is under the gm spl coverage pgm update 14423. I was notified that the icv could fracture and create an 'engine service soon' light. That light was activated in February. I took it in, it's the icv. They said they'd replace the fuel tank as soon as they could get parts. They still don't have the replacement -- and say it could be may or June. Meanwhile the 'check engine' light could be on for icv -- or it could be another problem. With dripping fuel out in the open, it's a safety hazard -can't be used on a trip and can't be sold/traded as it's defective.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2015

On November 19, 2015, I received a letter from Chevrolet, p. O. Box 909989, milwaukee, WI 53209-9989, dated November 2015, notifying me, "this letter is intended to make you aware that some 2004 model year Chevrolet Trailblazer vehicles may contain a fuel tank inlet check valve (icv) that could fracture. " I immediately called the 1-800-222-1020 phone number included in the letter and the gentlemen I spoke with called my nearest Chevrolet dealer, nimnicht Chevrolet, jacksonville, florida, and asked them to call me to set up an appointment to have the situation investigated. They did not call me and the following day, the representative from Chevrolet called back to confirm that I had an appointment with nimnicht and I informed him they had not called. He immediately called them back and got an appointment set up for me, which was not until the following Wednesday, November 26, at 8:00 a. M. I took my vehicle in, which has all of the symptoms listed, I. E. Gasoline smell, ses light on solid for a while, then begins blinking, and will go back to solid, terrible gas mileage and when sitting still with engine running, engine acts as if it wants to shut off. Within ten minutes of my arriving at the dealership, I was informed there was nothing they could do since my mileage was over 150,000. The date I received the letter, the mileage was 151,872 and by the time I got an appointment, it was 152,000 plus. After letting me sit in their waiting room, and my asking them to please call Chevrolet to see if some type of exception could be made, the lady came back and offered me a "real deal" of $903. 00 to repair it. She told me they were not allowed to call Chevrolet on a customer's behalf. My complaint is that, if the letter were mailed to me on November 1, the vehicle would have been less than 150,000 miles. I feel they should have to repair it. It is dangerous to drive.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2015

Gm issued special coverage program 14423 to repair leaking gas tank and there are no pairs available. Letter was issued in Nov 2015, received Dec 2015, went to love Chevrolet dealership Jan 2016 parts not available until July 2016. This is unsafe and unacceptable.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2015

I own a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext and just like the thousands of others mine has a defective gas tank filler on the top of the tank. It's a known bad part feom the factory. Mine has had a hole for a while now. It can literally leak over 10 gallons of gas a day if you fill the tank to full. Even if you don't the smell of gas in and around the vehicle is terrible. My check engine light is on because of it. It runs like crap because of it. What's more dangerous than spilling gas everywhere you go!? some people have had chevy pay for the repairs on there 2004 Trailblazer. Look it shouldn't matter what your VIN# is or how many miles at this point (I just hit 150,000) the gas tanks on these vehicles are faulty, they're dangerous, they're exspensive. I surely dont have $800-$1500 laying around to fix a part that is known and proven to be bad. We all know tbey are bad, Chevrolet knows it, the NHTSA knows it. The kicker is you cant even find used gas tanks for these things to save money. Every single one is junk or already replaced one that was junk. It is completely crazy that the owners of these vehicles where never probably taken care of in regards to this issue with the gas tanks.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2015

My fuel tank has a hole in it. I have filed a previous complaint with NHTSA and also with gm. An NHTSA worker helped me a lot and when I called gm and chevy back I was told several times someone would get back in touch with me. I have tried to get it fixed but no one is able to help. I have tried many places for used fuel tanks but everyone says that the envoys and Trailblazers that they have all have the same exact issue. I cannot get any help from gm or chevy.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

My vehicle is sending gas fumes in thru the vent system. I have read online that this has happened to several 2004 Trailblazers. The outcome is faulty fuel tank modular resouvour assembly or hole in tank. As of now there is no recall. I will be bringing the vehicle into my dealership soon to get the problem fixed however, I feel if this has happened to several other vehicles it should be part of a national recall. I searched online under chevy Trailblazer 2004 fuel smell thru vent. I hope that something will be addressed on this before someone gets killed either by fumes or possible explosion. The affected parts is not correct however I had to select something to get this to process.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer 360. The contact stated that there was a strong smell of fuel fumes on the ouside and inside the vehicle that was progressing over a period of time. The contact also indicated that there was a presence of a fuel leak failure as well. The vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer who diagnosed that the fuel tank modulator had an internal failure and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000. Dyd.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2014

Starting about a few weeks ago my 2004 chevy Trailblazer ext has reeked of unspent gasoline, and this smell consumes the entire interior and exterior of the vehicle. The vehicle also has small leak below reservoir which appears to be leaking unspent fuel. Chevy offered a "special coverage" to correct this issue (corrosion on top of fuel tank reservoir), however it only covers vehicles under 10 years of age and under 120k miles. My vehicle is under that mileage, however this repair will not be covered due to age of vehicle (mine was assembled in March). This issue is a major safety concern, as any small spark could cause this vehicle to ignite. I cannot continue to drive my vehicle, and feel this needs to be rectified before it causes catastrophic loss (either building or personal).

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2014

Fuel tank crack the check engine light came on with a vapor leak error and I smelled a slight gas vapor. I took it to my mechanic and he could not identify the source of the vapor leak. After a couple of months, the gas smell became more noticeable and I took it back to my mechanic. A smoke test revealed that the fuel tank is cracked where the fuel tank filler hose is connected to the tank. Although other chevys are covered under recall for this problem, the 2004 Trailblazer is not. The tank alone is $790 to replace not including labor of about $150 at my mechanic. I have read many other complaints about this issue for this car and believe that there should be a recall. John frost murlin atlanta, georgia.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2014

In 2014 I noticed a strong odor of gasoline on a regular basis coming from my 2004 chevy Trailblazer. I had my local garage look at it and was told the fuel tank assembly was compromised and needed to be replaced. Mileage at the time of repair was 124,000 and cost was almost $800 parts & labor. Looking online I noticed many other owners of the same make/model dealing with this issue.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2014

While driving fuel level gauge jumps up and down from empty to full. It stays at what ever level it wants to. You cannot be certain how much fuel is in gas tank at any certain time!.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2013

I smelled gas and took it to my location tire shop. They found the filler to the gas tank has a crack. They said that the gas tank would have to replaced. I did a internet search on this problem and many others have had the same problem.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

Check engine light came on,when it was checked it showed there was a large e-vap leak. When pressure test was done on system fuel started coming out of hose going into top of fuel tank. Was told there was a major recall on this part. However because I exceeded the mileage by 20,000 mi gm will not cover damage. This is a major safety problem and I was never notified of this problem like I think gm should have. I believe gm should re-imburse any out of pocket funds owner spends to fix problem and make vehicle safe again.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2013

Failed emissions testing due to evap error code. My 2004 chevy Trailblazer was taken to the mechanic who performed a smoke test and identified a small leak at the fuel tank inlet. He was aware of the issue and printed out a 'special coverage adjustment - fuel tank inlet check valve fracture # xxxxx - (08/24/2007) ' and advised me to take it to the dealer. He also advised me that my VIN was not on the list but the problem is the same as identified by others on multiple other forums on the internet and the printout. Dealer refused to do the warranty work citing the fact my VIN was not on the list. I contacted gm and am escalating the issue. The smell of gasoline is more pervasive than ever before!.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2013

I began smelling gas from the vehicle and noted that there is gas dripping from around the gas tank. I contacted my mechanic and was told that this is the third Trailblazer he has seen in 2 weeks with the same problem. Chevrolet advises that there was a fix which was good only until 120,000 miles. How am I supposed to know to take it and have it fixed before 120,000 miles if I am not notified by gm? this obviously is a serious safety issue involving the Trailblazer which gm is aware of but has thus far resisted recalling. Thanks justin baker 443-542-3182 jbaker5012@gmail. Com.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

Fuel tank is leaking fuel from top of tank. Strong smell of gas outside and inside vehicle. Drips down side of tank when driving. Repair is over $1000 dollars. Internet is full of same complaints. Why is there no action recalling this public hazard? vehicle is ext extended version. Called gm and they say they have no knowledge of problem. Despite an earlier notice. . This agency needs to be more accountable. This is what happens when the government owns the business they are to regulate. Shame. Read your complaints and take action.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2013

Due to a service engine soon warning light and smelling gas inside my vehicle, I took my vehicle to my local mechanic. He stated there was a crack in the neck of my fuel tank. The tank needs to be replaced. He also stated that this is a common problem with Trailblazers. I looked up any recalls. Found special coverage adjustment - fuel tank inlet check valve fracture#07099a. I called a local dealer who confirmed that was right. However my VIN # does not fall under VIN #'s listed. The dealer called a local gm rep. And I was offered 40% covered by gm meaning I would have to cover the other 60%. I do not understand why only some VIN#'s are in this and not all of them. It seems that this a problem that is very common in these Trailblazers. I do not feel safe driving my family of 5 around in this Trailblazer with a fracture fuel tank inlet check valve and the strong smell of gas in the truck and risk of fire from gas leaking out. This should be a recall item so that those of us that have Trailblazers not with in the VIN #'s covered can get this fixed and be safe. Chevrolet/gm should step up and make this a recall this is a huge safety issue.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2013

Lights started flashing, gas gauge went to empty, car died. Restarted drove 1/4 mile died. Stereo system completely failed (whole unit). Keeps popping circuits changed out still doing. Cannot shut off heat due to banging sound. Car speeds up and down on own. Cannot read gas gauge correctly, not sure how full tank is.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2013

I feel that I'm being treated unfairly, because of a system created by gm,to determine which model Trailblazer vehicles are are selected for recall repair with safety related problems. Even if the problem is the same, in my case. A faulty fuel tank, that leaks fuel. Today I had my tank tested by a chevy dealer, who told me I had a cracked tank, where the fuel tank filler-neck connects to the tank. He said it was not covered under the recall, because my model was not a Trailblazer ext. My model is Trailblazer LS. But it has the same unsafe leak, from the same location, as the ext model. My mileage, and year fit the recall, and so does the problem. So! why not the fix? the dealer told me it would cost me $1700 to repair. Why do I have to pay for the same unsafe problem, that others are not? I can show you photos of 3 different Trailblazer models with the same problem. And you could not pick out which one was mine. So why are they only fixing one model. . Also I'm starting to get a check engine light popping on and off. This could possibly be connected to the fuel tank leak. So now, when I go to emissions testing I'm going to fail. Making me responsible to pay for repairs, that are clearly a defective fuel delivery system.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2013

Several months the smell of gasoline was very strong in the interior of my SUV. I drove it about five miles from my home with a full tank, as I drove it the smell became much strong, when I reached my destination a person pointed out to me that gasoline was pouring from the bottom of my truck likea water hose. I immediately returned home to park the vehicle. As I tried to recall what may have occurred, I remembered that two days prior to the incident I got an oil change; I assumed that maybe they had done something to aggrevate an already existing problem. After they reviewed their work, I was told it was a manufactures problem. I later took the vehicle to wolf Chevrolet (now defunct dealer). A diagnostic was done and it was determined that the gas tank must be replaced with a cost of $1192. And the SUV is considered "too dangerous to drive". I then went to another automotive establishment and was given the same diagnosis. After taking in consideration both estimates and my need for transportation, I contacted gm and spoke with a customer service representative who informed me that I needed to take the vehicle to a certified gm dealer. I took the vehicle to lou bachrodt in cherry valley, illinois and was given the same diagnosis. Afteri relayed the iinformation to the gm rep, he said that due to the age of the vehicle and the mileage, gm would not be able to offer me any compensation. He suggested I phone lou bachrodt and see if they could assist me in the cost, the service technician gave me the same statement; age and mileage. I am writing because from all indications this problem is not only prevalent in my SUV but after doing research, several 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer owners have experienced similar problems. It is my belief that Chevrolet gm should take ownership for all or some of this problem.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Filler neck to gas tank leaking. . . . Dangerous !! causes the check engine light to stay on. . . .

27 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2012

The contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext. The contact stated he began to smell fuel inside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,000. The VIN was unavailable.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2012

I have a fuel tank leak on my 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer lt, at 112500 miles. After reading reading similar stories online, I have discovered that there was a known issue and a "service bulletin" was put out, but no formal recall. There were only certain VIN numbers that were eligible, but the same parts were used regardless of the VIN. My local chevy dealer advised that since the vehicle is no longer under warranty, the cost for repair would be $1000-1200. I called Chevrolet customer service, who advised about the bulletin and the fact that I was not eligible. There has to be something that can be done, and it is obvious that defective components were used in the assembly of these vehicles. Chevrolet is willing to step up and help some owners of these vehicles, but not all. Something needs to be done as it relates to this.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2012

My 2004 Trailblazer suddenly omits a terrible gasoline smell when I start the engine and when I shut the engine off. I had a mechanic look at the vehicle and was told that there is a leak at the gas tank (by a seal) which can only be fixed by replacing the entire gas tank for approx $ 800-$900 for the tank only, not inc labor. I have purchased my vehicle new in 2004 and it was never in an accident, I am the only driver. I am very concerned about the safety factor, is this a fire hazard? being on a fixed income I am unable to shell out money for a new gas tank at this time. Was there a recall concerning this matter?.

30 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2012

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. While parked with the engine turned off, the contact smelled an extremely strong odor of fuel inside and outside of the vehicle. The failure occurred immediately after the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an independent auto mechanic for diagnosis. The mechanic noticed fuel continuously leaking from the fuel tank. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000. Kmj.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2012

Fuel leaks and spills out of the tank and can be smelled in the truck for several days.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2011

I was driving down the road when I ran out of gas. It still showed over 100 miles left on the gauge. That was about 3 months after I purchased the vehicle. About two months later, I had the same problem. I started keeping the gas on 3/4 of a tank at all times to make sure there was fuel in it. The problem kept happening. Today, it was on 200+ miles and I ran out. This is ridiculous! do I really have to keep track of how many miles I put on it so I know when I need to refill?.

33 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2011

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that while in park, the contact noticed strong fuel fumes emitting from the outside of the vehicle. Upon inspection, the contact noticed that there was fuel leaking from the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Oo.

34 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2011

Ever since 50k on my Trailblazer, the fuel gauge was been inaccurate. I will look at the guage and it will be at 1/2 of a tank and just 20 miles later its at 1/4. Then it might go back up to 1/2. It would go away sometimes and come back but now it is back for sure, and will not go away. I tried another cluster in my Trailblazer just to make sure it was not the gauge its self. It must be the fuel gauge senser in the tank its self. It is getting to be a problem. I have run out of gas twice now. Once while on hill, in a very extremely hilly area in ohio. The second time was on the freeway. Both times were dangerous as I was on the middle lane of the free way when it happened and, at the bottom of a blind hill the second time.

35 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2010

My 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer developed a leaking fuel tank and I keep getting "service engine" lights. I understand there have been many complaints however gm has not called for a recall. This is a serious safety hazard and appears to be a common problem. Reference complaint #05012.
