171 problems related to tank assembly have been reported for the 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The fuel gauge reads empty when there is plenty of gas in the tank. It sometimes read full when there is little gas left.
2005 Trailblazer ext, 55500 miles, bought new. In January 2013 I filled up my gas tank. Within one block of leaving the gas station the fuel gauge went to “0” (empty). Thereafter, the gauge reads intermittently between what seems to be normal & empty. The error code p0463 (obd ii, obd2) indicates a fuel sending unit failure. This leaves me with a dangerous vehicle. Why? scenario: your traveling 60 mph, run out of fuel & now have a disabled vehicle on a highway with other travelers whizzing by. The repair for the fuel sending unit is said to be $600 to over $1000. By the way, I had a '97 s10 blazer that had the same problem. I understand there are currently almost one million complaints registered for the same thing on gm vehicles.
I filled up my gas tank completely and the gas gauge registered "empty. " the truck has also stalled a few times in both drive and reverse. This is extremely dangerous as I was backing into traffic when it stalled. I had to quickly re-start it to avoid being hit by oncoming traffic. Since my fuel gage sensor broke I have been watching the needle go from "full" to "empty" all within a minute. I've done some research on this matter and have found that Chevrolet used a cheaper fuel sensor manufacturer (delco) in order to save money. The customer should not be responsible for any of the cost to repair the fuel sensor. Please advise Chevrolet to recall this faulty part at their expense. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the fuel gauge indicated a level of empty although the fuel tank was full. The low fuel warning light was also illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the fuel tank sending unit was fractured and would have to be replaced. There was an investigation under NHTSA action number: dp10001 (fuel tank fuel system, other:storage:fuel gauge system) that could possibly have been related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 175,000.
After filling my gas tank and exiting gas station. I noticed that my fuel gauge was showing half full, even though I just put in 20 gallons of gas in the tank. As I drove further down the rode I noticed the gauge would go back and forth from empty to full stopping at different points. At some points would stay at empty.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the fuel gauge would erroneously provide an empty reading when the fuel tank was filled to capacity. The contact stated that the check engine light would sporadically illuminate when the failure occurred as well as the vehicle exhibiting sporadic stalling. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 72,000 and the current mileage was 73,000.
Gas gauge fails. After completely filling gas tank, gauge still shows below empty and light stays on. This has been going on for several months. I have run out of gas twice - once at a busy intersection and was fortunate to coast thru the intersection and make it to the side. I now track my gas usage via mileage but this is not accurate and causes me to have to stop and put gas in every other day for fear of breaking down again with my four year old son in the car. I have a couple of friends that also own 2005 Trailblazers and they are also having the same problem. I have found numerous online forums discussing this an I am surprised Chevrolet has not issued a recall. If they have, I have never been notified. This is a serious issue and Chevrolet should be responsible and resolve this before someone is seriously hurt because of this problem.
Gas gauge is reading wrong. Once I fill up the tank with gas, it's reading empty and the gas light is on. It fluctuates all over the place while driving it.
The gas gauge no longer works. I filled my SUV up with gas, the gauge reads empty. While driving the gauge will bounce from 1/2 tank to full to empty. I never really know how much gas I have or when I will run out. Looking on the internet I see that this has been a very common issue for a bunch of people.
The speedometer in my vehicle suddenly shows over 120 mph no matter what speed I am travelling. I have found this to be a common complaint. The fuel gauge is also very inaccurate never showing more than 1/4 tank of fuel regardless of how much I put in.
Gas guage went to empty while travelling down a steeper hill. Low fuel light came on as well, even though the guage had been reading approx. 1/4 tank remaining. Stopped and filled the tank but guage did not move from empty and fuel light stayed on even with a full tank of gas. No longer able to guage fuel levels and have to track it using trip mileage.
Fuel gauge remains at empty even with a full tank. Tt.
The fuel gauge registers empty when the tank has just been filled. It never recovers to an accurate reading and has never since this incident initially occured.
My gas gauge suddenly does not work properly. Even if I know the tank is full when I first start the engine the fuel light goes on and give the audible signal that it's low on fuel. As I begin to drive the gauge will eventually move a little bit so the light will go off. I have a full tank today and after driving only 13 miles it registers less that half a tank. I got a letter from gm acknowledging that this problem persists but will only offer to pay for half of the repair??? what? didn't we just bail them out? "too big to fail"??? well use some of the money we already gave to gm to fix the problem!!.
We ran out of gas on the highway 20 miles from a gas station with kids in the car. The gas gauge in our 05 chevy Trailblazer was wrong and indicated we had gas in the tank.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the vehicle fuel gauge failed and the fuel gauge was reading as empty when the fuel tank was filled to capacity. The manufacturer denied assistance with the repair. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 114,000 and the current mileage was 115,000. Updated 11/03/11.
Two days after filling tank, I started having problems with the gas guage. I had driven about 250 miles, but the guage still read 3/4 full. My wife then took the truck to work that afternoon, thinking there was 3/4 tank of fuel left she did not fill up for the 80 mile round trip. Half way home at 3:00 am she runs out of gas in the worst section of phoenix you can imagine. As she works in an inner city hospital, she drives through this section of the city daily and we have always made sure she has a reiable vehicle for the trip. Fortunately a police officer stopped and stayed with her until aaa showed up. I would hate to think what would happen to a woman alone in a drug infested area of the city while her vehicle breaks down for a faulty fuel guage.
When filling up tank with gas, fuel gauge indicates empty and low fuel light appears. Blower fan switch works intermittently,.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext. The contact stated that the fuel gauge would not display an accurate reading while driving at various speeds. The vehicle stalled once due to the fuel tank being empty when the fuel gauge did not indicate such in its reading. The vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 123,400.
I have a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer with a faulty fuel gauge. A year or two ago the fuel gauge started working intermittently. Sometimes it would show an accurate reading and other times it would not. Now the fuel gauge just shows empty 100% of the time, no matter how much fuel is in the tank. Due to this issue, I have ran out of fuel and stalled several times. As you can imagine, this is a major safety concern. When the vehicle stalls power steering and braking are lost and it can be difficult to maneuver a large vehicle like this without those systems. I took the vehicle to the dealer and they are stating that the problem is a bad fuel sending unit and the cost to repair is over $600. Researching the issue online I have found that this seems to be a widespread issue. This is unacceptable and a recall needs to be ordered.
I've had my 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer a little over a year no problems untell now. About a month now fuel sensor light continues to go off . It doesn't matter if it's a full tank, have full or empty. The light goes on all the time. Always worried about running out of gas. Souldn't have to go to the gas station every other day just to feel safe.
When tank is full, fuel gauge reads as empty and low fuel light comes on. A little while later, the gauge will move up and then back down and light will come back on. Not sure how much gas is in tank based on the fuel gauge.
My 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer ext fuel gauge just stayed on empty eventhough I always filled up the tank. I went on research forums if there's any recall for this model since I've seen a number of complaints. I am still paying for the truck monthly and cannot pay for an expensive repairs.
My 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer gas gauge doesn't work properly. I never know how much fuel I have in my tank because the the gauge goes up and down like crazy. Sometimes when I know I have less than half a tank of gas due to the miles I've driven it says that it's full. Other times right after a fill up it will say that it's empty.
1) fuel gauge indicator shows an empty reading despite just being filled. After driving for 40-50 miles gauge will show about a quarter of a tank for a short time and then go back to empty. When problem first started the gauge was all over the dial. 2) speedometer erratically will show a speed at a greater speed than actually traveling. Recently showed going 110mph despite traveling along with traffic flow of approximately 65 mph on major interstate highway.
On mon. June 20, 2011 I stopped to get gas with the gas gage registering between 1/4 and empty w/gas light on. After filling the gas tank the gage continued to register the same w/gas light on. The following day the gas gage started inching up to the full mark and remained there and started registering as gas usage decreased. Not sure if was accurate. Upon fueling again, the same process started all over again. The gage will periodically fluctuate up and down.
2005 Trailblazer fuel gauge not properly working. When SUV is filled with gasoline it will indicate the tank is empty. Then after filling it will jump from half to empty not properly reading has cause me to run out of gas sevral times. Almost caused an accident do to a complete stall on the interstate. Really concerned and feel this should be addressed by gm before someone is seriously injured or possible killed.
2005 chevy Trailblazer. Faulty gas gauge. Was fine today 6/14,2011 until I filled up. Gauge went from full after filling to showing empty and has not rest itself. Noticed in past that it seemed to be stuck at 1/4 tank but took almost 20 gallons to fill. Gauge reset after a few miles and seemed to be fine until today. And now today, gas gauge reads empty on a full tank.
This complaint is concerning a defective fuel level sensor. On or near the incident date, the vehicle's fuel tank was filled to the top. This was the first time the tank was completely filled in several months (due to high gas prices). Upon driving away from the pump, the dash fuel gauge read 'empty'. Prior to topping off the tank, the gauge was reading approximately 1/3 full. The gauge continued to read 'empty' until the level was down to approximately 7/8 full. After that, the gauge varied between less than 1/8 full to actual level and sometimes would read 'empty' briefly. After the fuel was down to less than 3/4 full, the gauge appeared to read normal until filled again. This pattern basically has continued to get worse. Now, when the tank is topped off, it still reads 'empty' but doesn't read 'normal' until down to about 1/4 tank. I have resorted to logging mileage and date when topping off the tank and refilling before the tank should be empty based on mileage.
My gas gauge suddenly began malfunctioning after filling the tank. The gauge went down to empty, setting off the visual and audible indicators for an empty tank. After driving for awhile, the gauge began to slowly rise. This now happens every time I fill the tank, but now the gauge never goes up to the full point, usually staying around half of a tank until it starts to decline again. I can no longer trust the gauge. I have heard that this is becoming a common problem on some of the chevy models, particularly the Trailblazer.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated the fuel gauge displayed the incorrect reading and the fuel light indicator displayed that the fuel was low when the fuel tank was full. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 101,000 and the current mileage was 101,200.
2005 Trailblazer gas gauge is broken, fulls up and then it will light up like it is empty, only reads the gas up to 1/4 of a tank.
I bought this vehicle in Dec 2010 for my birthday, then started smelling gas so took it back to dealer and they replaced the floater in gas tank and it was fine for awhile, then one day I went and filled up the tank, got in and started it up and it said empty and had the light on (when I knew it was full), since then I have had to rely on the miles to know if I still have gas, which is hard to do if you don't fill it up all the time. I am afraid of having my grandsons with me one day and running out of gas because it don't work. . Please recall this it is very dangerous to not know if you have enough gas when you have to go somewhere. This should not have happened since it was just fixed a few months ago. Will this be an ongoing problem? I grew up with chevy's my dad use to say we were chevy country and my uncle's vehicles were found on the road dead (Ford) I use to believe that chevy was best vehicle made, but this is changing my mind.
Fuel sensor is damaged. Regardless if tank is full or 1/2 full. The fuel gauge always reads empty, with the light on. After a long period of driving, fuel gauge may go up to 1/4 tank but will go back to empty after car is turned off and restarted. Only way to be safe and aware of fuel level, is to fill up the vehicle with gas and restart the mileage.
The contact owns a 2005 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The contact stated that the fuel gauge malfunctioned after adding fuel to his tank the gauge would read empty and through out the week it would fluctuate between empty to full and a half of a tank. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer nor had it been repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and informed him that there were no recalls. The failure mileage was approximately 52,500.
