6 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2010

I just purchased a 2005 chevy trail blazer for my youngest daughter and safety was the reason for an SUV. Two monthes after my purchase the gas gage no longer works, almost always on e and some times jumps around. I cant afford to take chances with her life with an accedent or run out of gas in the wrong place. I asked a dealer and they told me they fix this problem on every trail blazer. They also told me I have to replace the fuel pump as well and this should be a recall issue. The total bill is around $700 for something that shouldnt happen on every Trailblazer, dont you agree? I have done my homework and I see this happens to everyones Trailblazer and could make us all look @ other autos in the future. Im very happy with chevy cars, trucks and SUV's lets keep our relationship a positive one ok? $700 will not brake my wallet just my trust.

Report date : October 18, 2010 at 09:14 am search type : vehicle year : 2005 make : Chevrolet model : Trailblazer results : 1 | all records displayed NHTSA action number: n/a NHTSA recall campaign number: dp10001 n/a make: Chevrolet model: Trailblazer manufacturer : general motors corp. Year : 2005 component : fuel system, gasoline:delivery:fuel pump I bought my 2005 Trailblazer a little over a year ago. The gas gauge does not work. It would go all the way to full and then after a couple of miles it would go to "empty. " the fuel light comes on and the car will make a loud beep to let you know you are out of fuel. The beep really throws off your concentration to the road and is very distracting. It makes you tap the brakes which could definitely lead to an accident or even running out of gas. This is a serious issue and needs to be fixed.

11 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2009

I have a 2005 chevy Trailblazer. I purchased said vehicle at the end of July-beginning of August 2007. I have thoroughly enjoyed the experience of owning a chevy due to not having any issues. . . Well that was until December 2009. I began noticing that my gas gauge was malfunctioning. I would fill up the tank but it would read empty, and that problem has been ongoing since my discovery. I currently have to read my mileage to know when to put gas in my tank. Additionally, I have ran out of gas twice and both times putting myself in harms way and damaging my fuel pump (which is costly). Just two days ago I ran out of gas on a busy street, I didn't panic, but I was a bit nervous. I hit the hazards, and pulled up my emergency break (because breaks and steering wield froze up). The vehicle behind me slammed on breaks just missing me by inches. This is no way to live and drive. I'm scared to go out of town or take back roads because I may give out of gas in an area where there is no cell phone tower or low to no signals. This has put me in a very bad space.

12 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2009

I have a 2005 chevy Trailblazer. About a year ago the gas gauge quit working. My understanding was that it would cost almost as much to replace the sensor as it would to replace the fuel pump. I continued driving the car using the trip mileage. I have run out of gas several times. The last couple of times I realized there was no way I could be out of gas yet. What is now happening is I cannot get more than a couple of gallons of gas in my car at any time. The mechanic says it is because the sensor is stuck and thinks it is fuller than it is. So now I cannot drive more than 20 miles or so before stopping for gas again. Please do something about this!!!!!.

14 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2009

This seems to be a pervasive problem with recent models of chevy Trailblazers; the fuel gauge goes up and down erratically when the vehicle is either low on fuel or is recently filled up. Some sources indicate that the problem is with a faulty fuel pump sensor, which requires the gas tank to be removed and a sending unit sensor replaced. Faulty equipment should be recalled, and not left for the chance that the problem will happen while still under warranty.

15 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2009

I am having problems with false readings with my fuel gauge. Like everyone else, I fill up my tank and the gas gauge reads empty, but after about 20 minutes it would read full. Now it reads full for 20 minutes and then starts to go down. I was told that is was a possible short in the wiring around the fuel pump. Great, a good way to start a fire!!. . I am a gm employee of 14 yrs and think this problem should be fixed and fixed now. Way too many people are having problems with this issue. . . . .

21 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2004

23sep10 1715 pdt my wife was driving to work on a highway when low fuel light went on. She had literally just filled the vehicle with gasoline. I had her exit off highway to sidestreet and call for a tow. I told her not to continue driving because it could be the fuel pump. I then looked online to find any reports of this. I found it to be the second most reported problem with the vehicle. We had just purchased this vehicle used a few days before. So we have no history with the vehicle. This occurred once. I did notice the light on once the morning of the same day. I plan to have it towed to and repaired at a trusted local mechanic. Online the estimated cost for repair is $550.
